I loved the last book 'Heart Dark Matter' it completely captivated me so as soon as I'd finished I downloaded this one, now this one picks up exactly where 'Heart' left off which I liked, I didn't want a neat summary I wanted to be there through it. In this book Cor is struggling to come to terms with who his father is and what will happen between him and Caitlyn, Jane finally comes to terms with what Cor is and how she's let him down, Caitlyn has a lot in her plate, obviously, Mr Grifford is trying his best to handle everything that's been thrown at him and Taylor, wow Taylor's been busy.... As I said this book starts where 'Heart' left off clearing up the mess and trying to get back on with their lives, the beginning of this book didn't grip me like the last one did, it's quite slow moving. The pace picks up, especially when we discover what Cor and Taylor have both been doing with their spare time and then the book really comes into it's own. Why only 3 stars?.....well apart from the slow beginning again Caitlyn was the weak link for me, in the last book I felt she needed more padding, the bits we were given didn't all fit and I felt we needed more, in his book we get more and yes she's in an unusual position being newly converted and having to come to terms with her new life but I still felt she was 'off' she makes a few silly decisions and then towards the end a 'too stupid to live' moment. Now I know she's not alone regarding really bad decisions I mean Taylor made a classic but somehow that didn't seem quite as bad since it didn't stem from stupidity. Will I read the next book...of course, I can't wait to find out what happens next.
CHAOS CHAOS EVERYWHERE Alright , now lets backtrack to when i had finished reading Dark heart Matter book 1 in the Cor Griffin bloodsucker series : Me : Aha Nathan Wrann i have your Vampiric paranormal world completely figured out !! Nathan Wrann : Hmmm , ok . Here , read From out of Chaos Book 2 in the series . Me : Okay .. *Takes the book and reads it * OH MY GOD !!!! What the hell ?!!! *Jaw dropped , shocked and stunned !! * What was that all about ? How on earth ... Why .... How is that even happening ... Ugggh !!! Too many questions unanswered and the wait to the next book , so freaking long !! Nathan Wrann : * smiling * Glad you liked the book . Me : * Pokerface* .
Yup , thats exactly how i feel the scene might have played out if it would have been for realz . This book seriously and i mean very seriously leaves you with a feeling of shock . It actually feels like someone just zapped you with a taser ! Alright then before i get too dramatic lets get on with this review ..
Cover-speak : It was actually quite shocking to see a rat being featured on the cover of a book and a part of me wondered , ' hmmm - now why would someone depict a rat on the cover of their book . Once you read the book - totally justified , no questions asked . You'll see it when you read the book .
From out of Chaos starts off exactly where Dark matter heart left us off . Now i dont want to give out any spoilers here so i'm going to keep this really short . But i have to say this , after i finished reading Dark heart matter and the way things ended there i thought , well something good was bound to happen somewhere but that was not to be . *sighs* More destruction and devastation follow our hero , his family and friends . New relationships are formed and some ties are broken in the most gruesome of ways . What will happen to Cor and his friends , a new enemy has been CREATED and most of the questions are still not answered . Will Cor ever get his HEA ??!! Well , the answer to all that can only be answered as we move along with the series .
Certain things that i liked and disliked about the book : Lets get over with the messy 'Dislike' part . The story started off really slow for me . Like almost half of the book we were just hanging out with Cor and the gang trying to figure out stuffs . That did get a little , like a teeny weeny bit boring . On to the awesome part , the second half of the book !!! Things really fired up here , and i mean fired up like hell !! Soo many events taking place simultaneously . Made me wonder how everything was gonna end up . I loved this part of the book and cant wait to read more . I also loved the mention of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein , a very interesting theory bought to life with it !! On the whole a very interesting read , cant wait to see whats gonna happen next , i know one thing for sure its gonna get a lot darker and messier ... Out of Chaos ?? Not really !! Just the beginning to another adventure with twists and turns !!
Book 2 picks right up where book 1 finished. After the events of the last book, Cor is trying to pick up his life and move on. He has to deal with his feelings for Caitlyn and deal with the police still watching him. Caitlyn meanwhile is trying to cope with what she is. She has to pretend to be normal and behave! Taylor gets featured more in this which I liked. He does something though that changes all their lives and not for the better. The first half of the book for me dragged! I was reading it and was thinking if it doesn't get better soon I'm putting it aside!! I'm glad I kept at it because the last bit of the book was so good. From a certain point in the book I became hooked again and there was a big plot twist in From Out Of Chaos that just made me say WHAT. The second half of the book is action packed with lots of twists and turns. Cant wait to see where the story goes from here.
Cor is not sure what to do next, now that he has bitten Catlin what will happen? Will she die anyway or be converted. Giffin is trying to keep Cor out of trouble with the underground & following the rules to keep Catlin alive. The converted are not always so lucky. There is also the fact that now Catlin is like Cor they will not have the pull & attraction like before. They are only attracted to humans.
This story takes a massive turn. You do not see it coming. Frankenstein meets Wilford style. The events smack you in the face. You are pulled in & have to know what happens next.
