After I read Linda McCarriston's stunning (and flawless) Eva-Mary, I knew I would read more by this author.
I was touched by this earlier offering. While the section 'Mammals' is probably the book's strongest, McCarriston's attention to the detail around her (she has a great eye for describing texture and mood) is present throughout. You can see the harbingers of the theme to come in future works (abuse.) I really loved the pieces about farm animals. Reminds me of the incisive eye of another favorite poet, Sophie Cabot Black.
