O Poder Da Mulher Que Ora

Rate this book

5 Stars...did you hear me? * * * * * Stars! I LOVED this book. I've read the Power of a Praying Wife before this and was expecting this book to be very similar. Now don't get me wrong, the Power of a Praying Wife is also a very good book, but this book, this book breaks the mold. It's so much more.

Stormie Omartian goes to the heart of the woman's soul and speaks to the very things that I think women all struggle with. This is probably the best supplemental book to the Bible that I have ever read.

I really don't know how else to praise this book. Get it! Get it! Get it! And then read it and read it again. I took this book slowly. My goal was to read this book one chapter per week in order to allow myself time to really soak up the information. My personal experience in doing it this way was that the exact thing I was struggling with and needed to read happened to come up in the exact week that I needed it. I can't say anything more about it. This book has transformed my prayer life. Seriously, check it out.

This book is all about learning to pray for yourself. The chapters are very short (only 3-4 pages each) and fairly quick to read, and each concludes with a prayer and Bible verses related to the topic. Ms. Omartian discussed topics that I had never thought to pray for myself for. I read this over the course of a month, but may reread it over a longer period of time in order to build each topic into my prayer time for a few days. I will definately come back to this book as it really has changed the way I pray for myself.

It is the best book a women can read, you usually pray for others but how can you take care of others when you are not taking care of yourself. It really spoke to me. God worked in me while I was reading it.

Mrs. Omartian's book of praying woman is excellent. It helps you to pray for yourself and for others. It teaches you and helps with words that you might've not known. I bought this book for my daughter. I would recommend this book especially for single women and of course married women. It also helped to realize that I don't need approval from a man but from God. It helped me realize my self-worth as a Christian woman. I wished I had read this book when I was single. Its a powerful book.

This is a re-read for about the 50th time for me. I usually just go through the prayers for each day but I took the time to read each chapter along with the prayer and am glad I did. For each day of the month, there's a chapter and prayer for a different topic. I love this book and the prayers so much because I feel like it keeps me from feeling overwhelmed by all the things I know I need to pray for. When I'm on track with reading one of the prayers each day, I feel like I hit all the bases within a month. Each prayer is powerful and there are several scripture references for each that are also provided within the chapter. This book was recommended to me about 6 years ago now, and it's the best book recommendation I've ever received. I highly recommend it!

*Listening to the audio CD version.

I loved chapter 7 so far about how to gain a closer relationship with God, and to spend more time with Him. I also liked when she shared on "jobs/occupations" and chapter 13 on holiness and purity.

I needed these friendly reminders. "Change me Lord prayers" is what I am seeking and working heavily on based on the calling that God foresees for my life.

What an incredibly encouraging read! So important to pray for ourselves as well as others. I have had a revelation reading this book that prayer unlocks everything God has for us. He wants to give it to us but we must first humble ourselves to ask.

This might be on my 'read' shelf but this book will become a way of life for me. I can't just read it and let it collect dust on the shelf.

Women of faith, you owe it to yourself to read this book! May God bless you...

Just like 'God's Word for the Single Believer' I don't really regard this as a book that i've 'read' but will perhaps continue to refer back to for the rest of my days. It was about at page 60/61 that I realised that the best way to read this book was not to read each chapter sequentially - instead this book requires life application, prayer and a heart that sincerely seeks change and spiritual growth through a closer walk with Jesus. To get the best out of this book (for me anyway), is to spend time in the relevant chapter at the point of need or spiritual prompting - pen and paper at the ready too! You see, there are so many areas of ones life that are covered in this book, and the neat little index is like a spiritual A-Z of areas where we all need spiritual refreshing, pruning or an outright overhaul! If you are already in a walk with God, you will hopefully be aware of areas in your life that God wants you to focus on, and commit to him in sincere prayer - as such, this book is a really good study aid and reference point. Apart from covering a broad range of development areas for your prayer life, it also contains some model prayers that you can work into your own prayer life as you diligently seek change and refreshing through the work of the Holy Spirit - and for added measure, each section also contains a reminder of some of God's promises relating to the topic in focus. An excellent book and guide, one which will not sit on my shelf and gather dust!

I appreciate Stormie's heart. I believe she's an anointed woman who clearly has the kind of wisdom that can only be granted by Holy Spirit, as a byproduct of tremendous pain. And, the Lord has used many of the words in this book to speak to me right when & where I needed to hear...

But I can't responsibly give more than 3 stars (ideally 2.5) to a book that tells readers to resist negative emotions as if they're Satan and God will remove them from you. That kind of wishful thinking stems from misinformation, ignorance, and has the ability to wreak a lot of unnecessary confusion and pain. I'm sure Stormie has experienced much healing, but there's still too much black-&-white thinking here for me.

