Yo, listen up. I don't care if you look down on someone or don't particularly like them, but you do not call them a dog.
Basically, this whole manga is about this girl who lies to her friend about having a boyfriend, takes a picture of some random guy, and shows it to them for proof, but the friends immediately recognize the guy since he is from their school and confronts him. He goes along with the ruse, only to blackmail the girl into becoming his slave in exchange for acting as her boyfriend.
In order to 'fit in', this girl makes up a boyfriend to look cool. That is so wrong on so many levels. One, 'fitting in' isn't all that matters, but seeing the current trash being fed to young girls by media that being popular and 'in' is all that matters. And second, having a boyfriend isn't a party. Unless you really like the guy, it can be a chore.
This guy is so unlikable. Because of him, I didn't make it past the second volume. Calling someone a dog is not only derogatory, but also highly insulting. Looking down at someone just because they exist the way they are is just small thinking and pointless. What an ass.
Except for the art, if this had any other good points, I didn't see it.
Rage. Rage. Rage. What an exhausted, unstructured, failed narrative. What possessed the author to create such abominably unlikable male and female leads, is completely incomprehensible. The main problem of this manga is precisely that. What the hell possessed you to think this is a GOOD IDEA? The author seemed to spend little time actually thinking and attempting to create believable, and three dimensional characters. But rather stuffed insufferable tropes (hot guy + unlikely plain-Jane) into a plot - that act as an misguided attempt to attract a wider audience.
Instead, here we are stuck with a hollow, vapid, and gullible heroine. Erika, meekly accepts the verbal and mental abuse that her male counterpart heaps on her - to act as a 'dog' for her fake boyfriend. The only 'quality' that our precious Kyoya possesses is that he is dangerously attractive. Yes! I haven't seen that! ever! look at me! I'm f**king swooning!!11!!
Other than that, overall Kyoya is a atrocious caricature that literally day dreams about dragging Erika around in a dog collar. Excuse me, what the shit. What infuriated me even more was that half the nonsense that was actually considered plot, character development and etc, etc, was supposedly a massive joke. Sorry, I'm not in on this garbage. The story is just inorganic, unfiltered, tedious nonsense. What complete gibberish. Burn this before it pollutes your mind.
(And probably only finished it to the very end because I was super sick when reading this yesterday and since it was too late in the day to fall asleep, I NEEDED something to keep me awake.)
Kyoya is the most red flag love interest I have ever read in fiction. I’m still trying to wrap my brain around the fact this is the same mangaka as Ima Koi because Kyoya and Yagyu are SO different. Like Yagyu is such a gentleman, while Kyoya is like "your my dog, woof for me." (And I mean that for real. Like Kyoya *actually* said that…and more than once at that…)
I’ll give the mangaka credit though because I DID actually read to the end (despite that I mentally checked out the first time Kyoya called Erika his dog), but even when Kyoya had some thoughtful moments, I just couldn’t get behind the romance. He may have a rough backstory, but there is still no reason why he should treat our heroine so badly for well over half this volume!
A part of me is like “he’ll change and treat her better, so I should continue reading this series,” but nothing can justify his actions to let me keep picking up volumes and say it’s okay even if they have a happy ending because NO ONE should ever be told "your my dog and I'm your master."
I won’t be continuing this one. I didn’t love the heroine and definitely wasn’t fond of Kyoya and will NOT be recommending this manga to anyone.
(I received an e-ARC from the publisher. All thoughts expressed are my own.)*
So far so good. Having watched the movie (and loving it, big fan of Kento Yamazaki!!) I felt that I had to read the manga. Of course that also ment that there would be no surprise reagarding the story development... I like Erica, the main character, but she tries to be someone who's not her. Hopefully, this manga will explore her character more in depth in the next volumns.
A huge nope to this first book in this series, that I won't pursue reading anyway. This book was highly disturbing. As a feminist, it was hard to read. As a woman, it was hard to read. As a human being, it was hard to read.
