Synopsis
Losing a cushy marketing job only to end up driving heavy equipment at the landfill would be a tough blow for most women.

But JJ Schultz isn’t most women, so she gamely swaps office politics and dry cleaning bills for a chance to crush garbage with a 150,000 pound machine. As it turns out, she doesn’t miss her old life too much…though her love life was sure a lot simpler when she didn’t wear a hardhat every day. Between her hot new co-workers and her on-again-off-again boyfriend, JJ has her hands full.

The drama kicks into high gear when JJ and her sister, Lori, find evidence of a counterfeit handbag operation – something local police deem only slightly more urgent than collecting fruit flies. JJ soon finds herself unraveling a sinister plot in the company of a tie-tugging accountant, a straight-to-video action hero turned secretary, a suspicious but sneaky-hot engineer, and a host of other characters with questionable hygiene and morals.

This is an Active Fiction title
"Active fiction" is a new type of e-reading experience that allows the reader and the author to interact with each other and the text in new and different ways.

In Getting Dumped, Tawna gives you one very simple choice point: Which guy should JJ call? Depending on your choice, you’ll get to know one of the guys a bit more intimately. Don’t be afraid to read all three versions–it’s for JJ’s own good, after all! And of course, feel free to re-read YOUR favorite over and over again. Tawna still isn't sure who JJ should end up with, so she's eager to see who her readers prefer. She sees the aggregate statistics on who gets picked the most, so the more you read, the more you influence what she writes.

I can't tell if it's appropriate to review this book yet because I don't think all of it is actually available yet. However, I've finished reading everything available so far (well...in one way), so I'll update when there's more.

I've read Tawna Fenske's blog for a year or so now, and despite the fact that I'd never actually read a romance novel before, I got her debut novel as soon as it came out because she (and her blog) is that funny. I loved it, so when this one came out, I bought it too. I was not disappointed; it was funny, sexy, and interesting--and I finished all of it (well, all that's out so far) in less than a day.

Because it's "active fiction" (sort of like Choose-Your-Own-Adventure, but for the Kindle), there's one major choice the reader gets to make--who JJ, the main character (a office girl who gets transferred to the dump and loves it), calls. So far, I've read it through only one of the three possible ways (I picked one guy; there are two others), but I will probably go back and read the other two ways while I wait for the next part!

Tawna Fenske makes me laugh--no matter what she's writing. But the cool thing, that makes her writing so entertaining, is that she has an eye for human behavior. She notices the humorous truth about people and she captures it on the page in a smart and sexy book. If it's written by Tawna, I'll happily read it and I suggest that you should do the same. *love*

PS--couldn't stop thinking about the pink dump truck and tool set I got me niece for Christmas *grin*

Getting back to one of my favorite fun/feel good authors, Tawna Fenske.
Unfortunately, I got this part one as a freebie years ago and didn't have the good sense to buy part 2 !
It's always light and funny, with a heroin that makes interesting and unconventional choices of career. On her new singular workplace, she meets 3 hot guys (lucky girl !) and then, the book gives us the choice of what is going to be next, like those old books in which you could choose the next adventure. Do you prefer the suspicious British, the movie hunk or the ex-not-so-ex ? Your choice !
Well, now that part 2 is no longer available, I'll have to get the entire book - and I will : Tawna Fenske always makes me laugh !

Getting Dumped was a cute read that was really fast paced. It had a big cheese factor to it, but was a lot of fun to read.

This was a book I enjoyed reading a lot. The plot was quirky, fun, and was one of those books that just made you smile once you got past the bit of cheesiness some of it brought to life.

The characters were a lot of fun, and the relationships between all of them were probably even more fun. Finishing the book, I still haven't gotten a lot of the characters figured out, so I am curious to see more of them in the next book. I did want JJ to just pick a guy - I felt like every two seconds she was with a new one. I loved Lori - I loved her quirks and just her good hearted nature. The employees from the dump were all great as well, they brought so much to the book.

My biggest issue with Getting Dumped was the ending. It's a major cliffhanger - but nothing was resolved in this book. I am very curious to see what happens next, but the ending had no conclusion.

Overall, Getting Dumped was a good read. I had a few issues, but the fact that I didn't want to put it down overcame those. I am very intrigued for the next installment, particularly since I didn't quite get the closure I was looking for. This is a great book for someone looking for a fast fun read.

Adversity is a stimulus. - James Broughton

JJ Schultz grabs adversity by the horns and crushes it with the county dump's heavy equipment she nicknamed Shirley. Indeed, JJ is stimulated, rather motivated, to make the best of her "repositioning" from the county's DA office to the county's dump yard. Tawna Fenske lets loose with this over the top, laugh out loud, make my day "novella" with an interactive option - readers can choose who JJ calls in her time of need. But all options lead back to the climatic cliffhanger. Yes, cliffhanger! The cliffhanger just adds to the outrageous storyline that worked for me.

Fenske delivers wacky characters (because they are beyond quirky) in this zany mystery (because it is funny than cozy) with a nod to social issues such as green initiatives. On the surface, the plot seems exaggerated but the characters swoop in with dry wit that makes it an enjoyable read. Despite it being a novella, the characters start with a defined footprint and reveal more about themselves as the mystery unfolds.

