About the author

Mérő László magyar matematikus, publicista, pszichológus, az ELTE Gazdaságpszichológiai szakcsoportjának egyetemi tanára. Elsősorban ismeretterjesztő könyveiről ismert.

1968-ban érettségizett a Berzsenyi Dániel Gimnáziumban. III. díjat nyert az 1968-ban Moszkvában megrendezett X. Nemzetközi Matematikai Diákolimpián. 1974-ben végzett az ELTE matematikus szakán. 1979-ben megszerezte a műszaki tudományok kandidátusa fokozatot.

1984-ig a SZTAKI-nál dolgozott, ahol eleinte képfeldolgozással foglalkozott, majd érdeklődése egyre inkább a mesterséges intelligencia felé fordult. Heurisztikus keresőeljárásokkal kapcsolatos eredményeit nemzetközi szaklapokban publikálta.[1]

1984-től 2005-ig az ELTE Kísérleti Pszichológia Tanszékén tanított matematikai, logikai, pszichológiai, és játékelméleti tárgyakat. Első könyve, az Észjárások 1989-ben jelent meg, ekkor indult el sikeres könyveinek sorozata itthon és külföldön is. 2000-ben habilitált a pszichológia tudományágban (pszichológiai egyetemi végzettsége nincs). 2005 óta az ELTE Gazdaságpszichológiai szakcsoportjának egyetemi tanára.

1987-ben számítógépes játékokat gyártó céget alapított, amely sikeres játékokat készített amerikai, japán és európai megrendelőknek. Több döntéselőkészítéssel és marketinggel foglalkozó cég tanácsadója.

High level framework for conceptualizing different modes of thinking, useful in and of itself if you're locked into only appreciating logical/rational intelligence. It goes further by considering the implications of the theory to the development (and limitations) of artificial intelligence at the time. Will need to come back to it after brushing up bit on current AI developments to see how much or how little of the ideas in here have been put into practice. The basic trick seem to be the ability to abstract/group lower level concepts into higher order concepts, and navigate tangled hierarchies/flip frames.

I was reading slowly very slowly, mostly because of the family time.
The biggest learning was that we need to keep to study a domain for about 10 years minimum to achieve the level of a grandmaster, then our way of thinking becomes intuitional again, we express ourselves using analogies... :)

The second learning was that even formal logic is not capable of derive everything. So we need to use other paradigm. Or maybe other ways of thinking than the rational one like holistic way of thinking or misticism...
I wish I would have read this book about 10 years ago...

Nagyon gyorsan olvastam, szinte alig tudtam letenni a könyvet annyira izgalmasnak találtam. azoknak tudom ajánlani akik szeretnének egy átfogó képet kapni arról hogy épül fel az emberi gondolkodás. megismerhetjük a keleti / nyugati gondolkodásmódok közötti különbségeket. Rengeteg kiváló példát és kísérletet mutat be a szerző hogy közelebb hozza az átlag olvasó számára is a sokszor elvont, hétköznapi életünkben rejtetten maradó gondolkodási elveket.
