In Dumb Jock, Jeff and Brett fall in love, but their relationship is not without challenges. Brett’s a football star, and Jeff is the classic nerd. Their coming of age and coming out story is set in the 1980s, and they face many obstacles. Yet their love for each other is strong, and they finally get their happy ending.
Now, almost three decades later, their children are teenagers. Adam, their fifteen year old son, is the star pitcher of his high school baseball team. He has grown up with two dads, in a loving, non-judgmental environment. Yet Adam has challenges of his own. He’s failing two of his classes at school, and he’s been suspended for fighting. He resents being labeled and insists that just because he has two dads, it doesn’t mean that he is himself gay.
When he is forced to accept help from another student in his algebra class, Adam starts to have feelings that cause him to question his very identity. He’s got to decide whether to follow his heart or to maintain the image he’s worked so hard to portray. Will he have the courage to take a stand for what he knows is right, or will he end up being just another dumb jock?

Ameiii!!
After finishing the story about Jeff and Brett, I was looking forward to start this second installment in the series. It is featuring, Adam, the fifteen year old son of Jeff and Brett, who is the star pitcher of his school’s baseball team. Just like Brett, he loves sports – but while he adores the character traits he shares with Brett, he is more reluctant to see the similarities between himself and Jeff.
He hates being labeled and he is facing difficult situations in school that are making him lose his temper. Suspended for fighting, Adam is forced to accept the help of another student. Trevor is a shy kid coming from a difficult home. Despite the huge differences in their lives, Adam and Trevor are quickly becoming friends and Adam has to face the fact that he might be gay too.
Another Dumb Jock was an intense read and I liked the relationship between Adam and Trevor even if it moved very fast at times. I enjoyed the way Adam managed to overcome his problems and I also enjoyed getting and insight into Jeff and Brett’s relationship so many years later. I will definitely keep reading this series and I’m curious to see how these two couples will be portrayed in the next installment.
Wow!! I really love this story. First of all, I'm so happy to be reunited with Jeff and Brett. It was so heartwarming to get of glimpse of their mature, loving relationship, and to see their relationship with their children. So nice to see that Brett's parents came around!
But this story centers on their son, Adam. Adam is a teenager who loves both of his dads very much, but as any typical teenager, is somewhat embarrassed by the way his father acts. To make matters worse, he gets a lot of sh*t about it at school.
Adam's journey is one of self-discovery. He learns who he really is, he learns what it means to fall in love, and he learns just how much his family means to him.
This story feels very current. And I don’t just mean the pop culture references. I like how the younger crowd was a bit more tolerant and open-minded. Not everyone, of course, and certainly not everywhere, but in general I’d agree that the younger generation really is much more tolerant than their predecessors.
I love the humor in this story. Adam and Trevor were so funny. They both had such great personality. I love them both! I also love the interaction between Adam and his two dads. This is a story that isn’t often told. It’s the first one I’ve read with two gay dads already established. It is such an interesting dynamic.
I absolutely love what the author has done with these characters and their journey!!
A very unique twist on a sequel. The first book Dumb Jock, is from the point of view of the "sensitive" nerd who knows he is gay and is in love with the "dumb jock". Another Dumb Jock is from the view of a "dumb jock", who in reality is not dumb, well actually none of them are dumb and none of them are nerds (well Joey probably is). What a wonderful vehicle to campare and contrast two very different times in school. How far we have come--and how far we have yet to go! How Mr. Erno can realistically portray both points of view so convincingly is a real talent. It's not really a spoiler to talk about the 25th anniversary party for Brett and Jeff. I love books where I can identify (at least a little bit) with one or more of the charachters. I have some nerd tendencies (bookish) and my husband has some jock tendencies (loves sports and working on cars) and yet we are definitely not any of these guys. We have legally married and celebrated well over 25 years together. We did not have kids (which I regret now) although we do have our 4 legged ones. It's thru stories like this that I can live vicariously the life of a gay dad. Why people get so uptight about how a gay man be a father, when I had a "straight" father and turned out gay. I was a little disappointed at first when Adam turned out to be gay thinking it only adds to the stereotype, then Mr. Erno turns everything upside down with some twists and i was really good with it. Loved having the old high school gang back and loved that the new high school gang was so OK with Adam and Trevor being gay. I love being part of this change in society. There are lots of really problematic social situations that are treated in an extremely sensitive way. There are also a few "redneck" stereotypes that are maybe a bit over the top. But from someone who was bullied, reading about a gay boy standing up for himself and winning is very thrilling to read. Loved this book, and strongly recommend it. I myself will return to read both time and agin.
