Maxine Marshall wasn’t looking for love. Love was a crazy and complex emotion that she wanted no part of. After a stint with an abusive boyfriend that left her vulnerable and low, all she wanted was—sex. Lots of SEX!
Donnée Patrese Harris was born a hopeless romantic in Gary, Indiana with her mother, father and 8 siblings.
As very young child she would spend all of her time reading books and getting lost in her own imagination. She would often find herself "finishing" books that she read in her own words. She just couldn't bare to let the story end. It was at this point she decided she wanted to be a published writer.
Most people realized writing was in her blood. Junior high school teachers were impressed with her poetry and short stories. It was in Junior High that Donnée was exposed to her first romance novel.
By the time she arrived at West Side High School in 1998 she began to write poetry in Spanish.
Knowing she wanted to write Donnée thought she could use her creativity in a different setting. She received a B.A. in Journalism from Butler University and spent a short time as a reporter for the Post Tribune in Gary and Merrillville, Indiana.
Though reporting was very interesting, Donnée felt her creative heart was being smothered and the life of a reporter no longer appealed to her. After giving birth to her daughter she decided to focus on her writing.
Donnée is a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority and is the Co-Owner and Executive Creative Director of First Draft Publishing, LLC.
Currently, Donnée is working on Diary of a Wanted Woman which is set to be completed Fall 2012 and Down and Dirty which is set to be completed Spring of 2013.
She now lives in Bakersfield, CA with her loving husband, 3 kids and cat.
I have a rule if you can’t engage me in the first 3-4 pages eventhough the synopsis on the back of the book is off the chain, I’m done. However, Donnee Patrese got me with page 5 and after page 5 I was hooked & hooked & hooked. Prohibited tells the story of a young girl (Maxine) who finds herself in love with her best male friends’ (Mikey) father (Michael). This a tale that is exciting although a little predictable with a lot of twists and turns that make you wonder sometimes, but yet still somewhat predictable. Maxine is a typical young girl who becomes “prey to an older man who decides he can’t leave his family yet his family decides they don’t want him. This a story with some twists that make you want to step into the lives of characters and beat the hell out of a few. Book is rated a 5 for content & storyline. Although some areas are predictable the storyline is believable and the sex is erotica at its’ best. Donnee Patrese keep up the good work girlie you have a bright future ahead of you.
I brought this book in October 2013 and its my first book by this author. (Interracial Story)
This is Maxine, Michael, Marie and Mikey's. The story is about all 4 characters. At first I thought it was Maxine's story but discovered all 4 lives are intertwined with each other.
Maxine is single one of best friends is Mikey. Mikey is married to Stacey who hates Maxine. Michael and Marie are married to each other and Mikey is their son.
At first I was routing for Maxine for her find happiness. I thought even though the situation was messy her and Michael could make it and I started routing for Michael and Maxine together that they would find happiness. Well as some men do Michael and Maxine have an opportunity of happiness and Michael makes the wrong choice which then backfires on him and ruins the chance of happiness that he and Maxine had.
Well what happens between Maxine and Mikey at the end the book had me with my mouth hanging open wondering oh hell where do we go from here. Unfortunately that is where the book ends and book 2 has not been written which is a shame because I would love to know how the story ends.
Marie is the villain of the piece for me and she is the cause of everyone's unhappiness due to her selfishness. I wanted to slap her within a inch of her life!!!!
The book drew me in from page 1. I enjoyed the story even though it ends on a cliffhanger it is still a great read. Its an emotional roller-coaster which I enjoyed riding until the very end.
If you are not offended by mess relationships then I would highly recommend this read!
Although I enjoyed this tale of "May/December" romance amongst two secret lovers, I feel that the author should have developed her characters a lot more, and that she should have done more to ensure that the flow of the novel was smoother. Also, I believe that the factor of abuse should have been explored more, because as I was reading this novel, I began to wonder if the abuse was even a major issue for Maxine. To me, it seemed like the character of Maxine was somewhat immature. Anyhoo, I'm looking forward to reading the sequel, just so I can know what happens to Maxine and her circle of "friends."
