What if civilization came to an abrupt end... What if you were left on your own to survive... If everything had been taken from you would you risk your life to get it back or would you just attempt to hide in the shadows hoping the trouble would all go away? Heroes are not born, they are self made through their actions and deeds. Perhaps there are no more heroes. Perhaps this is the end for man. A handful of survivors are left to decide.
I came to this planet sixty some odd years ago. After exiting my mother's portal, the doctor slapped me around until I started breathing the oxygen. I'll admit, at the time, I had no idea what I was doing or where I was. Being an infant Human, I was completely reliant on the responsible actions of others. It was a time that I have largely forgotten.
I reside in Central Florida with the wife and children. After thirty years in engineering, my time is now spent chronicling the adventures of fictitious heroes. They are off-world, fighting the good fight. For me? I'm stuck here on this planet in this feeble existence that we Humans are all forced to endure.
So, I ask you this... do you wish to escape the bonds of this surly planet we call Earth? Are you looking for a bit more adventure than what the grocery store has to offer? Do you worry about being enslaved by alien androids or six-eyed alien goats with lasers? Pew, pew, pew!
Yeah, that's what I thought. Asking yourself those questions and getting back an answer is the first hurdle to cross in the race to get off this world. Sounds like you are ready to venture out, to put this place behind you.
So crack open one of my books. Take to the heavens and let me shout this out to those who remain: "Watch out universe! Another Human is on the loose!"
This review is from: SODIUM:2 Apocalypse (Kindle Edition)
Again told from a single narrator's point of view which is a perfectly acceptable way to tell a story. Just as in SODIUM: 1 HARBINGER, the main character isn't particularly likable in the first part of the story. But, like real people, he learns from his mistakes & matures. He seems to think of himself as an ordinary guy thrown into extraordinary circumstances. However, he & his companions become real heros.
I liked the idea that this book continued the story of the aliens, but not with the same narrator, but instead with the new narrator being the little boy who received the part of the alien from book one's narrator. I had to give up on the book for now. There has been very little mention of the alien technology (I'm sure it will come out further in the book). The beginning of the book is just the narrator's life story, and he's really not someone that I care to know, root for or learn more about, so I just don't want to invest my time in the book right now.
A great second part to the story started in Sodium#1. This book is largely post apocalyptic. Set in Florida it tells of an alien invasion that leaves millions dead in South eastern Florida and the area annexed by aliens. There are a small handful of survivors though and a lone man finds three teenagers and offers them shelter and safety, which they later adept into guerrilla tactics to fight back and reclaim their world.
An alien invasion destroys Southern Florida. Through luck and a little foresight one survivor finds two young sisters hiding in their tree house. This begins an epoch challenge to survive and engage the he invaders. This would make an interesting movie.
I can’t say enough about this book and series. It is a work of art! The characters are well formed and lovable. The story fantastic. You have to get on board for a terrific ride!
I love this. Its both a fun sci-fi novel with some great twists as well as a study into our need for human connections. There is a touch of romance but mostly its a story of found family and what we will do to survive.
Positively a delight to read. Again, the author's main character is an all too human (flawed) individual who adopts a small family and builds a sustainable colony after utter devastation by an alien force. As a child, he was given a tiny piece of alien technology by the hero of book 1 of the series. As an adult struggling to survive after the alien attack, he invents powerful, if crude, weapons his tiny family uses to try to get vengeance for the alien destruction. He will need a terrific amount of luck to make his plans work. I know you will be delighted by this book, as delighted as I am that there is even more to this series.
If I could insert myself in this book I would like to be part of the apocalypse. I think it would be really interesting to be part of the invasion and to help destroy the aliens. It would be awesome to travel around a abandoned city and to find anything we need for free. I would most likely compliment the plot by helping the main character with many chores and helping setup the weapons and fire them against the Aliens.
A great read! I enjoyed the first one and this 2nd one even more. When the scruffy bearded old man grabs the kid outside of the restaurant and gives him the Alien part... it hit me! Too funny! Well done Mr Arseneault!
I really enjoy Mr. Arseneault's story telling. He has the mark of a good author in that I can't wait to get back to reading it when I've been away for a bit.
