Just one word POETIC

One of best Book I read in recent times. Usual middle class family drama. But the characters and their psychological issues are written beautifully. We can feel them. Beautifully written like poem. Must read. Don't miss it.

Tharayil Irangum Vimaanangal is a novel that beautifully captures a young man’s coming to terms with the realities of life as against his idealistic vision of what life ought to be like.

Viswam is the second son of a middle class family that seems to be just one step away from poverty. A literary young man with an eye for the beauty of the trees and the stars, he must nonetheless come to grips with the fact that poetry will not keep the family fires burning.

How Viswam comes to terms with life (in a 1960s India with far fewer choices for most young people), and how he learns to seek happiness in the very ordinariness of life forms the novel. It is far less preachy than what this description may lead you to believe and the characters surprise you, even if some of them are a little unidimensional.

I liked Tharayil Irangum Vimaanangal particularly for its portrayal of the period and for its depiction of the deep affections between family members, often unsaid but nonetheless present.

a dark night, sound reaches in the ear of sleeping people the description of the scene of moving bullock cart carrying paddy hay in a village: night lamp shaking from left to right in the bottom of the cart, roaring rattling sound of wheel , bell sound from neck of the bullock. The curious observation of the writer bring forth the scene to the reader vision is so wonderful. I read it in my college days in 70s. Again i want to read. balasubramanian.

a light read of the yester years

I read this in Tamil. I still remember few events in the book. A warm afterglow remains after all these years.

A very interesting book.

Superb . I read this book twice. I may read for the third time. Simply realistic. Sometimes it reminds me of my youth days.