JJ is a confident heroine and her sister, Lori, makes a competent partner in crime, er, investigation into what stinks at the dump. I am eager to read Part II to see what's next for the Schultz Sisters.

Recommended read for those who enjoy pure escapism.

I liked this book better than Tawna's last one. Don't get me wrong, "Breaking Waves" was filled with interesting characters, and as far as I could tell, there was only one bad guy when there should have been more. Tawna does an excellent job of making her characters likable.
"Getting Dumped" reminds me of what the books "choose your own endings" would be like in the days of e-readers. There was only one option for me to choose in the character I initially chose. I could go back & see if I had more options had I chosen a different person. I won't know for a while because I have other stuff to read. But who can't love a woman who's pretty enough to wear nice clothing in her old marketing job, but loves to drive heavy machinery at the dump. I couldn't help but like JJ. Then add 3 different men, real intrigue & awareness of what fake purses do to developing country working conditions, & you have the mix for excellent food recipes! What? Did I say recipes? Part 1 has about 1/2 a dozen or so of them that I want to try. In other words, this book has a lot going on without feeling overcrowded. Tawna is excellent at keeping those plates spinning in the air & not losing one yet!

JJ Schultz swaps her marketing job for a job driving heavy equipment at a landfill. Her new job introduces her to a range of co-workers (some extremely sexy others not so much). The plot thickens when JJ finds “evidence” of a counterfeit handbag operation whilst driving her refuse crushing machine.

This is an extremely funny, humorous and thoroughly entertaining book that can easily be read in one day.

I loved the characters that Tawna created. Most of them are so over the top (but in a funny way :-).There is, for example, Burt (one of JJ’s co-workers at the landfill) with his low hygiene standards – yuck! or JJ herself, who turns up for work wearing a pink hard hat.

Getting Dumped is such an amusing and absorbing read. There are situations in the book that had me crying as I laughed so much.

As with several Coliloquy books, this book has some interactive content (which I really enjoy). This way the reader can get involved in the way the storyline progresses.

There is a real cliffhanger towards the end of the book. I cannot wait to find out where this leads to in Book 2.

Getting Dumped is the second "active fiction" book I've read from Coliloquy and I have to say I love the format. The choices I made as a reader were much more important here and reflective of my personal opinions on plot then they were in Witch's Brew. That being said, Fenske has given the reader three interesting leads to choose from:

Collin, the smexy Brit.

Pete, the protective movie star.

Daniel, the asshole ex.

Did I give away my feelings there? Probably. Fenske also writes a very accurate sister relationship. In fact, the plot line was new and compelling too--a job move from corporate to the dump. Who knew I could be so invested in that? There's a bit of good old Nancy Drew to the storyline as well.

None of this compares however to the major cliffhanger ending that could kill you. No seriously it could. I might be writing this from the afterlife.

Overall: A-

This is the first in a exciting new series by Tawna Fenske and Colilioquy. It's a re-invention of those choose your own adventure books you might have read as a child. Except now it's the grown up version. It's a great concept and the author has great fun with it.

In part one we meet the Schultz sisters, JJ and Lori. JJ who suddenly finds herself in a new job at the landfill and Lori who designs handbags.

But the fun really begins when the sisters discover what looks like a counterfeit handbag operation and since the cops show little interest in finding out who is behind it, they set out to do it themselves, sister power !

Add in JJ's new co-workers, nerdy Colin, ex movie star Pete and the rest of the crew and you get a story that will have you chuckling and diving for the next instalment

This is a choose-your-own adventure. Yup, just like the kind I loved as a kid. It was so much fun to decide what I wanted JJ to do next, and loved that I had the option to go back and "do over." I never did, but think I'll start the book again and make different choices.

The main character, JJ, is a hoot. She's smart, she's funny and she's talented. Love, love, love the fact that she loses her job in marketing and gets moved to the dump - and that it is the perfect job for her. So many possibilities for her in this position. Plus, there's something to be said for a character (especially female) who rolls with the punches, and who embraces her wants and needs and likes, regardless of appearances.

An excellent read if you like adventure, romance, mystery. Or if you just want to relive a bit of your childhood with a choose-your-own adventure.

Getting Dumped is a really fun and entertaining read that kept me laughing the whole way through. The good news is that it is short enough that you can read it all in one sitting, which is nice for a busy Mom like myself. This is a serialized book, so be prepared for the cliffhanger at the end. I have to say that I personally LOVED the way it ends and think the anticipation of what happens next is all a part of the fun. I just purchased Book #2 and can't wait to start reading. And for the record, I read all 3 pathways and will say...I am TEAM PETE all the way!!

I loved the voice and humor in this book. Fast paced with a bit of mystery and a trio of hunks the heroine couldn't choose between. I liked the unique twist of allowing the reader to choose which hero was at the door and how the story would proceed for that scene.

My only compliant is that I want a finished story when a book ends. I don't like being left hanging. I understand it's a great marketing strategy, but my personal preference is to have closure.

Getting Dumped is a super fun read, with a cool interactive feature that lets you choose which way the story goes. As if the trio of hot guys weren't enough, the book has an intriguing sub-plot, adding a thrilling element to the story. I read all three pathways in the same day!
