Little Kids First Big Book of Space
This beautiful book is the latest addition to the National Geographic Little Kids First Big Book series. These colourful pages will introduce young children to the wonders of space, with colourful illustrations by David Aguilar and simple text that is perfect for beginning readers or for reading aloud.
The book will explain basic concepts of space, beginning with what is most familiar to kids and expanding out into the universe.
Chapters include:
• Chapter 1 focuses on the Earth, moon, and sun.
• Chapter 2 introduces kids to the other planets in our solar system.
• Chapter 3 explains other objects in our solar system, such as dwarf planets, comets, and asteroid belts.
• Chapter 4 voyages even farther afield, touching on concepts such as the universe, the Milky Way, stars, galaxies, and black holes.
• The last chapter delves into space exploration: humans on the moon, spaceships, the International Space Station, etc.

I haven't actually read this, but Isha is obsessed with it. Just today, she sternly warned me never to go to space myself lest I should wander too close to a black hole, in which case I would never be able to escape and have to spend the rest of my life there.

It takes me THIRTY MINUTES to read this aloud to my four year old and he just sits through the whole thing and eats it all up even though we’ve read a hundred books about space over and over and over. This is definitely one of the better ones.

cool but dated
Fun astronomy primer for kids in 2nd-4th grade. The only ding is that it was published in 2012 and some material is dated (ie: this will occur in 2015…etc)

This is really great, but has really outdated information about rovers, flybys, etc. I'm going to look for an updated version.

My four year old aspires to be a pilot and loves all things about flying and space. This book was added into our nighttime routine and he was always eager to have me read a page or two. With incredible photos, great layouts, short paragraphs, this is a pretty amazing first big non-fiction book for my early reader. Added bonus: reading about space and staring at stars has been so helpful with putting my little one in a calm mood right before bed.

Awesome book is awesome!
Our six year old (soon to be first grader!) loves everything about outer space. The Little Kids First Big Book of Space is an excellent resource! She marveled over fun facts about the different planets in our solar system and was wowed by the size of our universe. She enjoys reading the book to herself and loves trying to sound out the names of the planets and their moons. A whole lot of giggling has been going on.
The book focuses mainly on our solar system, but does venture further into space explaining black holes and nebulas. Overall, if you are looking for a book for those kids in your life who love all things space or nonfiction or heck, just a good read, I'd highly recommend this book.

I gave this book 4 stars because it had a lot to learn about space. I gave it 1 less star because I could not pronounce it properly.

I am bringing my Nephews to Nasa as their Christmas gift. I bought this book so they would have something to open and learn some things beforehand.
Super glad I went with this one. I think I have read it about 5 times. Twice out loud to my household (all adults) who urged me to read on if I tried to stop after a chapter. I like the sections the book is broken out really helps someone who knows little about space.
As someone who reads a lot and loved school, science wasn't my favorite (crazy I know) and National Geographic wasn't what I reached for. I guess what I am trying to say is this is a good introductory to Space to get anyone intrigued adults or Children.
It intrigued me so much.... I bought the adult version (hahaha)

This is a perfect book for children who love to learn about the universe and space! This book is very inviting for children with colorful pages and bright pictures. This book is about space and all things space! It teaches children about the moon and the sun and all the planets in the solar system. This book even talks about other things in our solar system such as dwarf planets, comets, the Milky Way, stars, and even black holes.
I rated this book with 5 stars because it teaches children about space and how people have traveled to the moon and what it is like outside of our universe. I believe this is a great book fro children to pick up because space is something every child should know about.

Great comprehensive book about space for Kindergarten/1st grade level. I didn’t really need to know the names of all the spacecrafts that traveled to these planets. Also didn’t really need to know the names of all the moons, since it didn’t include them all. The rest of the book is great. There’s 2-3 pages on each planet and a basic overview of other things in space. There’s questions to make sure the child is paying attention laid throughout the book. The pictures are great. The size comparisons referenced are helpful. I liked that there were ideas for crafts/activities in the back of the book. It was a great one to grab for a homeschool lesson on space.

This is a beautiful book. My 5-year-old son LOVES it. He hangs on every picture and tidbit of info and wants to discuss while reading. I recommend it for all space loving children and then parents.
I mostly buy kindle books, but this is a very rewarding physical book to hold and look through - thick glossy pages, vibrant pictures, nice big text, excellent flow and layout - I can't say enough good things about it.

This National Geographic Kids guide to the solar system contains more than one hundred photographs and illustrations that support a simple text for beginning readers. Filled with fun facts and questions to encourage interactive learning, this book introduces young readers to space and all that is in it. Parent tips offer ideas for shared learning experiences for parents and children. A glossary is included.

As with the others in this series, this is a fun book full of great information geared towards a younger audience. None of it is overwhelming, but neither is it missing anything important for a good overview of space. If you have a kid with a science inclination or a space inclination, this is a great book to get them.

We love this book! The pictures are beautiful, the information is simple enough for a child to understand yet learn something at the same time. We've read this edition many times, it's one of our favorites. I may have to purchase and add it to our space library section. 🌞⭐🌍🌛🌌

A fantastic book about space for little kids. My 4yr loves it, but I imagine older kids would find interesting stuff in it as well.
The book is long and comprehensive, but all the information is very clear and written in bite-sized chunks accompanied by giant colorful illustrations.

This is a great informational book about the solar system. It is written in an engaging way and uses words that kids will understand. This could definitely be used in an early elementary science class!
