I loved living in Europe with all its history: the ancient ruins of castles and Roman villas, seeing actual dungeons and gladiator arenas, and eating Roman food. Imagine the stories all those places could tell. When I was a girl, I'd dream up stories and play them out in my mind. To start I can say I loved it and it was painful to put it down. I had no idea what I was getting into when I was frustrated the other night, wanting to finish another book but needing to read something on my Kindle to keep the dark in the room so others could sleep and chose this one. I've been meaning to read it, I've just been carried away with other things, but I had no idea on what I was missing out on. This book rocked my heart and soul.
Sandi Rog is completely new to me, but you better believe I'm going to check her backlist and look for more in the future from her pen and keyboard. Oh my goodness what a way to write a story! Walks Alone is the Indian name given to our heroine and it brings out so many more deeper level issues than just a name and just a physical sense. Walks Alone is a story about your life and interaction with others on a day to day scale, but also in the long haul. It is about your relationship with Christ, but also you relationship with your spouse.
Descriptions bring the sights and sounds to life right out of the text. I kept thinking in my mind toward a Sully/Michaela type of situation, but our Jean Marc is so much more than that. This book deals with a difficult smear on our American history's past, but it's a story that should be told. The manner in which it is told shares different views and it is amazing relevant to situations carried over even in today's time. Sandi Rog is a vivid storyteller and I'm completely enchanted yet again by the things coming from WhiteFire Publishing.

What an incredible, heart-felt novel! Rich with Native American culture, intrigue, and romance, Walks Alone held me captive to the end. So many desperate choices necessary for survival had to be made, but the things the hero and heroine feared most also made them stronger in the end. The variety of emotions they experienced and the developing love between them compelled me to read on, and more than that, they caused my eyes to well with tears a number of times. I felt the characters' pain and sensed their relief as their many trials made them stronger once they realized they were not alone, but that God was with them all along.
Walks Alone contains a lot of realism and spiritual depth, which made me think more about my own faith. Most of all, this is a story of unconditional love and finding true freedom in Christ. He wants us to come to Him because we love Him, not because we were forced. This novel is a beautiful portrayal of Gods love for us and shows us why He gives us the freedom to choose. My heart hurts upon finishing this novel. Walks Alone definitely lived up to all the hype it received. Sandi Rog did such an excellent job developing the plot. After reading Laura Frantz's books, The Frontiersman's Daughter and Courting Morrow Little, I've come to appreciate the role of Indians in the books I read. I loved White Eagle/Jean-Marc... I actually thought about the Last of the Mohicans before I began reading this book. To my surprise, the Last of the Mohicans was referenced in Walks Alone. It was easy for me to have a visual of White Eagle's character because I pictured Daniel Day-Lewis as Hawkeye/Nathaniel. I loved how Sandi tied in the title of the book with Anna and White Eagle's personal battles. I loved the message of never being alone and that God is always with us.

LOVED, LOVED, LOVED this book. It is definitely my new favorite! Native American culture has always intrigued me and this was one of the best if not THE best I've ever read. I honestly didn't want it to end.

It’s always a struggle to know whether to rate a book by the content… OR its ability to completely entrap you into its folds and not let you put it down until you’ve read every last entrancingly delicious page. Because that’s what happened to me. I finished this book days ago, yet the characters are still wrapped up in my mind, pulling me back into their world.
The story started out strong, I was completely immersed. But then the next 15% I lost interest. The heroine was more whiny than I anticipated and the characters surrounding her felt rushed and flat.
But you guys.
I don’t know what happened.
Things started to pick up and I fell in looove.
There were still things I didn’t appreciate and seemed a tad unrealistic. I would have liked to see more foundation on Anna and Beth’s friendship along with Anna and her adopted parents. Especially that! There were a lot of scenes where I felt like the full potential was shunned. The book in and of itself could have been a mite longer. It would have enriched the story. Anna could have definitely been more developed, but she stabilized along the way and White Eagle made up for her lack.
Speaking of Anna and White Eagle…
In my opinion there were also many scenes or instances when there was SO much potential but instead the book simply jumped to a different scene. But, apart from that, I absolutely adooored them. Well, him. *Clears throat* White Eagle. I am in love with him. Anywayyyyyyy.
It had a beautiful message that really hit home—no pun intended (you’ll just have to read the book if you wanna know what I mean by that)
The themes of contentment and joy no matter the circumstance, were expertly woven in.
All that to say, despite my complaints, I loved it. It made me laugh, it made me shout at the characters, demanding they do this or that, though they didn’t really listen of course. I was completely ensnared. Completely devoted.