Ew, ew, ew. Ew, ew, ew. This one deserves an award for throughly grossing me out.
Picking up in the mud where the last book left off, Cor must get to safety. As Mr. Gifford begins the final destruction of The Creeper a chain of events begins. Taylor is at its head. With all the lore that has become fact in the matter of only a few days there has to be more truth out there. And Mr. Scientist is dying to find out.
Caitlyn, meanwhile, seems to be the new teacher’s pet. Which Cor isn’t taking lightly. Why her? Why not his own son? She gets all the benefits and Cor doesn’t understand why. But as these books go, Mr. Gifford’s reasoning is soon explained and just in time.
While the three are working through their personal issues, like why Cor and Caitlyn are no longer drawn to one another, Taylor has bigger fish to fry. He’s been experimenting with old literary fiction. And as it seems, the gore begins to pile up. When you’re a mad scientist with a couple of body parts up your sleeve what are you to do?
The story takes some wild twists and turns as Cor unravels his world. He must face new love as well as loss. And through I was freaked out, which was clearly the intention, I still felt sorrow for these characters. They are enslaved to their own demise. Running and constantly falling short. The story moves rapidly and leaves you with even more loose ends. Some people never seem to learn.
On a scale of one to ten I’d give it about an eight. Only because of personal taste. The author really has strength in being able to dissect and assemble characters. His ability to graphically freak someone out is incredible. And these things are necessary for you to fully grasp the content of each matter. Cor and his friends are not finished with their story yet. So if you liked the first I advise you to continue learning about who and what these people are. Take the time for yourself!
Plot: Since this is the second book in a series, I'm always worried about the plot. It always seems to be that the second book pales in comparison to the first book. That wasn't the case with this book and it was a pleasant surprise. The plot picks up seamlessly from the first book while still doing a great job of identifying the characters for someone who may be reading this book without having read the first one. My favorite part of this book by far is the fact that Nathan ties in things from classic horror novels such as Frankenstein and Dracula. I think it is great that he his tying into the roots of the genre that he is not writing in. It's not a knock off of those works in any way either. He has carved out a fresh new niche while incorporating elements from these wonderful classics. This book will keep you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end.
Characters: I really enjoy the characters in this book series. They are easy to follow and understand (as much as you can understand a vampire and his friends). They are well developed and all play an intricate part in the story. Without just one of the characters in the book it would leave an irreparable void in the plot and story overall.
Readership: This book is readable for anyone that's in middle school or older. I would recommend high school as a good starting point though. I believe this book will appeal to you if you like vampire books, horror books, suspense books, and action/adventure books. It's got a little bit for everyone.
This book is another solid effort by Nathan Wrann.
Nathan wasted no time jumping straight into the story from where we left off in Dark Matter Heart.
Now where do I start?
Ok so firstly a note to anyone who has this on their TBR pile, if you're a sook (like I am), don't read it at night. I had NIGHTMARES!!! It seriously creeped me out! What might have done that you ask? Well I can't give anything away but I will say one thing... Frankenstein... I don't think I have ever had nightmares from a book before. So kudos to Nathan for making me poop my pants (not literally).
So onto the story and what a story it is. Fast-paced, intense, creepy, exciting and full of non-stop action! Nathan Wrann entertains page after page with this energetic vampire story that has many twists and turns along the way. Add in a little pinch on romance and you are on one heck of a ride.
I have been so swept up with this story that I immediately picked up the 3rd book in the series once I was finished. So keep an eye out for my review of Paths of Thorn and Flame which will be posted in the next few days.
I'd actually give it 3.5 stars. I like Mr. Wrann's writing style and how it pulls you in. I like the characters and think they are well done; I'm glad that we actually learned more about Taylor, Caitlyn, and Diana in this book. Some of it is a little far-fetched, but it's fiction, and is still entertaining. I like how Mr. Wrann ties the story to works of "fiction" like "Dracula" and "Frankenstein." There is profanity (although not as much as in the first one), violence, gore, deaths of main characters, and some gruesome descriptions of those deaths. I would recommend it for college age and above. You may read my full review on my book blog: www.the-readathon.blogspot.com.
I did like From Out of Chaos, but not as much as I liked Dark Matter Heart. I didn't like that it was the good characters that caused the chaos and not the bad guys. It's one thing when you cannot control the bad things that happen to you, but its another thing when you cause them. I will definitely continue on with this series, because I want to see where it goes and I want to see how Cor and his friends are going to clean up the huge mess that was left behind in book 2.
First of all i'd like to say that in the course of reading this book I felt a nearly overwhelming urge to bang my head against a wall and scream "WHY THE HELL DID HE WRITE THAT!?!?!?"Lol. I completely enjoyed the book, the fact that it had so many twists and turns and I could not see what was around the corner unlike most books I have read was refreshing and fun. Just so you guys know I could not put this down I read it all in 1 sitting ... By no means is it short I just have to much free time. :)
The rebirth of several classics melded into one modern story. Frankenstein, Dacula, the Legend of Sleepy Hollow, are just the tip of the iceberg for this crew.
