When Melanie Swift’s freedom is taken away from her and she is forced into the world of sex trafficking, she reacts the only way she knows how – to fight for her survival.
Melanie Swift befriends another young girl caught in the web of sexual slavery and takes her under her wing. She continuously plans their escape, always finding new ways around inevitable obstacles. However, when she is taken away from her only companion her fuse burns out and she starts to embrace this world.
Just when Melanie is enjoying her life of luxury as a call girl, serendipity causes her to cross paths with her lost friend. Together they undertake the task of redemption for the other girls who are still enslaved.
Their mission puts them on a collision course with DS Fontaine, who senses signs of police foul play whilst searching for her missing niece. They form an unlikely alliance in the fight against trafficking and corruption.
Melanie does not only have to deal with the dangers of working against ruthless criminals, but also a family betrayal that may push her over the edge. In a world filled with sex, money and power can Melanie prevent her identity being lost and finally break free from the shackles that not only imprison her body but her mind.
Born and raised in the South West of England, Hardit Singh rediscovered his love for reading whilst studying at University and this sparked his desire to write.
He believes that the most important aspect of a book is character and often this is ultimately what the reader will think about after closing a book.
Hardit Singh is an author of crime fiction and it is the power that stories harness, where mere words can create inspiration and empower an individual, which is what compels him to write.
This is a fantastic book but it is certainly not for the faint hearted.
Melanie is abducted by a man who has been grooming her and she finds herself in the lowest of the low brothels.
Melanie is held prisoner here with absolutely no chance of escape, the descriptions in the book are very graphic and stomach churning, I personally thought it added to the darkness of the setting, however, not everybody may be able to stomach it.
The initiation provided by part of the sex trafficking gangs are truly disturbing and the sad thing is you realise that these kind of things happen in real life. It certainly raises awareness to this horrific trade and opened my eyes to this underworld.
I do not want to give too much away but the most horrifying part of the book for me was the part where Melanie has her first client in the dungeon, I was crying and felt physically sick whilst reading it. This I felt added to the powerful, dark storyline and I came to the opinion if this kind of world is to be exposed then you may as well have the full story.
I enjoyed the way the book was written in two parts and thought the second part was as equally well written as the first part. I thought the police characters were well developed and this could pave the way for a series around the characters of Fontaine and Lee.
I particularly liked the way the author described everything in so much detail, the settings, the clothes, and even the scents. I felt truly immersed into this world.
The ending of the book was jaw dropping and it makes me sad to think that these things happen in real life.
There were parts of this book that almost felt like a documentary rather than a non fiction story, with this in mind I will definitely be reading more of the author's work.
Strong 4 stars from me, very highly recommended.

Traffic is a very well researched, strongly written story involving the underworld of sex trafficking. The story is divided in two parts, in the first one we see Melanie's day to day life inside a brothel were she is forced to prostitute herself.
While this is not an erotic story, it is very graphic and disturbing. The reader will get a first hand account of the brutality and what women go through in this type of situations; at least in my case I've been looking at massage parlors in a whole new way.
As the story progressed Melanie went through a constant struggle to maintain her inner strength while she was surrounded with all kinds of women, some who fought, others that just gave in. I liked the fact that Melanie was not a foolish girl, though she did get herself in trouble with dreams of modeling, fame and fortune, she remained with a good head on her shoulders.
I found the story to have a good balance, as soon as I thought the sex scenes were too many, the story had a fast forward and a whole new world opened with the introduction of Fontaine and Lee, two detectives who kick-ass!
The second part of the story involved detective work, as Fontaine became involved in helping Melanie, she had to continue with her job solving crimes and slowly discovering how deep the sex trafficking roots were, even within the police department. I liked Fontaine and Lee and hope to see them again in another book.
This story will give strong reactions, I literally felt that the world brightened when I started reading the second part of the book. I also liked the British feel of the book with the description of British cities and life, and even a mention of Old Trafford...Yay! This is the type of story that will not only entertain (with a surprise ending), but will also open your eyes, make you think and shudder.
