Throughout the years, Seventh-day Adventists, like all heretics, have had to “crawfish” on their doctrines. That is, they have had to back away from what they originally taught. In this booklet, Dr. Ruckman deals with the crux issue of Seventh-day Adventism: the legalistic observance of the Old Testament Jewish Sabbath by the New Testament believer in the Body of Christ. You will see from the Scriptures how the Sabbath was given as a sign to Israel (not the Church), how every Seventy-day Adventist breaks the Biblical Sabbath, the true nature of the Mark of the Beast that has nothing to do with going to church on Sunday, the real reasons some Christians in the book of Acts attended synagogues on the Sabbath, four “sabbaths” found in the book of Hebrews about which Ellen G. White in her Scriptural ignorance knew nothing, and what the Scriptures actually say about the first and seventh days.
Peter Sturges Ruckman (November 19, 1921 – April 21, 2016) was an American Independent Baptist pastor and founder of Pensacola Bible Institute in Pensacola, Florida (not to be confused with Pensacola Christian College, also in Pensacola, Florida).
Ruckman was known for his position that the King James Version constituted "advanced revelation" and was the final, preserved word of God for English speakers.
Definitely written by someone who was burned by a bad experience in one congregation. A skewed view from one person's experience. Good to know that God is not saving denominations but individuals. This is something many SDAs seem to forget. Also that it was never intended to be a denomination but that it was always to remain a movement constantly studying and learning God's will, never staying stagnant and always moved by His spirit. This is what every Christian should be regardless of religious community.
Unfortunately a lot of people misunderstand the Sabbath. Its given as a GIFT of time... Who wouldn't want that and why call it legalism? Its a time of remembrance that we DON'T have to work for our salvation. Plus it was given to Adam and eve. If I know the bible that's 2000 years before there ever was a Jew. Anyway, bottom line is, this man doesn't know what he's talking about. I could explain the other points but that would take up a lot of space here...
Dr. Ruckman writes this is his characteristic bold and harsh style. While he makes good points here and there, it is overshadowed by his seeming need to be very insulting and not very engaging with the source material.
This book clearly teaches, but the use of Scripture alone WHY this heretic sect is wrong. I especially like the short bit about why the KJV must be used to rightly divide the truth! (You can’t get the truth from lies, or from omissions either).
However, this book focuses on only one aspect of this Cult- their “sabbath” keeping (which they don’t keep except by coincidence), or rather, their lack of adherence because they use the secular calendar, which is 365 days, while God’s calendar is 360. There is great evidence completely ignored by this sect, and Biblical Doctrine stands upon God’s Word (the man, Christ Jesus!)
Not discussed is other false doctrines of these adherents to this cult, such as the forbidding of meats, which I wish had been discussed. Still, a very good read, and I recommend it.
The author goes on and on about how Saturday isn't the true seventh day of the week, so that means all the Seventh-Day Adventists are in the wrong. Every chapter is the same. Saturday isn't the true seventh day. It's almost like Ruckman doesn't know about observed days. Nobody better him about Thanksgiving or Christmas!
