Gather Sticks Along the Way

Rate this book
When God commanded Abraham to carry Isaac up the mountain, the boy was told by his father to gather sticks to build an altar. With each piece he gathered he unknowingly contributed to his own sacrifice. But before the blade would fall an angel of God would appear. The entire parable hinged on Abraham's faith in God's plan and his determination to carry it out with his own hands.

Charles is an average man. He has a loving family and is solid in his own beliefs. But his faith is soon tested with the loss of his son and Charles becomes a man driven by the need for answers. He needs to know what happened to his child and is prepared to do anything to find out. As simple actions by multiple individuals begin to unfold, a tragedy is formed and Charles is caught in the middle. Throughout it all he knows he is not alone. He knows God is with him. As Charles begins to see signs of what he believes to be the truth behind his son's disappearance, he's unsure if these come from God or if they are just coincidences. Is it his vengeance that propels him or is he just doing God's plan? His faith will either see him through this catastrophe or cause him to lose all he has left.

Gather Sticks Along the Way is a short story (96 pages on my Nook) that packs a punch. This story follows Charles, a local pastor, his wife Ann, and their child Chuck. A average happy little family. When Chuck goes missing one day, Charles and Ann's life is turned upside down. With no leads, Charles focus' on the one person he is sure has something to do with little Chuck's disappearance. How far will Charles go to exact his revenge and does he have the right person? What about Charles' faith as a man of God?

When your child has been abducted, how far would you go to find out information? Gather Sticks Along the Way had a great ending. I was surprisingly happy with this read. There are a few grammatical errors throughout and I felt some places were overly described but overall it really was a quick, good read. Mr. Mills did a wonderful job bringing Charles, with all of his grief and anguish, to life. Well done for a new writer!

My review:
This book is about a family: Charles(who is a pastor), Ann(his wife), and Chuck(their son) who go through a tragedy when their 5 year old son disappears while walking home from a neighbor friend's house. Throughout the book the family deals with life while their son is still missing with no leads and then Charles learns of a registered sex offender who recently moved into the neighborhood and forged his signature. This causes Charles to put a plot together and into play to get answers and revenge for his son. But then his son is found and Charles has already changed his life forever! HUGE cliffhanger ending that leaves you wanting MORE!!!! Great Book and a Great Story line!!! Very anxious to read the next book!!!!