WALKS ALONE captivated and mesmerized me at times. No wonder it won in the Grace Award 2012 Action-Adventure/Western/Epic Fiction category.
This is a well-written epic novel beginning in Holland and ending in the old west. Loved the way it opened with the tenderness of Anna's widowed father aboard ship. It was hard not to get involved in the father's dream of traveling to Denver City with seven-year-old Anna to start a new life. Unfortunately, Anna's father falls ill in New York City and passes away and she is left in the care her father's brother for six terrible years. The scenes with Anna's abusive uncle were brutal and fully engaging. After Anna escapes her uncle, she travels westward by train, and finally joins a wagon train where she's not well treated. There is a fascinating, though not explicit, bathing scene in a river, where an exhausted Anna allows herself to relax and find relief from the intense and life threatening heat of the prairie.
When half-breed Jean-Marc comes upon her with a small band of angry-braves, the reader is caught between instant knowledge of the hero's strong attraction to her and the extreme danger she's in and is hooked. Anna is taken by this brave's strange blue-green eyes and can't help wondering how it is that he speaks English better than she does. Ms. Rog understands Native American life in that era quite well. I appreciated her attention to the details of Cheyenne tribal life. She did an excellent job of showing the anger and murderous rage of the braves as well as the prejudice of the settlers and their inability to see Native Americans as people, which led to Indian massacres.
Both Anna/Walks Alone and Jean Marc/White Eagle are flawed and well written. White Eagle's poetic declaration of how his love is so large and encompassing that he sees and hears Walks Alone everywhere, even in the wind, was superb. He tells her of his pain at having caught her engaging in conversation with his sworn enemy, the man who led the deadly raid against his tribe. Through this, the author conveys how painful it is for Father God to witness His children engaging with idols. Beautifully done. Touches the reader at a deep spiritual level.
My only problem was with Anna's continued insistence on finding herself and her pulling away from White Eagle after their Native American marriage is consummated and then again after his poetic declaration of love. I'm not sure such personal enlightenment was high on the list in those days. However, the author did manage to sweep me back into the story. Then the story would move on and carry me through thrilling bandit attacks, chilling raids on White Eagle's tribe by a rogue Cheyenne warrior and his band of braves. A fantastic read, which I highly recommend.

This is a Christian romance that tells the story of Ana and Jean-Marc (White Eagle). White Eagle's mother is an Indian and his father a white man. Ana comes to America with her father from Holland. During the very long prologue, White Eagle's mother and grandmother are killed during an attack on their village and Ana's father dies. She then is forced to live with an abusive Uncle. The premise for this book is very interesting, but that is where the interesting part ends. The author does not give clear descriptions of very important elements to the characters, setting, and plot. Ana is 16 when she meet White Eagle, I think. I never really understood how old either of the main characters were. The cloudy plot was a huge disapointment. Ana is determined to go to Denver City to fulfill her father's dream, but what specific dream did he have??? There were so many holes in this book. The author had potential for a fantastic love story, but lost me with the lack of description. I often found myself confused as to the setting of the scene. Also, the character traits were back and forth. White Eagle was first depicted as a strong Indian warrior, but then promises Ana all the dresses she wants if she stays with him. Then there are the supporting characters. None were supportive. They seemed to have connections with the main characters, but nothing grew from it. There was little forshadowing which created very little drama. This was a clean romance, but not an enjoyable read. There were too many elements lacking.

