Who was Jack the Ripper?
Did Hitler commit suicide, or did he survive the war?
Who really shot JFK?
Did OJ Simpson really do it?

28 January 2018. Post-Obama, Colonel Lance Tucker is Commander of the next generation X-33 space shuttle Intrepid. Its latest mission to the International Space Station ends in calamity and tragedy, when a meteor shower strikes.

General Jack Nelson orders Lance to use a secret flying saucer at Area 51, to travel back in time and change history. An imprisoned alien navigator offers assistance in exchange for his freedom, but a slip of the tongue diverts the journey to 1888 London, 1945 Berlin, 1963 Dallas, and 1994 Los Angeles.

En route to try and save the ISS, Lance cannot resist the challenge of solving the greatest mysteries of the modern world. Who was really Jack the Ripper? Did Hitler commit suicide, or did he somehow escape the wrath of the Allies? Who really shot President John F. Kennedy? And did O.J. Simpson really do it?

But as Lance closes on the space station, does the alien navigator have a secret agenda? The shocking revelations continue to the very end....

I could review this book, but why bother when the writing speaks for itself:

Jolly Irish civilian Alex O’Donaghue was a valuable import from the European Space Agency. The Flight Engineer was 28 years of age. He was generously built at five foot nine inches tall, but maintained an athletic appearance.

Civilian and Mission Specialist Mark Whitbread was 40 years old, and showed medium build at five foot seven inches tall. Dependable and reliable, Mark was a constant source of support. His approach was action centred. He believed in completing tasks, rather than talking about them.

At 44 years of age, with wire-thin build, civilian and Mission Specialist Nigel Martin was a completely different kettle of fish. Naturally opinionated and outspoken, you would have thought Mark worked under him, but the two men shared equal status. Nigel could be rather difficult at times, but was very good at his job.

There were kids in my high school creative writing class that had a better grasp of characterization than this. Seriously, telling us that this character is dependable, and that jolly instead of showing them being dependable and jolly? Have we lived and fought in vain?

Lance’s eyes narrowed almost menacingly, and his cheekbones swelled, when he heard or saw something he didn’t like.

His cheekbones swelled? Whiskey tango foxtrot, over? And isn't it enough that the guy's eyes narrowed, ya gotta have an adverb flappin' around uselessly like a eunuch's wang. And a qualified adverb, the worst kind -- what in the name of Jesus, Zeus and Buddha does "almost menacingly" look like?

‘It’s the first time The Chinaman has missed his target,’ Les added. ‘A legendary marksman, he’s become a thorn in the side of the world. It’s rumoured he’s freelance, selling his services to the highest bidder. No one knows his identity, and it’s said he’s a master of stealth and disguise.’

"The Chinaman"? Really. Was he hired by the Mahometan and the Hindoo?

I’m just glad that Hurricane Ernie no longer poses a threat to tonight’s shuttle launch.’

People talk like this? What planet? Apparently not Earth because:

Lance’s cheekbones began to shrink, as the General
approached the table.

What the hell is wrong with his cheekbones? Dude, seriously. They are not supposed to do that.

Intrepid - Revelations (Intrepid #3)is the eagerly awaited third book in what has quickly become the gold standard in the sci-fi adventure genre. Steve Stone scores a hat-trick with Intrepid - Revelations as it builds on the superb platform of the first two books and reintroduces Colonel Lance Tucker, a character so well defined and drawn, that reading about his third foray into space is like meeting an old friend. Time travel is never an easy theme to conquer, yet Mr. Stone not only does so seamlessly, but has earned the title of Emperor of this genre. Tackling age old mysteries from Jack The Ripper to the JFK assassination, this novel is a veritable time machine which transports the reader into many worlds and eras. The level of detail and complexities of both plot and character allow for such spectacular themes to be not only palatable to the reader, makes for edge of your seat reading. Intrepid - Revelations is not a book to start before bedtime, for if you do, your eyes will not shut until the final page is read. The narrative is that addicting and enthralling. While Col. Tucker seeks to change history, Mr Stone has made it with producing a third book in a series that not only equals the greatness of the first two books, but propels the Intrepid franchise into the stratosphere of sci-fi adventure excellence.

Apparantly this is the third in a series. It doesn't actually matter as the previous books and their outcomes are discussed here which, from a sales point of view, seems an odd thing to do.
It was only my love of time travel and conspiracies that kept me reading, and to give two instead of one star, as it comes over as a rather adolescent attempt at covering four famous events from history loosely tied together by an alien called Fred.
I didn't find any suspense or excitement in any of the tales and only agreed with one and a half of the four explanations of the historical events.
But everyone is entitled to an opinion.
