Golden Books and Mattel are proud to celebrate 50 years of Barbie books! Girls ages 2-5 will love this this special edition Barbie Little Golden Book featuring vintage art from 1962.
Yes, I am 45 years old and I read a Little Golden Book about Barbie. And I enjoyed the vintage artwork.
I was pleasantly surprised by the book. I grew up with Barbie. I knew she could be a doctor, an astronaut or anything else she wanted to be...but I was in love with Barbie in the early 80s and thought it was modern Barbie. In reality, Barbie was dreaming about living independently in a big city, camping with a boy, considering a career as a pilot, dancing all night with her friends...and all sorts of things I didn't really expect young girls in 1962 to be reading.
I love the cover it is so nostalgic. The inside was good but I just wanted the art to match the cover a little more. Why do little girls love barbie so much? Especially these old school vintage Barbies.
Short picture book with vintage illustrations. Nice little story about who Barbie is, what she likes and what her dreams are. My rating 2 - there wasn't enough story. Target audience rating 3 stars.
Okay, I have just decided that I need to somehow transport myself inside this book, because this is exactly the kind of life I want and the beautiful world I wish to live in...and those clothes! Dang, this Barbie gal certainly DOES have it all.
Please note, however, that Midge is a redhead and should be depicted thusly. For some reason, she is raven-haired in this book. Hopefully this will be changed in future editions.