Ok, this book rocked my world. My favorite book I have read this year. It is totally in my top 5. I really like the whole story line. When reading the preview I thought it was going to be just a fun read. I mean its just about Indians right? WRONG! I thought it was just going to be another cheesy romance book (which there is nothing wrong with those) but this book was really exciting and I was NEVER bored with it. I was on the edge of my seat at one point and crying the next. I read it in like 32 hours. It was that good.

It’s been a long time since I’ve read a book that I really had a hard time putting down. This one had me grinning the whole time. So many cute scenes/moments between the characters! GAH!! It made me realize how so many books now seem to skip those cute interactions and go straight from obsessive thoughts to passionately kissing 🤷🏻♀️ This book has what those are missing! It was so fun, and we get to see the characters fall for each other and enjoy one another’s company. And then just when you think everything is resolving and you realize you still have a ways to go…it takes a turn you aren’t expecting!
I admit I got pretty frustrated with Anna toward the last third or so of the book, but then I remembered her age and that explained a lot. *Such* a cute story. I wish I could read it for the first time again!

I was captured by the heart and realism of this book. It read so much like a movie to me that I could vividly imagine every scene in my minds eye, disabling me from putting this book down for long. The heroine of the story had me rolling my eyes and annoyed many times at the choices she made, and more than once I would peek over the edge of my book and declare to my sister “He’s too good for her!” But I also sympathized with Anna, because everyone makes mistakes and stumbles a little before they allow someone to catch them. This book did not disappoint and was a thoroughly enjoyable story of forbearance and trusting in God’s timing.

The book was quite interesting from the historical viewpoint. It contained enough action and romance. However, the story about the ownership of the hotel in Denver seemed to me highly unrealistic. Besides, it remained unclear how Anna's boss had become so well acquainted with Jean-Marc and the ending happened to be too rash and sudden.
The message about God and His plans for every person was employed in the book in a very delicate and wise manner.

This is another page turner from Sandi Rog. The story line keeps you wanting to turn the page until you get to the end. All of her books have been very moving. But they are like the books like your mother use to read. These are clean and you feel like you are part of the book.

Interesting idea for a story, and the author included historical facts and descriptions of the Cheyenne way of life. Unfortunately, it was simply poorly written and I strongly disliked Anna. I feel as though all the ideas were there for a great novel, but it was badly executed.

I really enjoyed this novel! It was my first read from Sandi. A friend introduced me to the book and I’m so glad she did. I’ll definitely be reading other books by this author.

White Eagle might have been an Indian, or a Savage, according to Anna, but he was a gentleman even when she lashed out at him, fighting for her freedom. I couldn’t help but fall in love with him, and couldn’t wait to see where this unlikely couple would end up.
If you are looking for a historical romance where different cultures clash, nonstop action and lots of twists and turns, then you’ll want to read WALKS ALONE. You won’t be able to put it down. Great book. $14.99.

I loved Walks Alone by Sandi Rog immensely, I would give it four and a half stars if I could. I am so glad that Christian authors and publishers are finally dipping their feet into the waters of Indian/White love stories. When I was a teen I read through the Love Comes Softly books and was so disgusted with the author for nixing a budding love between a young white man and an Indian girl he had met in a berry patch, and justifying it with practical but nevertheless horrible counsel, at least to this starry-eyed reader.
Now, the reason this wasn't quite a five star for me was because the hero was not all Cheyenne, he had connections that took the story in a direction I personally do not find interesting, HOWEVER... the ending was just what I could have wished, hero's place was clearly with his people and that is where heroine gets her happily ever after. This is what sets this book even above Courting Morrow Little, which I loved.
Relative quibbles: Anna, being only sixteen, was obstinately unable to see where she belonged, and while my heart broke for White Eagle, which was good storytelling, I felt like doing violence to Anna, which is not good since I am supposed to identify with her.
There are a few editing problems that crop up now and then in the kindle edition that I hope will be fixed for the paper edition I plan to buy.
That too small image on the cover of White Eagle looks exactly like the one on J.M. Hochstetler's book Wind of the Spirit, I mean just reversed with dark hair! More White Eagle and much less Anna on that breathtaking backdrop would be better.
I wish we could be given more than half a sentence when White Eagle and Anna consummate their marriage, especially given the personal nature of at least two conversations between them.

