Some things can’t be undone…

Peter Geary is not a criminal, he’s just a kid still, trying to care for his sister after their parents left them. One was taken by cancer, the other by cowardice. Now it’s just Peter, his girlfriend Christine, and his sister Marie. But on this night, in the middle of a savage snowstorm, Peter is standing in a fleabag motel room, holding a gun, threatening to shoot a man in the head. He needs this man, this Mr. Flashback. Without him, Peter can’t go back and stop Christine’s murderer. And he will do anything in his power to save her, no matter how many tries it takes. There are some things that can’t be undone. But when you possess a power like Mr. Flashback’s, there are some things that can be.

Loved it! It takes a talented writer to re-tell a story we've read before and seen in countless movies, yet leave the reader breathless. I'm developing quite the book nerd crush on this author!

This fascinating scifi/suspense story is a little like a cross between the book Replay and the movie Jumpers. Instead of jumping, we have mirrors--people who can pull someone back in time, allowing them to redo the past few hours. In the story, the main character, Peter, runs into one of these mirrors who is being used by a corrupt police officer. Peter then replays the day to try to undo the evil done by the officer.

Porter has come up an interesting idea, and has made sure to set limits on the idea and stick by those limits. (Unlike a certain Nicolas Cage movie--yeah, I'm looking at you "Next".) He also alludes to a backstory involving other mirrors and government officials, setting up the possibility for a sequel.

Not since The Time Traveller's wife have I been so engaged in the dilemma of time travel - handled here likewise uniquely and not so far gegraphically from the Chicago of the Time Traveller but a world apart at a ubiquitous intersction in Northern Indiana . Broken lives meet during a series of violent crimes with a surprising outcome that is Equal parts Cohen Brothers and American road trip. But, what the reader leaves the story with may be a surprise lesson learned abt what a sinkhole terminal disease can be for a household barely making ends meet or a glimpse at the depth of emotion that binds family members together even in awful circumstances.

I loved it. A truly fascinating Sci fI / suspense story. In stead of jumping or using a time machine to go back. We have mirrors - people who can pull you back in time, and allow you you to redo the past few hours. In the story Peter the main character runs into one of these mirrors who is being used by a corrupt police officer. Peter replays the day trying to undo the evil done by the officer. I look forward to reading more books by Son Porter
