The cooperative Little Critter shows how he shares his toys, his crayons, and even his ice cream, with his little sister. He even shares the TV--except when it's time for his favorite show!
Mercer Mayer is an American children's author and illustrator. He has published over 300 books, using a wide range of illustrative styles. Mayer is best known for his Little Critter and Little Monster series of books.
Basic Plot: Little Critter shows how good he is at sharing with his little sister.
This is intended to be a book for early readers to use. It has only one sentence per page, and is very simply written. The art and humor of Mercer Mayer are, as usual, very present, making the story worth even more than the important message of learning to share would normally make it.
The slight disparities between what Little Critter says and what he is depicted as actually doing is delightful as usual in "I Am Sharing". Is it good sharing if you only share the broken nubs of your crayons and not the nice, new ones? Hmm . . . My toddler enjoys the Little Critter books and picked this one out at the library. She's just starting to understand the idea of sharing, and has a baby brother on the way, so it is quite relevent to our daily lives! She's also just old enough to realize that he isn't always doing a great job, which is good for giggles and brief discussion. And as always, the "little critters" (in this case, spider and grasshopper) to find on each page are a fun extra.
I am Sharing (Little Critter) by Mercer Mayer (Picture Book)
The cooperative Little Critter shows how he shares his toys, his crayons, and even his ice cream, with his little sister. He even shares the TV--except when it's time for his favorite show! This book is a good way to teach young children under the age of five a good way to learn how to share. Sharing is important for young children to learn so I ordered this book to read to my day care children to teach them how to share with each other We've enjoyed many of the other Mercer Mayer books. A great example of "sharing" amongst siblings--Little Critter tells of all the things that he shares with his little sister. . After reading this book with the children I gather a bunch of toys from the playroom and allow children to practice how to share with each other. I also talk with them about why it is important to share with your friends. Children need to learn the importance of being nice to their friends, sharing and taking turns so I think this book is great when your try to teach a lesson to children 3-6years of age.

My Review: This is a great Little Critter book, it isn't exactly a story but it is a great conversation starter. You still have the fun Little Critter illustrations (and the spider and mouse to find in all the pictures). Munchkin was even able to pickup that Critter wasn't sharing as good as he should have been and we were able to talk about what sharing does mean.
