"It is the firm belief that the book will raise the consciousness of many people and become the main book for those who are looking for a particular, honest way of building communication with a horse."
Natural Horse Magazine

" It encourages us to think. It forces us to change our view of the horse in order to attain what the horse can freely give. It encourages a way of life with the horse."
Natural Horse Magazine
From the Author
"My goal is very simple. As I see it, the human being is guilty of extreme offences to the horse.
I really believe that through centuries, humans' relations with horses has been grounded on violence and immeasurable barbarity. To me, the apotheoses of this "cretinism" are the equestrian sports in all their forms. You torture the horses by inserting iron instruments that were invented in the Bronze Age into their mouths, just to have fun ...

I know what I speak of: my own past is very shameful and dishonouring. I am more than guilty of offending the horse as I have participated in equestrian sports, in teaching tricks to horses for the cinema, in using the "iron" and the spurs ... it is a long time ago. But I remember it. I remember that in those times, I was "one of them".

Unfortunately, that is the way I was told to do. Back then, when I was very young, I was told that the bit was absolutely necessary, and that the horse was "stupid". I had to acquire much knowledge, experience and much courage to change myself completely.Nevzorov Haute Ecole is a school built on the fundamental principle of raising horses without any - not the slightest - mean of control or constraint."

"It is a school where all that is "punishment" of the horse is forbidden: spurs, iron of all kinds, halters etc. The school is based on the fundamental understanding that the horse is capable of cognition. To conquer his spirit is a more honest goal and is much more constructive than stupidly hamper him with ropes or straps and all sorts of ironmongery.

Whatever hypocrite arguments the classical schools of equestrians sports may choose to justify themselves, they treat the horse as a machine made of flesh and with no intellect, that you can set in motion with a kick of the spurs, that you must always control through the pain provoked in the mouth by the "iron" (the bit); and whose whole life must be dedicated to serving the desire (or lack of desire) of man to use it and have fun with it."

"All the system of man and horse relations excludes any kind of love. Especially love for the horse. If we look narrowly at what sportsmen, stunt men, old classical schools' representatives do with horses, we'll see clearly that such relations would be logical only if they had hatred at the heart of their actions... I lived in the atmosphere of cruelty, watching how stunt men treated horses, how sportsmen tortured them every day. All that those people do with horses is not related to the feeling and passion that originally led them to horses...''

"... You can hate violence towards the horse only if you hate violence towards men. Some eight or ten years ago I said definitely to myself that I would never treat horses as I was taught to anymore. But I didn't know how to treat them otherwise. So my great emotional necessity to be with them required big and serious knowledge. I start-ed traveling everywhere and studying. I tried to find people who could teach me that other manner of treating horses."

"At that time I also believed that all this is the evidence of my extraordinary talent. I didn't understand that it was not my talent that really mattered but my approach and the feeling that I was no longer hiding from horses.
From then on I forgot all my previous experience and acted in accordance not with the norms of sportsmen and stunt men but with the feeling I felt for horses.
And I felt love and endless respect. This was the greatest instrument of all.'

This book by Alexander Nevzorov can be best described as the most honest and accurate account of human involvement with horses ever published in history; and one which is acutely relevent to modern horse people, particularly the ones who want to care for and connect with horses to the highest degree.

Alexander Nevzorov is a man who has tapped into something very deep here... and in this book he reveals both his method- the most noble and admirable aspects of human to horse interaction ever known. And by contrast he also unveils in his refreshingly unapologetic manner, the lowest characteristics of human nature and what we should all avoid and fight against if we care at all about horses.

I think this book is exactly what the world needs right now! No more excuses, it shows exactly what is possible, that we can rise to true heights of humanity, that we can refuse all torture and harsh tactics against horses and that the pinnacle horse human relationship is real and possible for all!

If you have seen any of his films, you HAVE to read the book - as someone rightly said to me recently, this book is an essential addition to the Nevzorov films Nevzorov Haute Ecole Principles and together, the book and films are truly a complete study for intelligent horse-people and for those who are serious about following the Nevzorov Haute Ecole.

It should also be said that this book is not just for a horse person, but for any modern thinking person who wants this world to grow into something beautiful for horses and for all, and who wants to know how to contribute to such a change. Alexander Nevzorov shows the way.

WOW! What a book!!!
I would not want to miss it for two reasons:
1. the bright side of it: You get insights and practical advice. Precise. Deep. Lasting.
2. the dark side of it when he writes about the extremely cruel treatment of the horse by man (which lasts to this day btw): The author put it perfectly: “These are (…) very disgusting things, but, it seems to me that a man who wishes to understand the horse must know them".

This book is very direct and holds nothing back. It hits hard at all the tools, implements and accoutrements of equestrian sport that are really tools of torture that have been glossed over for centuries. Dressage whips that have been bedazzled with jewels and pretty colors, so that the public will continue to buy into its use. Bits of every conceivable type and shape, straps and chains. All so that an uneducated person can try to control the kind hearted horse.

The book runs on at great length of all the terrible things that humans have done, continue to do and will likely continue to do well into the future. Until people open their eyes and learn a better more gentle way to be with horses without interfering drastically with their environments and handling.
