Scott Corbett (July 27, 1913 – March 6, 2006) was an American novelist and educator. He wrote five adult novels, the first published in 1950, and then began writing books for children. He retired from teaching in 1965 to write full-time. His best known book is The Lemonade Trick, a children's novel.
Kerby looked at his father, and he was not afraid. He poured out his story. Getting it off his chest was the best feeling he had experienced in a long, long time. No matter what they might do to him, it was a relief to own up. (PG 85)
Funny, entertaining, cheesy, very 1960s. Wholesome
Makes you think about what could have possibly changed throughout the years when you see disrespectful kids. A little fear of your parents is good. A little fear of God is good. Makes people want to do the right thing. You can tell within five minutes which kids have a healthy home life where the kid isn't constantly told he's amazing or she's a princess.
We LOVE Scott Corbett! What a great series for young boys. This is our second book in the "Trick" series and my boys and I have loved every page. The humor, the values, the exciting story, the endearing characters, all leading up to one big lesson learned at the end. Love love love.
I loved this series of books when I was a kid, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to read these books with my own kids. The plot of the books is about kids who get a "Feats O' Magic" chemistry set that allows for some real magic tricks. Oddly enough, this is the one book in my collection in which the magic chemistry set is not used at all, but it is still entertaining - in this one, some nasty letters written just for fun were accidentally mailed, and Kerby needs to get the letters back with the help of his cousin, Gay.
Another cute book in this fun series. My grandchildren and I just finished this one and they liked it as much as the first. This one had more of a moral than The Lemonade Trick but nothing heavy-handed. Its also for young children; 5-9 yrs probably, although the 4 year old stayed right with us. This series is from the 70's and are out of print so you would need to find copies at the library or a used book store.