I meet weekly with my women's group and we use this series. We go through one chapter at each meeting each week. Over the years, we have gone through 6 books already in the series and I really liked this one. I found it to be very refreshing, caused self-reflection, and enriched my spiritual journey. The book unfolds nuggets of gold for me every week when we meet. I use it like a diary, making notes on the side, highlighting certain parts and starring certain sections. Over the years, I have learned that Prayer is Powerful and my life is a testimony and evidence of such. One of the best devotionals with an easy layout/formatting with relevant scriptures.

This book (and others by her) came highly recommended to me by a trusted and respected friend, so I was quickly disappointed when I got into it.

I wouldn’t say that she said much (if anything) that was blatantly untrue, but Stormie uses several verses completely detached from their context. She also says a lot that is phrased very poorly and could easily lead an undiscerning reader to think she’s arguing for a name-it-and-claim-it type Christianity based on “manifesting” the power of God simply by “speaking it out loud.”

Not really very helpful or insightful. Potentially dangerous to a young and undiscerning believer.

This beautiful 31-day devotional is so powerful, I want to reread parts of it, especially those beautiful prayers Stormie Omartian wrote to inspire our prayer lives. I felt so blessed every time I sat down with this book. I'm very glad I read it.

I love the hardcover format of this book and wish all her similar books had the same ... it is hardcover but the cover is padded and soft and covered with paper. There's a ribbon marker attached. I've got another of her books in paperback and it is just plain in comparison. This one is a treasure.

As I read through this devotional I wondered if I'd read it before. Then by the end I realized the other book I read (and enjoyed) was 30 Days to Becoming a Woman of Prayer, published in 2013. I read it in 2016. This book, The Power of a Praying Woman was originally published in 2002. The topics are all different. I can recommend both books and I'm planning to read two more similar books: The Power of Praying for Your Adult Children and The Power of a Praying Grandparent.

Many thanks to the Sisters in Christ Book Club here on Goodreads for choosing this book for a group reading experience there.

Such an impactful and encouraging read. Stormie did such a fantastic job with this book. I have her other two books that I need to read (Praying Parent and Praying Wife), but this was great. I loved the Scriptures, the prayers, the points she made -- just truly inspiring and sparked my heart for deeper prayer for myself. Totally recommend!

Several years ago I had a realization that while being told to pray all of my life, my prayer life was indeed pitiful. At that point in my life I made a conscious effort to work on my prayer life and grow my intimate relationship with my God and Father. Stormie Omartian's books have helped me so much on my journey. The Power of a Praying Wife was the first book that I picked up by her and was impressed by the idea of spending time in focused prayer on one topic. Up until this point, I'd always tried to cover EVERY topic in every prayer, but The Power of a Praying Wife taught me this wasn't the correct path to pursuing a deeper and more intimate relationship with my God, but instead showed me that I had a checklist mentality and just needed to check off every area that needed to be covered in prayer.

After reading The Power of a Praying Wife, I read The Power of a Praying Woman for the first time, and this book blew me away. Stormie Omartian covered so many topics and focused areas in my life in need of prayer that I didn't even realize were in such desperate need. You can find a table of contents online, but I wanted to share the chapter topics here with you now just to illustrate all the areas that she concentrates on: Lord, Draw Me into a Closer Walk with You; Lord, Cleanse Me and Make My Heart Right Before You; Lord, Help Me to Be a Forgiving Person; Lord, Teach Me to Walk in Obedience to Your Ways; Lord, Strengthen Me to Stand Against the Enemy; Lord, Show Me How to Take Control of My Mind; Lord, Rule Me in Every Area of My Life; Lord, Take Me Deeper in Your Word; Lord, Instruct Me as I Put My Life in Right Order; Lord, Prepare Me to Be a True Worshiper; Lord, Bless Me in the Work I Do; Lord, Plant Me so I Will Bear the Fruit of Your Spirit; Lord, Preserve Me in Purity and Holiness; Lord, Move Me into the Purpose for Which I Was Created; Lord, Guide Me in All My Relationships; Lord, Keep Me in the Center of Your Will; Lord, Give Me Wisdom to Make Right Decisions; Lord, Deliver Me from Every Evil Work; Lord, Set Me Free from Negative Emotions; Lord, Comfort Me in Times of Trouble; Lord, Enable Me to Resist the Temptation to Sin; Lord, Heal Me and Help Me Care for My Body; Lord, Free Me from Ungodly Fear; Lord, Train Me to Speak Only Words That Bring Life; Lord, Transform Me into a Woman of Mountain Moving Faith; Lord, Change Me into the Likeness of Christ; Lord, Remind Me That My Greatest Need Is Always for More of You; Lord, Lift Me out of My Past; Lord, Lead Me into the Future You Have For Me.