Jeff Erno did it again! Another Dumb Jock is an instant classic!
In Dumb Jock we met Brett Willson and Jeff Irwin. Fast forward twenty-five years later and we meet their son Adam Willson, who like his Dad, is another dumb jock. This amazing and thrilling story tells the story of Adam as he struggles to accept his Father and his own sexuality. Every page is page turner that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is thinking about reading it. Trust me, you won't regret it!
Almost thirty years ago now, Jeff and Brett fell in love. Jeff was a classic nerd, picked to tutor football star Brett. The course of their love wasn't easy, but they stuck it out and formed their own family. Now, their have kids of their own. Their son Adam is fifteen, and their daughter Lisa a couple of years older. They each donated sperm and it's pretty obvious to Adam, the baseball jock, that he's Brett's biological son.
And that's part of the problem. Adam's getting into fights at school and it revolves around his two dads. In Adam's mind, it wouldn't be so back if his Father, Jeff, were a little more like Brett and less...emotional. More manly. A guy. The other part? Some kids assume he's a dumb gay jock like his Dad.
Now he's fighting, failing two classes. It's not like he's a dumb kid. He's not. Just distracted. And behind in math. So when he's suspended for his latest fight, his Father arranges a math tutor for him.
But when he finds out his tutor will be nerdy Trevor, he just can't stand it. But it's that or not play baseball, so he takes it like the little man he is.
What he didn't expect was to like Trevor. Maybe like him too much. Just because the kids assume he's gay like his dad doesn't mean he is, Or isn't.
There are lots of lessons for this young man to learn. About life and love and family and fathers. Because, really, he isn't just another dumb jock.
I've been a fan or Jeff Erno's books for a while now, and this may be his best work yet. This is a heartfelt tale about what happens when the heart wants what it wants. Mr. Erno's lessons about family and being true to oneself and integrity and honor - well, there aren't many writers around who can take these themes and construct a beautifully written story told so very well.
His prose is straightforward and as honest as the day is long, and I so appreciate how he lets us SEE.
Adam is a wonderful boy, loving and rebellious. Headstrong much like the Father he loves so completely but feels ashamed of. Openhearted and caring like the Dad he adores. And the best of both. When he learns all the facts of his parentage, it's priceless.
Trevor is a hoot. His personality shines, and it's obvious how much this kid adores Adam. His circumstances grabbed at my heart and I wanted to bring him home and shelter him myself. Having worked with abused kids, the abuse and bullying this young man endured set me on fire.
Mr. Erno always manages to end on a high note, wrapping his romance up and giving us a gift from his heart, bow and all. I love it, and can't wait to see where he takes me next.
Jeff always makes my heart feel super happy. I loved Dumb Jock, which had me smiling, cheering, and crying, and he does it again with the sequel. This one focuses on the children of Jeff and Brett from the first book. Their son Adam is ball player, he’s popular but he still deals with prejudices when people find out he has two fathers. He defends his sexuality the only way he knows how to, with a fist to the accusers face.
Adam is also embarrassed of his father Jeff, who he feels is to feminine and emotional and he goes out of his way top prove he’s nothing like that. He’s like his dad Brett, all masculine and into sports. When the school bully starts calling him names, Adam gives him a fist to the face and finds himself suspended for a week, with appointments to attend anger management. His grades are also lacking and he needs a tutor, and it’s someone he is not too excited to work with.
Then comes Trevor, Adam’s tutor and he’s making him feel beautiful amazing things. Adam has never considered himself gay, and maybe he’s not, but all he knows is that he really likes Trevor and he doesn’t need to put a label on his feelings. The boys begin a slow relationship, and it’s both new and exciting for them. Though when it comes to Trevor, there is a lot he isn’t saying and it could cost him his life.