Author Sandi Rog has a way of sweeping me away on a romantic dream with her novels. But I have to admit I love ‘Walks Alone’ the best. Call me a romantic fool, but there’s just something about a young woman travelling out west to live her father’s dream, and she gets captured by Cheyenne warriors. It’s the summertime in Colorado, there’s sunshine, the beauty of the Rockies, a pristine lake, and a village of gentle Cheyenne with all their fascinating culture of teepees, soft buckskin, and turquoise artistry. And a Cheyenne warrior who is so much more than he seems, and who takes your breath away.
Place two people into this setting, who from page one you them want to be together, and a seemingly impossible love blossoms.
Add to this, the amazing way that the author weaves a story of Christian love for the one true God within those pages, and you have a breath-taking Christian Historical Romance.
The author has drawn two characters that simply leap from the pages. I loved both Anna and White Eagle immediately and their warm and complex characters wouldn’t let me put the book down. I had to read the entire book in one sitting.

Last year as I composed my favorite book list, I so wanted to include Walks Alone by Sandi Rog. One tiny problem. It hadn't been released yet. But now it's available for ebooks, and this is definitely one you'll want to get your hands on A.S.A.P. From the gorgeous cover, to the hot Indian hero, to the thrilling romantic storyline, to the emotional and spiritual depth, this book has it all. When I finished this novel the very rare thought, "I wish I wrote that," went through my head. Which pretty much puts Sandi up there with Francine Rivers, Lisa Samson, and Roseanna White in my book. And I will also tell you that when I got to the scene where Anna was bathing near the waterfall while White Eagle stood by ready to capture her, I was 100% sold on this book :)

I loved this book. I've always been a fan of western/Native American tales, but this one had a new take on the difficulties of interpersonal relationships/romance between a white woman and an Native American man. I loved following White Eagle's search for faith and truth, and Anna's search for love and trust--in her God and in her own heart. Through the many twists and turns of this novel, the reader gets a true sense of time/history and the demands and expectations put on women in the time and the difficulties growing up as a mixed race in a time of turmoil. This is a wonderful story, heavily researched to give a true taste of reality and a sense of place.

I spent the better part of Walks Alone cringing in embarrassment.
There was so much about this book that I didn't like, I don't even know where to begin.
Anna was painfully immature, and I couldn't stand her relationship with White Eagle.
There also wasn't really anything Christian about this book, other than the Bible Anna owns, that White Eagle kept snatching when she wasn't looking.
I don't really know what it was that put me off, but in the end it felt extremely underwhelming, and didn't live up to my expectations.

I really enjoyed Walks Alone. It is a religious historical fiction, and Sandi Rog does a good job of maintaining a balance- while religion plays an important role in the story, the plot doesn't suffer as a result (as with some other religious historical fiction I have read). I hope to see more from this author in the future!

An interesting book. The author creates characters that are interesting and likeable. The dialog moves along naturally. At times her vernacular is too modern using terms like "upside the head" twice (which is nearly unforgivable once). It is a charming love story, light on the preaching (for an inspirational romance) and a run read. The plot stretches and wanders a bit and the story takes in too much territory at times, but it is a nice light read for vacation or a rainy day.

What a feast of adventure, spiritual, educational and romantic. Well done ! Only one typo. God is always with us and a great reminder throughout Anna's trials. The hero is filled with qualities that you want in a husband. Setting, plot dialog all believable, entertaining and I know this will be read and retread for my pleasure. Clean read. Hope the author writes more books with this same setting. Thank you for the journey !

An interesting book about an Indian, White Eagle, and a Dutch Woman, Anna. So good, right to the end. I didn't want to stop reading. The escapades of Anna and White Eagle kept me riveted to the book. Vern entertaining.

I bought this for $3.00 for the kindle. The writing is superb and I was surprised that I have never seen a book by this author before. Totally worth the read and great story. Loved the main guy character!!!! It has indians and I love it!