This book got me out of my comfort zone. I don’t like reading messy books and this book was messy. I was actually intrigued to see where the author was going with the story. I liked the storyline. It was different. The author is a gifted writer, however the ending is what through me off and the reason why I won’t read book 2. I felt like she made it into a soap opera. The character is sleeping with father and son come on now how soap opera can you get.
I can just picture book two. She’s probably going to get pregnant and don’t know who the father is.
Noooooooooooooo! I can not be left with such a "what the ?"
I knew it! I knew Mikey had a thing for Maxi! The magnetism leap off the pages!
So I read this book with a pretty mellow calmness. Right up until Michael threw his wife's things over the balustrade. I got pissed with him. I was angry for/with him. Where I usually have a foulness for "cheaters". (Strictly due to my own experiences and beliefs)I found myself re-evaluating my opinions. It takes quite a bit for me to do that. Where as I pitied him. I also pitied his wife. A loveless relationship by any means is a toxic-ness all it's own. At first I also labeled Maxi a slut. What can I say? I'm a typical woman. This book really takes you on a evaluation of your opinion's and judgements. All in all at the end of the day my opinion simply came down to...never judge a person, you don't know their journey. Nor the path that lead them to the place and time. It's a good read with a lot of drama. I cheered when Micheal's wife found her true sexualness and gave into it uninhibited.
I guess I'll be searching for the 2nd book being I was left on such a cliff! GAH! :P
Loved the story but the ending didn't tell me what happened! I need closure! But the story was super erotic and emotionally charged. I hope there's a sequel
Haven't gotten hooked on a drama like this in years! Immediately bought the sequel :3 It's extremely erotic, but not at the cost of a good story-line. The author has you empathizing with every character, even those you first think are unlikable. I feel so attached to them now and MUST see where everyone ends up!
I did not expect a cliff hanger like this, not in my wildest assumption, imagination, could I foreseen that Maxine would not think about this complication & ramifications!!! Me like her would leave town & not look back. To hell with father & son...
While my family gathered into the living room after Christmas Dinner, I curled up in bed to read this book…. Oh, if they only knew… LOL! ;)
Maxine is through with relationships after her last one ended in disaster. All she is looking for from a man is sex. She has that with an older man named Michael. There are some problems though. Michael is married and he’s her best friend Mikey’s father. To make a bad situation worse, Mikey has feelings for her.
SCANDALOUS! ;)
To be honest, I didn’t like the hero or heroine. I just couldn’t connect with them. Especially Michael. He came off incredibly selfish to me. In my opinion based on what I read, Michael is still in love with his wife Maria but it was her lack of desire for physical intimacy that drove him to have affairs. (She harbors a secret of her own though… which I won’t spoil.) Still, Michael wants more than just a physical connection with Maxine, he wants an emotional one as well. He knew she wanted to keep her emotions out of the equation, but he was relentless about it. He wanted to have his cake and eat it too.
Now, as for Maxine. She went through hell with her previous boyfriend, so I understand wanting to have a casual, drama-free relationship. But sleeping with a married man who happens to be one of your best friends’ father? If that’s not drama, than I don’t know what is…. ;)
The sex scenes aren’t overly explicit, but they are steamy. “Prohibited” ends on a cliffhanger so don’t expect the story to be resolved. There is more drama to come in book 2!!