Nobody should be treated like the girl was treated by this horrible, horrible guy. The guy literally calls his "girlfriend a dog, and he keeps on humiliating her throughout the whole book (and, I guess, the whole saga). I don't care if he could be redeemed because of a tragic past or whatever, I just don't condone anybody treating someone like that.
My thanks to NetGalley and VIZ Media LLC for an eARC copy of this book to read and review.
Well, you can't win them all. Chalk this one up to, if you want to find the five star manga series, you have to read a lot that makes your brain hurt.
Ok, I am being a lot harsher on this then would be fair, however, I truly did NOT like this one.
I am SO TIRED of unhealthy relationships being portrayed and packaged to the YA crowd. Yes, I get it, healthy relationships are boring to read about (I'm looking at you Ima Koi), you want an interesting story, get unhealthy and Drama Llama Queen the HECK out of it.
But, could we maybe have the relationship NOT include the MC H calling the MC h his "dog" and THEN by the end of the volume, she calls HERSELF that when speaking to him like it's the most natural thing in the world?!?
NO!! Just NO!! That is a line and it wasn't just crossed, it was barreled over at warp speed, do not pass go, do not collect $200.
I can only in good conscience recommend this to adults who understand that the "romance" portion of this is SUPER unhealthy and they just like OTT drama.
Also, the MC h is a self-professed liar, who lies to keep two girls who are her "friends" whom she doesn't even LIKE, because she wants to be "cool". She has one true friend who knows this about the MC h, yet remains her friend anyway for some reason. IDK, for Reasons.
1, I can't give it more than that I'm sorry this just did NOT work for me, stars.

Just what kind of joke is this relationship? It's the perfect read for anyone who thinks humiliating and degrading behaviors from guys are "cute and funny." In other words, if you're brainless enough to accept the way women are looked down upon in this manga and if you're into protagonists that don't have any self-respect. Then yes, this is for you.
I don't understand how this can be so popular that its getting it's own live action movie. This is horrible. The main character is trying so hard to make friends she's willing to lie about being in a relationship so they think she's cool. Like what happened to being yourself. She also doesn't want to tell them its a lie because she's afraid they will disown her. Come on if someone is not going to be friends with you over trivial things like that then their really not your friends.
If you think the protagonist is bad the love interest is a complete douche hole. Pretending to be in a relationship with her only if he gets to treat her like a dog. No. NOOOO!! that is not okay. What are we teaching young girls now a days. it's alright to be a punching bag? because it's not. Seriously the only redeeming quality right now is her best friend.
It is damning this with faint praise to say that the good news is that Kyoya doesn't try anything physical with fake girlfriend Erika. This is one of those books where it's hard to find anything to like about either protagonist - Erika is poisoned by shoujo manga and believes she needs romance (and her crummy friends don't help) while Kyoya is incredibly cynical. Both clearly have their reasons for this - nothing in Kyoya's life has indicated that women are trustworthy - but it's exhausting reading about them. It's got the blandness of Ima Koi without the fluffy charm.
I liked this book but not enough to want to read the rest of the series. I did not like the idea of someone pretending to be her boyfriend, just for him to want her to be at his beck and call all the time. Yeah, I get that it was a trade off kind of deal. But, I've never liked that kind of deal.
I do hope that the rest of the series gets better for the readers who actually like this kind of plot.
The graphics weren't bad at all it's just the plot and storyline didn't grab me.
I just finished watching the anime, so the story is not new for me... But I got really into it these last days, and I had to read the manga too. It's just like revisiting the story, but much much better <3
True rating: 1.5 stars I did not care for the main characters and disliked the plot. This reminds me of books like Boys over Flowers and Twilight which don't have appealing characters and the plot could potentially mislead youngsters. This is just not for me.
This is a really annoying manga that does look down on the women in some scenes. But still I read it. It's not bad, even if I really wanted to smack the protagonist in the face a lot of the time. The guy is an ass in a selfish way - not in a macho way - which I don't really mind since I rarely get to see this kind of character really portrayed well. And right now, I'm on a story arc with a really annoying character. He's so annoyingly stubborn I just want to punch him in the face, excuse my violent-ness, but he is seriously annoying!