I really enjoyed this story, it hade me grinning like a loon. The author really has a talent in writing young characters. All that unnecessary angst, and the growing passion young adults feel towards each other. I loved Trevor, because I have a thing for guys in glasses and of the nerdy variety. I liked Adam, he reminds me of his father Brett, but less arrogant ^_^.
Overall, an awesome sequel and Jeff always puts a smile on my face and I have yet to be completely disappointed with one his books. Sometimes love is all you need, and the author knows how to write a good love story.
Accepting who we are and the ones we love for who they are.
Brett and Jeff twenty-five years later. We meet their two children, Lisa and Adam. A family navigating the ins and outs of everyday life with teens. Egads.
The story is told from Adam viewpoint and it is interesting to see the different perspective on his dads' relationship. Like all teens, it isn't easy. Adam deals with the smack talk about his dads at school. Unfortunately, his solution leads to suspension and tutoring for the classes he's managed to shank recently
Adam's experience is not unlike his dad, Brett as he comes to realize things about himself. Ego-centric, his trials consume him until he sees a need greater than his own and rises to the occasion. It's a sweet love story that unfolds.
There's a surprise whammy for Adam that rocks the foundations of his self identity, but Trevor is there to support him. While there are a few differences and it is nice to revisit Brett and Jeff, the story is not significantly different than DUMB JOCK; therefore, I liked it, but didn't love it.
Recommended to readers who really want an update on Brett and Jeff's lives.

Another Dumb Jock is a standalone sequel which focuses on the teenage son of the main characters from the first book. Told from a single first person POV, their son is a jock who identifies as straight at the beginning of the book. As I didn’t read the first book, I can’t compare or contrast the stories but I like the idea of revisiting a couple and their children more than 20 years later.
The author does a fantastic job capturing the voice, thoughts, and emotional turmoil of a teenager without creating an immature character who simply frustrates me. The dialogue feels very age appropriate and there were plenty of moments that made me laugh out loud, both as a parent and from Adam’s perspective. The flow was perfect. It was an easy, faster read with a steady pacing that kept me engaged every time I listened. As well written as Adam is, the narrator delivers an equally fantastic performance that embodies Adam’s youthful voice. His tone, speed, and the emotion in his voice brings the characters to life making it a truly enjoyable listen.
I don’t know that I’d consider this a lighthearted book because the author does confront quite a few ugly truths in the world, particularly with LGBT youth. However, the overwhelming hopeful tone left me with a warm heart and huge smile. The familial and peer based conflicts were well developed and relatable for all readers with complete resolutions. I really loved seeing the support and strength of Adam’s family unit. His character growth throughout the book showcased the effect his family’s bond had and his speeches brought tears to my eyes (happy tears). The romance in Another Dumb Jock is age appropriate, so you’re not going to be listening to a lot of steamy scenes play out. Rather, Mr. Erno delivers a YA romance that will leave you with a full heart and wide smile. This is definitely a feel-good story I’ll revisit when I need some happy in my day.
I liked this better than the original Dumb Jock. I thought the relationship between the two boys in this story was a lot more enjoyable than the relationship between the two boys in the original Dumb Jock. This book is not without its angst or darker moments, and there were some plot lines in this that I did not like, but overall I liked it. It's been a while since I read it, so I don't remember all of it. But my overall Impression is that I liked it.
I also thought that this was an interesting way to do a sequel to Dumb Jock.