Even though I might not have connected or even liked this couple, I really enjoyed reading it. I don’t think this book is for everyone. Infidelity can trigger high emotional responses (understandably) so if that is an issue that you are particularly sensitive to, I suggest you steer clear. But if you like books with drama, lies, deceit, betrayal, and forbidden hookups give “Prohibited” a try! :)
Let me start by saying, I am not a prude. I believe in love at just about any cost. But, I did not like the way this book started and I certainly didn't like the way it ended. Somewhere along the way I did root for Maxine and Michael Sr. He meets Maxine and they start what she terms as a "sexual" relationship only. Michael Sr. started wanting something of more substance. And after a while she did too. Just as she realizes she's fallen in love with him, his wife, Marie, decides that she can't let him go. Michael Sr. really loved his wife Marie and wanted to save his marriage even though he'd been unhappy for the last 6 years of his 25 year marriage. Then there was the relationship between Maxine and Mikey (Michael Jr.). They were college friends who "innocently" flirted with each other through out their friendship...until Mikey discovers his fathers attraction to Maxine and he wants to profess his love for her even though he's recently married as well. Then Marie decides to "re-discover and be true to herself" and grant the divorce Michael Sr. wanted from the beginning. By the end of the story I wasn't liking Maxine or Marie. This is the messiest story I've read in like...forever. Add to that some editing problems and the way it ended, I don't see myself waiting or reading the next installment. WHEW!!!
I was willing to give Maxine the benefit of the doubt, but the ending kinda twisted my sympathy for her. Especially the very last line
I'm not judging the infidelity because it was pretty obvious that Michael Sr and Maria's marriage was over a long time ago and the shifting POV's showed each character's motivation, rightly or wrongly. This was an ok book, kinda predictable and I enjoyed it enough to finish it. Now because I really am a twisted girl, I wouldn't mind seeing a
Hmm. Not sure about this book. I really dislike the affairs and I did not appreciate the overly descriptive and (in my view) graphic description of the lesbian love scene.
Maxine I'm sorry to say is a straight whore. If she wants sex so badly why can't she hook up with single men? Why allow yourself to be in a compromising situations? And sleeping with father and son and even worse with not a single condom used? C'mon son!
I need a better explanation as to why Mickey held out for so long and did not claim Maxine earlier. His excuse was lame. Why didn't he confront his dad about his affairs?
How can Selina just pack up and go leaving her kids behind? I know they are grown but damn!
All the characters are a mess and I don't like any of them, neither am I rooting for any of them to win.
The characters need a bit more developing and

This was one sexy, erotic ,high octane ride dealing with the lives of some of the most confused people. This is a story of a young lady who's been hurt not only by the one she loved, but by the death of her father. This leads to some questionable behavior and leaping before she looks. This is also the story of a failing marriage and about not being true to yourself and who you love. This was one really well written and executed story, you canore't help but being pulled into the eye of the storm. There is more to come for the people in this story and I will definitely stay tuned.
3.5 stars. Oh boy, what a cliffhanger! I can't believe Ms. Patrese left it like that! I seriously hope that there is a sequel coming up because there are just so many unanswered questions. Honestly, if I knew there was gonna be a cliffhanger I probably wouldn't have read this book until it's sequel came out but oh well. I still really enjoyed the all the drama packed into this book. I really hope that there is a sequel because if not; this would be a very disappointing book! However, for now it's still a good read :)
WTF did I just read?? OMG!!! SMH I can't form words!! Wow ok Maria is a triflin witch!! I'm sorry you can't expect a men to be faithful if you're not willing to have sex with him. Let's be honest. You haven't let him touch you in years. Hell I'll be unfaithful too. Mikey should have express his feelings a long time ago. I feel bad for Michael. I really do. He loved Maria and she didn't give 2 f**ks about his feelings. Just how people will view their family and lifestyle. And what happen to Mitchell??
pleasantly very good. Not overly steamy as some I've read but all in all a continuous read. You get so caught up in Maxie that you keep turning the page. However the ending left you wanting more. I will be looking for more from this author.
Naughty, naughty girl, Maxine is down right nasty and naughty...a.married man,his son,a sad miserable sexually confused wife, everyone cheating on each other...what a scandal....Maybe it'll will get even nastier in the sequel...can't wait...oh my!
What in the entire hell? First of the book was good but that ending was bs. The things I thought would happen didn't it was to much of a cliffhanger I hope that there's a sequel.
