Set on clearing her name and earning freedom from the oppression of religious worship and political mistrust, she decides to locate the powerful, missing holy relic that so many people have feared and revered in order to permanently disarm the Daray family line. AMAZING!

This is yet another great book in the series. It has lots of twists and turns and always keeps you wondering about everything. The only thing I didn't like about it was that it just ended the way it did. I had so many questions that weren't answered no matter how I thought about it. But, thankfully, fans kept inquiring about the ending, so she has since made more books for it. I'm super excited to get to reading the next one!

This third and final book of the Waldgrave trilogy continues to follow the inimitable Lena Collins as she struggles to find her own path, bound as she is by family and obligation. With the death of her grandfather in the previous novel, Lena and Griffin discovered that much they had held as incontrovertible truth was part of the old man’s comprehensive deception not only of the family, but the entire Silenti people. For the first time in her life, Lena finds herself on her own with only her wits to guide her, struggling to avoid capture and protecting that which has been entrusted to her. Finding a path through the convoluted history of her family, Lena struggles to find herself and save the lives of those she loves.

Already a fan of the series and of Tyler’s writing in general, I was very excited to pick up this third installment and see where Lena’s adventures led her next. She’s a heroine that we can all relate to – she is constantly trying to find the best path to follow, somewhere between wanting her own freedom and trying to live up to family and societal obligations. We follow her as she strives not to make the same mistakes as the other women in her family tree and tries to find solutions to complex problems that will save lives and allow a modicum of freedom for those she loves.

As ever, I was hooked from page one, unable to put the book down until I reached the conclusion. Tyler created such a complex web of characters and stories I had no idea how she would wrap them into a concluding novel, but she managed it with style and panache. This final volume feels complete and fulfilling, without answering all the readers questions and leaving space for additional stories in the future.

Tyler’s complex storyline is compelling and engaging, though I think this novel could have benefitted from a little recap of the earlier novels at the very beginning. I had to rack my brain a little to remember the characters from earlier novels and how their lives and stories intersected with Lena’s to better understand what was happening in this novel. I think either adding a “the story so far” section or adding a few more reminder details as these characters enter in this story would greatly benefit the reader, though it didn’t take away from my enjoyment of the story. I also grew to love some of the secondary characters and wished for more resolution of their stories before the novel ended –a certain degree of uncertainty enhances the story, but I found myself wishing for a few more details.

Tyler’s knack for weaving complex storylines full of compelling characters keeps the reader enthralled from start to finish. I can’t wait to see what she has in store for us in the future.

Secrets of the Guardian by A.L. Tyler is the third, and final book, in the Waldgrave series. Lena Collins has faced challenges and death, and hopes things can start settling down. However, things are only going to get worse. Her Grandfather is dead, and Griffin has left. Rollin and his group are targeting everyone in the Selenti community that is not with them, as against them and a viable target. Lena wants to clear her name, live a semi-normal life, and find the hidden answers about her family and the Selenti world as a whole. So how could a road trip with friends to reunite one family and discover her own end with Lena on the run with a baby?

Secrets of the Guardian is the perfect conclusion to a wonderful series. I would not have minded a little more of a re cap in the beginning of this book, but it did not take me long to get back into the story. Lena has grown as a character and a person through the series, and continues to mature her as well. Her concern for others might be a liability in her position, but it makes her a character that is relate-able. While Griffin does not have much screen time, he is just as arrogant in this book, but I am glad to say offered up some redeemable moments. Devin and other characters that have played significant roles in the past, are of course here as well, and most grow through the story as well. I really enjoyed seeing the full mystery of Lena's family unraveled, and a satisfying conclusion for all concerned, Although, I do hope that the epilogue lead to a spin off story.

I highly recommend Secrets of the Guardian to anyone that has like the previous two books. For those that have not, I suggest starting with Arrival of the Traveler and reading the entire trilogy in order. The mysteries are deep, the action high, and the characters feel very real.

Where the second book of the series "Deception of the Magician" started rather slowly, this third book (and hopefully not the last) starts as a page turner and maintains that throughout the book. Tyler has woven a very complex plot that, very much like Shrek's onion metaphor, has layers upon layers. As the reader turns each page we are met time and again with surprises and plot twaists that leave one almost breathless wondering how this will all get resolved. If there is an issue with this book (and this reader doesn't think so) it is that the end comes a bit abruptly. Still, I think Tyler does a masterful job with tying up loose ends and bringing the potential political and religious turmoil to an uneasy stalemate of a truce. Will it last? The epilogue is a teaser for what could perhaps (and I for one, hope) will be yet another book. The political and religious overtones of these books is quite complex and while the resolution may seem abrupt, I would suggest that as we view the history of religio-political conflict that it may also be entirely realistic. I enjoyed the characters and especially Lena, who is so well developed and who grows from a self-centered child to a mature, reasoning, compassionate adult who takes charge in the end, even over the belligerent Griffith. Tyler's character development is well done and she produces a well rounded story with good character development.

Fantastic reading.

I enjoyed all three books in this series. Hopefully there will be more to come. While the ending wasn't what I expected, I hope it left the door open for another book or more. Thank you for keeping me enthralled for 4 nights with these three.
