The Watchful introduces Rick and his hunter buddies Scott, Ron, and Jarren. They are camping the night at Shadow Pines Forest when a time pulse hits locking them into a repeating time sequence. Rick, at the time of the pulse, is separated from the group and is forced to leave them behind. The hunters become the hunted as a massive beasts tracks them down. Meanwhile, Rick is forced to hide inside an abandoned shed.

"Invasion Event #2: The Watchful" is the second part of 5 parts to "Darkness and Daemons". In this segment we meet Rick, a large athletically-inclined, trained military sniper who now works construction. Apparently there isn't much call for snipers in the civilian world, although Rick brags he could shoot a pimple off your ass at 100 yards. Still, not much call for that kind of work.
Rick has gone up to Shadow Pines forest with a few of his buddies from work, including his foreman. They plan to do some recreational shooting. No hunting, just killing beer cans and that sort of thing. Rick wants to show off some of his acquired sniper skills. He is standing with rifle in hand, puffing away at his cigar, when a brilliant violet light flashes then fades away.
Rick is temporarily paralyzed by the light. He drops his rifle, his cigar falls to the ground, and he collapses to his knees. His neck veins begin to swell, and he has trouble breathing. His asthma is acting up again. He hears car tires squealing away, and the sound triggers a memory. He jumps to his feet, grabs up his rifle, and takes off running. He isn't sure why, he just knows he needs to get away from there, and fast.
Coming to a clearing, he spies an old abandoned shack. A strange, dense black fog-like substance seems to be sentiently seeking him. A floating eyeball, with web-like fingers depending from it, is also seeking him. He makes a dash for the cabin, just as the wind slams the door shut behind him.
Meanwhile, back at the campsite, his three buddies are sitting around the campfire when a van suddenly crashes over the edge of the ravine and plows to a stop near their camp. Strange noises, "large" noises seem to be coming from the van. The sides suddenly billow out, and a large creature charges through the back doors into the forest. The men run. Well, two of them do. The third one trips, and the creature pounces on him and consumes him on the spot.
Back at the shack, Rick is cowering in the corner. The door slowly creaks open. The flying eyeball cautiously enters the shack, carefully investigating everything before proceeding further. A sudden gunshot outside prompts the eye to hide in the rafters. Outside Rick's two remaining buddies are running frantically toward the cabin, but only one makes it. The creature has caught up with the other.
Bad things continue to happen, while Rick starts to remember bits and pieces. Then, once again, a bright flash of violet light pulses and Rick finds himself back where he started, as his cigar falls from his mouth. But this time... this time he remembers. This time he's not going to die. Or is he?
It's time to move along and meet Kawe in "Invasion Event #3: The Gate".
