I already loved bees, but learning more details about the tail-wagging dance makes me want to make bees the leader of every country on Earth and have humans become subservient to them.
This was a super cute and also very informative read, especially considering the short length. I'd read Buzz: The Nature and Necessity of Bees a while back and loved everything I learned from it, but I thought this picture book would be a fun little refresher on some of the basics. We sell this at my work and I'd bought it a long time ago because of my apianphilia (yes I made that word up) but had just propped it up on top of one of my bookcases as decor because of the cute cover (next to my Winnie the Pooh lego set because I am an adult).
I finally decided to actually read it this morning, and it was just lovely. The artwork is very pleasant, and the author manages to work in a ton of facts in a way that is educational and engaging. You learn about the different types of bees and what they do, the whole process of their growth, of caring for the hive, producing honey, and much more. I especially loved seeing the historical timeline about bees and humankind's relation to them, and beekeeping and honey production around the world. You see all of the different crops that rely on bees as well as various products that use beeswax and other bee creations, plus a bunch of different types of honey you can buy and consume (someone send me some apple blossom honey, please and thank you).
But the best was definitely all of the info about the tail-wagging dance! I had learned about it in both Buzz and The Bees by Laline Paull, but I don't know if I knew or recalled just how intricate it was and amazing amount of knowledge it can convey to other bees. The number of "waggle runs" during the dance literally tells other bees exactly how far away the best flowers are.
Bees are fucking incredible. PROTECT THEM AT ALL COSTS.
Very cute, very informative, a great one for kids or adults who like bees. And who doesn't? Oh…maybe if you're allergic to bee stings. But that's not their fault!
In this book, Charles Micucci covers the life cycle, work, and history of honeybees. This book covers a wide range of interesting facts about the life and times of honeybees. While reading through The Life and Times of the Honeybee, I thoroughly enjoyed how the text was laid out across the pages. As a reader, I feel as though sometimes it can come off to be overwhelming reading long pages of sentences, as well as multiple bullet points; however, this book has all the information spread out differently on each page.
This book has everything there is to know about bees. There is information about how bees are grow, how they make the honey, what they do for work, the types of bees, and the types of the products which are sold the bees make. I learned so much about bees, but I could see how a reader would be curious to learn more specifics about one of the topics in the story. The pictures helped with the reading by having a picture and then explaining what was happening. There was a good balance between words and graphics.
There is a ton of information in this book - would be perfect to read to class if you are learning about bees! This book talks about the entire life cycle of a bee, what house/field/worker bees all do, what field bees do, how you get different types of honey, and so much more. The most interesting part of the book I found was the calendar section. It had 12 sections for each month and talked about what all takes place in a bee hive throughout the entire year. There is a lot of information in this book and may be overwhelming to some students if given the task to read the entire book.
This book teaches the history of the honeybee while also adding in humor. Children can learn about how the honeybees communicate, the history of the honeybee, where they live, about different types of honeybees, etc. Children will enjoy the realistic and funny illustrations in the book which will grab their attention and keep them interested. There is a lot of great information about honeybees from the time they became known to man to the present day.
This book would literally be all you needed to teach a very in depth lesson on Honeybees. Each page is filled with lots of information all about honey bees. This book covers everything from distribution, reproduction, behavior, and honey manufacture to the honeybee's niche in history. Many people would read this and not realize how many products actually come from bees and honey. It also has many important literature features to teach young readers, such as its table of contents.
This informational text provides an in-depth look into the lives of bees. Meant for a bit older reader. Provides information about how they are spread across the world, how they reproduce and colonize, their typical behaviors throughout their life, and how they go about making honey. This book was an interesting read even for an adult who may not know all that goes into the life of a bee. Great book to be incorporated into a science unit.
Genre: Informational Book - This book included a large variety of information on honeybees! I was able to learn so many new facts and answer questions that I had about henybees! It covers topics such as size, reproduction, pollination, as well as differnt products that come from honey and are made all over the world! This book is a littler longer and contains alot of infomation so I would recccomend it to advanced or older elementary students! Genre: Informational
This informational book was amazing! If students are looking for a book to read that teaches them the ins and outs of honeybees, this is the book for them. While the book does include facts upon facts, there are many pictures that keep the reader engrossed in the text. The information presented is valuable and applicable to our everyday lives. This would be great for students who may want to learn more about bees without reading a cut and dry non-fiction book.
This book is packed full with incredible information on honeybees and their lifestyle. This information would be a good resource for many ages; especially for a student wanting to write a research paper on honeybees. It also would be good for a student needing to find a mass amount of facts and information on bees, as their are so many words on each page along with pictures.
This book has great diagrams! There are many facts about bees size, vision, growth, age, honey, and products. It talks a lot about the pollination process. I thought the bee calendar in the back of the book was very interesting!