This manga series is fun to read and there are parts in it that are hilarious, but there are some parts of it that the readers such as myself might be confused about or wonder why the author made certain choices.
Before I get into that though, just a brief summary of what this series is about: the female lead Erika Shinohara wants to fit in and desperately wants validation from her two friends, so she decides to lie to them that she has a boyfriend. Her friends got suspicious of her, so she takes a picture of some random hot guy at the mall and shows it to her friends claiming it’s her boyfriend. And to her surprise, she found out this guy (Kyouya Sata) goes to the same school as her (how convenient), and they just start fake dating despite not knowing each other at all. Everything just starts from there.
What I don’t necessarily like about this series is that most of the conflict in this story revolves around Erika and Kyouya getting jealous, then getting into a fight, making up and then getting jealous again. Yes, it does make the story more enjoyable considering it is a romance manga, and romance mangas aren’t romance mangas without jealousy, but, I would’ve liked more conflict that didn’t stem from jealousy. The conflict that does come from jealousy in this book normally leads to developments in their relationship, while all the other conflicts are quite irrelevant and doesn’t lead to any development.
Speaking of character development, I really like Kyouya’s character development in the story. While he’s sometimes cold to Erika, but there’s still a lot of improvement in their relationship, more specifically his character. As for Erika, she doesn’t change much over the course of the story if not at all. She’s always trying really hard to keep the relationship together and Kyouya just doesn’t care as much. She’s mostly the one doing the chasing and putting a lot of energy into him and she’s not really getting the same thing back.
I honestly do not think Erika and Kyouya’s relationship is a healthy relationship at all. The male lead acts cold and behaves as if he doesn’t care but is also super controlling at the same time. The female lead is actually a really determined and strong headed girl but when it comes to the male lead she just gives into whatever he says and practically puts him on a pedestal. Towards the end of the series he even threatened to break up with her if she was going to go to a college in another prefecture, of course everything worked out in the end, but after that scene you realize how toxic the relationship actually is.
When I was reading the ending of Wolf Girl and Black Prince, it felt really nostalgic in a way because they were all grown up and working, married, and they came a long way from during the main part of the series they were still in high school together. I just thought that the ending was a really nice final touch to end this series with.
Overall this is a pretty good series, I really enjoyed reading it. It’s not amazingly special but if you’re looking for something that’s light and funny to read, I’d recommend for you to give this series a try.
I'm following the anime this season. It's still on going. Still Episode 3. And I like it so far. So I decided to read the manga too.
I'm not a manga person. I'm more an anime person. I don't really read manga simply because manga is all black and white while the anime is colorful. And we get to hear the characters' voice in anime. So I prefer watching anime LOL
and we also can see this perfection on anime
I love comedy romance stories and this manga is one of them. It's funny and has a dominant-submissive part in it. But not the kinky one. The cute domination one. Kyouya-kun is a total ドS
This volume of manga includes in Episode 1 - 3 in the anime
I love Kyouya-kun here! I knew he actually cares about Erika. I can't wait to see they both fall for each other! XD
I love it when Kyouya is protecting Erika
Kyouya is still so damn full of himself even when he's sick.
I love the part when Erika comes to take care of him to his apartment.
They're so good together. I can't wait to see them as the real couple
And what I like most from the anime is because we can meet the chibi Kyouya. He's so cuteee
This manga is not bad. The storyline is a romance with nothing so spectacular about it, the new is in the character's, in which I cannot like the male character...
While not the most original manga, I'm a sucker for a "bad boy is a sad boy" shojo. And I like the fact that neither character likes each other right away, so I'm interested in seeing how this develops.
This is easily one of the most toxic relationships I've ever witnessed, created for one of the most contrived reasons. I might keep reading just to see how it goes, but if you want good romance, read Ima Koi.