You guys, I highlighted so much in this book. At least every chapter held some gem that corrected some of my thinking, showed me a new insight, or was some other kind of "gold nugget" as my dad would say. Stormie Omartian says that the "deep and intimate relationship with God that we all desire and can't live without doesn't just happen. It must be sought after, prayed for, nurtured, and treasured. And we must continually seek after, pray for, nurture, and treasure it." This is so true. While I've read this book before and many of it's truths have stuck with me, I've found myself re-invigorated and refreshed in my purpose, in my life, and in my soul because of this re-read. This is definitely going to be a book that I continually come back to throughout my life.

I cannot recommend The Power of a Praying Woman by Stormie Omartian enough. It is by far my favorite book that I've read by her, as well as my favorite book on prayer outside of the Bible. My original rate of 5 Stars definitely still stands. If you're looking for a spark to help you start your prayer life and your relationship with God, or you're looking for a rekindling, this is the book for you! Happy reading!

Have you already read The Power of a Praying Woman? What did you think? Let me know!

The Lord knows I love books, and over the years He’s lead me to ones that will enrich my life. I found The Power Of A Praying Woman in a thrift shop. To my amazement the book was written nearly twenty years ago, and is still impacting the lives of women today. I know it certainly impacted mine.

Stormie Omartian is one of my favorite Christian authors. Her books are filled with inspiration and encouragement, and I love how she shares her own life’s experiences in an effort to help her readers overcome their own life’s struggles.

The Power Of The Praying Woman begins with the chapter titled, Power, and within the first paragraph she makes the following statement: “If you are a woman, this book is for you.” Further in the chapter she asked the question, “Do you find it easier to pray for other people than it is to pray for yourself.” I must admit there are times when this is true.

The book is broken down into 30 short chapters, that end with My Prayer to God, and God’s Promises To Me that include Scripture promises that are relevant to what’s shared in the chapter. I chose to read the book over a 31-day period which worked well for me.

All the chapters gave me insight as to how I can effectively pray for myself. But the ones below really spoke to my heart:

Lord, Cleanse Me and Make My Heart Right Before You
Lord, Bless Me in the Work I Do
Lord, Move Me Into the Purpose for Which I Was Created
Lord, Keep Me in the Center of Your Will
Lord, Transform Me into a Woman of Mountain-Moving Faith
Lord, Life Me Out of My Past
Lord, Lead Me into the Future You Have for Me

I wish I had come across this book years ago. Yet; the messages within are timeless, as they are based on God’s Word and Promises. This book will be added to my Faith Library; I will refer back to it again when I need guidance on how to pray for myself in a given situation.

The Power of a Praying Woman enables readers to draw closer to God, as they discover how to pray for themselves and have their prayers answered. I encourage you to read this book for yourself. You will be greatly blessed!

Quotes from this book:
“We will never be happy until we make God the source of our fulfillment and the answer to our longings. He is the only one who should have power over our souls.”
“It's not about finding ways to avoid God's judgment and feeling like a failure if you don't do everything perfectly. It's about fully experiencing God's love and letting it perfect you. It's not about being somebody you are not. It's about becoming who you really are.”

Chapter 14 titled Lord, move me into the purpose for which I was created (the chapter title alone is a good prayer)
Excerpt: “Each one of us has a purpose in the Lord. But many of us don’t realize that. And when we don’t have an accurate understanding of our identity, we either strive to be like someone else or something we’re not. We compare ourselves to others and feel as though we always fall short. When we don’t become who we think we’re supposed to be, it makes us critical of ourselves and our lives. It causes us to be insecure, oversensitive, judgmental, frustrated, and unfulfilled. We become self-absorbed, constantly having to think about ourselves and what we should be. It forces us to try too hard to make life happen the way we think it is supposed to. In the extreme, it makes us tell lies about ourselves and become dishonest about who we really are. When you are around people who don’t have any idea of what they are called to do, you sense their unrest, unfulfillment, anxiety, and lack of peace.
God doesn’t want that for you. He wants you to have a clear vision for your life. He wants to reveal to you what your gifts and talents are and show you how to best develop them and use them for His glory.”
“It doesn’t seem fair that insecurity is sin. That’s like hitting someone when they are down. But insecurity is a lack of faith, and a lack of faith is sin, because it signifies a lack of trust in God.”

I thought the first half was better than the second half. I loved that Omartian did nearly always point readers back to God, avoiding the self-help trap.

This was a very convicting, challenging read that I would recommend, with a few caveats:

- There are Bible verses at the end of each chapter and I do think a few of them were taken out of context, though not necessarily enough to be super dangerous.

- There was also a note specifically to single women in chapter 29 that appeared to say if you just love Jesus enough and put Him first, and keep praying, He'll give you all your desires (including a husband). I don't believe the idea that all married women must have been putting God first and single women are somehow lacking in spiritual maturity. While the rest of the chapter makes it clear that married women also must put God first in their lives, this aside to singles made me cringe - I think it's a dangerous, damaging message.