So far out of all the Jeff Erno books I have read I think I like You Belong With Me the best and I hope that it too will have a sequel just like Dumb Jock did.
this book was about adam, brett and jeff's son. Adam is always fighting someone at school because they make comments about his gay fathers, and Adam is always denying he is not gay, but that changes when he meets Trevor, who is out and proud of who he is, but that might be difficult for adam because he is still in the closet!
i loved their relationship, and i hated how trevor had to stand the beatens from his mothers boyfriend. i loved how Adams parents ( jeff and brett) helped them and accepted them! i also loved to see jeff and bretts love after so many years ! :')
I give it.. 5.1!!! Hmm.. what to say.. IT'S JUST THE BEST! Everything is there. Romance, drama etc. I really love Adam. He's so LOYAL, super caring and sweet. No. I love all of them. The dads, Adam and Trevor <3 Wonder if there's a trilogy to this haha? i mean not about their future. maybe their relatives or something and they get to involve too :p
This was just sweetness and lollipops. It was nice to see Jeff and Brett grown and still together. Everyone was mostly happy and getting along. It was different to see the little tutor not so outwardly worshipping the jock, as usual. It was a good change. I enjoyed the book.
I love a good Opposites Attract story, as well as discovering new (to me) authors and narrators. So, as it goes, Another Dumb Jock was, indeed, the trifecta for me, and I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook from start to finish. Jeff Erno wrote a fantastic book, and Ezekiel Robison brought everyone to life in a wonderfully lively way.
Adam is a great kid who was brought up in a loving but non-traditional home setting, with two dads and an older sister. It’s all rather normal to him, but some people still find this home life a bit of a hard pill to swallow, and definitely let Adam know it. Especially one particular boy who has taken it upon himself to be the spokesperson of sorts for the narrow minded, by bullying Adam and taunting him verbally. Finally, Adam had enough and fights back in the form of a fist to said bully’s nose, which results in both students being suspended for a week. The problem here is that Adam has been working his tail off to be the starting pitcher on his high school baseball team, and will finally achieve this goal in a few short days, but being suspended from school will force him to miss this opportunity.
Good thing his dads intervene and broker a deal with the principal and baseball coach that allows for Adam to pitch at his first season’s game. As with all deals, there comes a hefty price that Adam is not sure he really wants to pay. He has to clean the locker room after practice every day until the end of the year, pay back his bully’s medical expenses, go to anger counseling once a week, and work with a tutor until his grades (which were recently slipping significantly due to the bullying) go back up.
Enter Trevor, Adam’s tutor and contemporary at school. Trevor is a self-professed geek and a bit of a control freak when it comes to tutoring. To scandalize Adam even more, Trevor admits openly that he is gay. This rocks Adam’s world, particularly because he is fiercely trying to define his sexuality, but is still extremely confused. Which causes even more problems and confusion when Adam finds himself highly attracted to Trevor.
Another Dumb Jock is an extremely sweet story of discovery, personal growth, acceptance, and, above all, love. To be honest, this book knocked my socks off. Color me surprised when I went searching for other books written by Jeff Erno and found out that Another Dumb Jock was book two in a series! Apparently, book one, Dumb Jock, is about how Adam’s dads met in high school. It is also narrated by the fabulous Ezekiel Robison. So, I am here to tell you that Another Dumb Jock can be read (or listened to) as a standalone. Which means, don’t worry if you have not read the first book in this series, because even if you may be missing a bit of the dads’ backstory in book two, it is written and narrated so well that you won’t even realize it. And, at the risk of turning this review into a novella, I must encourage you to take a chance on Another Dumb Jock, written by Jeff Erno and narrated by Ezekiel Robison. It is absolutely brilliant!
Adam has issues, anger being one and its gotten him a five day suspension. His anger is somewhat justified since it was directed at a homophonic classmate who had just insulted his parents. Adam's parents are an openly gay couple and Adam was defending them. He's also failing two of his classes so during the suspension they engage a tutor for math. His tutor is his fellow classmate Trevor. Adam really doesn't know much about Trevor but he stirs something deep inside of Adam. Adam is suddenly questioning who he really is as he starts to have feelings for Trevor. An excellent story highlighting family, love, acceptance, and courage.
Lovely story with lovely characters. I loved revisiting Jeff and Brett and experience their adult lives. I loved their kids and of course Adam. The story was just as sweet as the first
I loved the first book of the series and this was almost as good. It felt like a good remake of the first book. With a twist. Instead of the voice of the nerd we get to experience the angst and agony of the jock as he comes to terms with bullying, having two dads and the possibility of being gay himself.
