I first read this book about five years ago and decided it was about time that I revisited it. It is a short book and is admittedly easy to read, but the good stuff ends here.
As a work of politics it fails to truly engage with many of the critiques of the Trotskyist position, either writing them off with throwaway comments or ignoring them completely. The anarchist position for example is not even responded to in discussions on the taking of state power.
Combine this with several bizarre claims - including the idea that racism is the result of capitalism and that the black power movement was often dominated by an adherence to "black capitalism" and you have a book that is rather typical of the SWP.
If you want a manifesto then by all means have a read, but for an introduction to Marxist theory and reasons for revolution there are many better places to start
