The first in a line of adventures within the National Geographic Kids Chapters series, Crocodile Encounters will surely prove to be one of the most exciting. Follow along with National Geographic explorer Brady Barr as he crawls into a muddy hole just barely big enough for his shoulders, and comes face to face with thirteen crocodiles! Laugh out loud as you learn how to catch a crocodile using shoe laces and underpants. Read in anticipation to find out what happens when you put a 600-lb crocodile on an airplane in just a flimsy wooden crate. These action-packed stories and more will engage readers and inspire them to go out and explore their own world.
Stories include: • "Undercover Croc," in which Brady "becomes a crocodile," by donning a specially-designed protective croc suit, and infiltrates a group of Nile crocodiles in Tanzania. • "Toy Story," in which he uses (and loses) a radio-controlled car with video camera, in a hilarious failed attempt to capture a Nile crocodile in South Africa. • "Deep Dark Den"--in an attempt to relocate a group of crocodiles causing problems to neighboring villagers in Costa Rica, Brady finds himself underground in a deep muddy hole with thirteen angry crocs. • "Croc in a Box," Brady tries to move a giant, troublesome croc from Uganda safely to an American zoo, but discovers the croc is much stronger than the "sturdy wooden box" that has been built to contain him.

Bought this as a gift to a kid, but after reading it I was wondering why its labelled just a kid's book.It chronicles herpetologist Brady Barr's dibbly-dobbly croc-catching expeditions in Tanzania, South Africa, Uganda and Costa Rica narrated comically with vivid pictures and catchy croc-facts.The best part was his implementation of croc-catching ideas from elementary school children.A good light read.
“Crocodile Encounters” by Brady Barr is an awesome and very informative book. It briefly explains and show how the life of a a Crocodile hunter is. It explains how they study Crocodiles and how they use many methods of catching them. It explains a lot about a Crocodile and tells you what to do if you want to be a Crocodile hunter one day. I would definitely recommend this book to people who like Crocodiles and who want to some day be a Crocodile hunter like Brady Barr
So crocodiles are a little scary. And some of the things that people do to get close to these powerful reptiles are even scarier. I can’t believe that I even could read some of the things that happened to get scientific information about crocodiles. But I know that young scientists who love reptiles loved it. I liked how it talked about how kids would give ideas for how to get close to crocs and then the scientists would actually try them.
I also especially liked how this has just enough information and stories filled with potential crocodile danger that even reluctant readers would be interested in seeing what is going on.
I ❤️ed this book. It Was amazing. I recommend this book to people who love action, national geographic series, crocodiles, and non fiction. It is also a mission book to save crocodiles.

This is an excellent introduction to the different species of crocodiles as well as the methods scientists use to study them. The author has studied many different types of crocodiles, even putting on a crocodile suit and entering an area where there were many large crocodiles. There are explanations of the life style of crocodiles, but most of the text is devoted to the author’s experiences with them. Barr has even created a “croc school,” where he has taught people in other countries how to capture and move large crocodiles that have become a menace to humans. Since the only alternative to dealing with these endangered species is to kill them, capturing them is done whenever possible. Dealing with animals powerful enough to easily kill you is an exciting and dangerous profession. The thrill and challenge of working with crocodiles is captured in the text and images of this book. Children will love it.
This one was great! Livy and I learned so much about crocodiles, found lots of interesting countries on the map, and enjoyed the crazy stunts of the croc scientist. We're definitely keeping going on this series.
Science/crocodiles (high-interest, low reading-level) Yes! this is exactly the kind of book we need to get more kids reading (and liking it) and to get them interested in science. Thank you, NatGeo Kids, Brady Barr and Kathleen Weidner Zoehfeld.
Yeah, this one is really exciting and on the edge of your seat! And it's funny too--a man impersonating a crocodile and then having one try to be friends with him. Can't help but love it!