4.4⭐️. BEST IF THE SERIES IS READ IN ORDER BUT NOT TOTALLY NECESSARY! Very good story! This book is a sequel to Dumb Jock by Jeff Erno. The next generations story is presented with the son of the original characters.
3.75* Some genuine laugh-out-loud lines. Cute characters. But things were a little too neatly wrapped up by the end. Still, some consciousness-raising, teaching moments as well as Strong anti-bullying and anti-domestic-violence awareness messages.
Cute story about family, being true to oneself, and falling in love. There's some serious moments, but overall it's a lighthearted book, which is a nice change of pace.
Again, with the same premise, we meet Jeff and Brett again, but this time they are the parents of young jock Adam.
Adam gets in trouble at school, gets suspended, and after finding out he is failing several classes, his parents decide to hire a tutor.
And so it begins… just like his parents once upon the time.
But here Adam is reluctant to identify himself as gay. He refuses to acknowledge his sexuality and give the bullies another reason to called his parents names. It is interesting to see another perspective of the whole gay parents family dynamic.
Adam doesn’t want to be gay because his parents are. He fights those feelings simple because some people are just waiting for him to say he is gay, as a result of having two fathers. This is ridiculous, but that is his perspective.
Until he meets Trevor, and his feelings start taking over and even in his teen rebellious attitude he finds the true about who he is and who he loves.
Trevor is out and proud, he makes that clear from day one. And you get to meet a fine young man. Someone that suffers in silence. There are a lot of things happening at home, that will put Trevor through hell and back.
All those things will test Adam’s feelings for the boy.
It was nice to see Brett and Jeff again. In their family roles, as parents. Still a loving couple.
I really liked that in this book there were other subplots, aside from the discovery on Adam’s side, there was the love story and also the family matters.
The moment when Jeff and Brett get to come clean about who the mothers of their kids are was so very emotional and interesting. The adoration Adam has for his father, such a powerful moment after so much teenage angst.
One thing though, Jeff here gets to set the rules for the young couple, about sex in the house and the rest...funny, he was the 14 year old sneaking around to have sex with his boyfriend in book 1! how perceptions change when we become parents, right?
This was a much better book than book one, the writing is still great, full of meaning and emotions. The new MCs are absolutely adorable, both of them. This is a more easy to read, more complex book, so much more happening here.
I loved it! It's actually better than the previous one. Although the book centers on Adam, who is Jeff and Brett's 16 yr. old son, we get a lot of Jeff and Brett here too. It's so interesting because, here we see them both as parents now. I believe they're in their 40s here, if I'm not mistaken. I feel like there is so much story in the span of those years that is left untold, and I desperately want to know it.
Anyway, the story here is kind of like history repeating itself. We have Adam and Trevor, who are like the new Jeff and Brett, but in a more modern and more accepting time. Unlike the first book, this doesn't just tackle romance, but also goes in to the aspects of parenthood and childhood. The dynamics of Jeff and Brett with their children are explored, that of being 2 gay parents and also being a child of one. I really loved this, because this is something that exists in reality but isn't really depicted much in books, tv, movies etc.
Overall, a great sequel in the Dumb Jock series. I can't wait to read the next ones, especially the story in the years that took place between this book and the previous one.
An interesting continuation of Jeff Erno's Dumb Jock focuses on Jeff & Brett's son, Adam. Adam gets into some trouble at school and is struggling in a few of his classes, so Jeff gets their son a tutor, Trevor. Trevor is confidently out, something Adam may have a problem with since he's made it a point of letting people know that just because his dads are gay, it doesn't mean he is, too. But spending time with Trevor rouses some curiosities for Adam that he might finally feel compelled to act on.
I honestly think I liked this one better than the first. I admit it was a bit awkward at first when I realized it was focusing on the son of the main couple from the previous book, but looking past that, it is actually a pretty great story of teenage love and what it means to care about someone. The detractor here is the way it all wrapped up - way too conveniently, to be honest - but otherwise it's a good read that, again, avoids some of the big cliches of a high school m/m geek-jock romance.
