The story is centred around a cute android who initially had a happy life with her master who dearly loved her. But she was then struck by a series of misfortunes and ended up in a robot-equivalent of concentration camp. Through experiencing and witnessing the sufferings towards herself as well as the people/robots around her, she eventually gained a better appreciation of life.
Iris on Rainy Days was quite a read. It is a soft sci-fi about, well, robot, and addresses robot-related issues such as relationship with human and the reason they are created. However, one interesting thing is that it also addresses existential matters.
The plot line was nice. There was almost no virtually useless scene; most--if not all--of the scenes either advanced the plot or enhanced characters. The pacing and placement of the conflicts were well-done too (as can be seen in how the cliffhangers were positioned). Not only the frequency, but also the quality of the conflicts was written nicely. The plot also run smoothly; I like how the story progressed so vividly, in which And the inclusion of the side-story (Third-Rate Demon God Visa Darke) did not make the story go places; instead, it signified the whole story.
The casts were exceptional too. I mean, each character had his/her own characteristics (the cheerful and pesky Lilith & the big and obedient Volkov). And although the meeting happened in a common way, it was interesting to see how the separations took place. And the emotional scenes...they were very evoking. In fact, I think these scenes are one of the backbones of this story.
The drawback of this book is that the sudden appearance of a character at the rear part who is not known before, while shifting the first PoV to the third PoV. Apart from that, it's a great book.
I found it really uninteresting at first sight due to the sexualized start, but it quickly went to another perspective. Indeed it feels more like reading from the perspective of an 15-year-old girl than a robot at times, but the main focus of this story is not her age nor her gender. What I got from this book is the message of struggle, not sure if I should consider this book too deep but I have found it interesting at some points. For example we have the struggle of being a replaceable unit that is destroyed as soon as something is off. After it we have the message of bonding and protecting what actually is important. Of course we could predict the ending from the start of the story, but that doesn't mean that this wasn't an enjoyable one.

"Iris, saya sayangkan awak" - Wendy Von Umbrella
Hinggalah suatu tragedi buruk menimpa.
Hidup Iris berubah.

My familiarity with light novels is pretty shallow as I have read a tiny portion of them, but my opinion has been generally low, because of very simple styles of writing which are usually on the verge of a middle school student's level of writing. This case is no exception.
I started with some expectations, but the first part of the book was mild torture to me. I was waiting for a robot and its misfortunes and what I read was a lesbian robot's crush and for a high end technology, the thought process (as this is narrated by Iris, the robot) was seriously that of a child. I wasn't attracted to the story nor the writing, but after I reached the middle of the book, I finally started caring about the characters and what they went through. Through this basic narration, it showcased the burden of being a robot, although that happened mainly because the book heavily focuses on robots acting like humans with a conscience. So seeing some robots getting hurt against their will, it's just sad. The story also depicted a beautiful friendship and how much they value life. The ending did seem a bit abrupt to me, but at least I enjoyed the dramatic parts a lot. There is also a side story, that makes a bit more sense.
Character-wise, I didn't care about Iris most of the time. She wasn't unlikable, but I couldn't really relate as much as her 2 later friends, Lillith and Volkov who had their share of human mistreatment and wanted the best for each other. The trio, and especially the duo, really showcased what friendship is and how far one can go to reach their goal. Iris had her own moments too.
I understand that light novels are by definition light, so I don't expect anything hard or really deep to read, but does the writing need to leave such a low impression? Either way, I enjoyed the second half of the book a lot more than the first and it's definitely an easy read that can make you shed a few tears here and there.
Finished this is a single seating… it’s really short and tho it felt weird at the first because these robots actually have feelings or have somehow grown to have learnt how to feel just like humans do
All the pain that they go through is just like how other humans do yet at some parts they too aren’t able to comprehend what kind of feeling are those just like how humans sometimes can’t decipher what is the odd feeling that they are feeling…
The death was too fast and too easily brushed off but the journey was everything else…
It started promising ended okayish, I don't really recommend it.
edit: on further thoughts 1/5 this really disappointed me just read planatarian VN instead it's like the same thing but a lot better actually it's so much better it's not even close to the same thing.
I loved this book. I wasn't expecting much, as light novels have a tendency to be very bad, but this one was a nice surprise. It isn't mind-blowing, but it is a nice break from the typical over-sexualised romantic ln's.
I don't feel like reading from a robot view point at all. It's more like reading from a point of view of a sheltered teenage girl in love with a mechanic body.
