I learned very little about Joyce from reading this, but then what did I expect.

The book includes a short biography of Joyce, a history of critical reaction to his books, and some interpretive commentary on the major works (there is a good analysis of the stories in Dubliners and of the levels of meaning on one page of Finnegans Wake). The bibliography is detailed, but fairly dated now.

This book could use less of an overview of critical reactions to Joyce's works, and more in depth analysis and critique of Joyce's works.
