Tiffany Clare is a new-to-me author and I was lucky enough to win a copy of this book. What a delicious treat it turned out to be!  The combination of endearing hero and heroine, sparkling dialogue, fascinating secondary characters and some sizzling hot love scenes made this an extremely enjoyable read.

Four years ago, Leo met Genny, the woman who ‘meant more to him than he could ever fathom’, but being young and stupid, he walked away from her at his father's bidding. Four years ago, Genny fell in love with Leo but he simply walked away leaving her hurt and angry.

Meeting again, Leo sees it as a second chance to prove himself worthy of her love. As far as Genny’s concerned it’s once bitten, twice shy.  She has no intention of succumbing to his seductive ways ever again!

I couldn't help but like Leo and Genny. He's the handsome, charming,  sexy, witty, protective rogue and she's the apparently prim and proper chaperone who gradually reveals her true self; fun loving, tenacious, self-sufficient and strong-willed. They made the perfect couple. I enjoyed the delicious push-pull between them and their rapier-sharp repartee. Leo's definitely hard to resist with his wickedly seductive words and actions.

The heat of his breath fanned over the shell of her ear. "Perhaps I wish to hear your memories of our wickedly delightful nights together. I have missed you more than you can imagine all these years."

I was pleased that Genny didn’t capitulate too soon and Leo has to work hard to convince her of his sincerity. When the two finally get together, there are some sizzling hot love scenes, particularly the one in the maze! But my favourite scene takes place in Leo's greenhouse. There's not even a kiss but there is something so beautifully romantic about the whole scene. It's somewhere very special to Leo:

"It's my private place. I don't want people who don't appreciate this as much as I do tramping through here, breaking flowers, and wearing down paths."

and the fact that he wants to share it with Genny creates a real moment of emotional connection between them.

When Leo reveals details of the wager with Tristan, it causes a rift with Genny but, luckily, Ms Clare doesn't drag this out and it was quickly resolved without lots of angst and soul-searching.

There is a wonderful array of fascinating secondary characters, all just begging for their own stories; the infamous Jezebel, Dowager Countess of Fallon, the enigmatic Hayden, Duke of Alsborough, the affable Tristan, Marquess of Castleigh and the not-as-naive-as-she-appears Lady Charlotte.

I loved the snippets of gossip from The Mayfair Chronicle which precede each chapter. They reminded me so much of Lady Whistledown's observations from Julia Quinn's Bridgerton novels.

This is a delightful, entertaining romance and I'm really looking forward to reading the other books to come in this series.

RATING: ★★★★

SENSUALITY RATING: HOT

This book was okay, with nothing particularly exciting to make it unable-to-put-downable. There wasn't a lot going on throughout much of the story. At times I found Genny irritating; and she really aggravated me when confronted by her uncle. I do prefer stronger heroines. Leo was likeable enough. The story did get more interesting toward the end. The love scenes were done nicely. I'll read the other books in the series since I have them, but don't feel the need to jump into them at this moment.

Book Review Of “Wicked Nights with a Proper Lady” By Tiffany Clare

Genny has moved on with her life and has never forgotten about the one man she truly loved. Genny now spends her times as chaperon to her cousin Charlotte, who is enjoying her first season in the upper societies balls and events. Genny loves chaperoning her cousin and is quite happy being single. That is until she attends one of the seasons biggest balls when staring back at her is Leo Harrow “Earl of Barrington” the man who broke Genny’s heart. Leo Sees Genny and makes a bee-line for her immediately. Will old memories resurface for Genny when she see’s Leo? Will Genny turn and walk away, or will she fall victim again to Leo’s charm once again?

Leo Harrow, Earl of Barrington is on a mission to stop Mr. Warren the great nephew of the last Earl of Fallon who ruined his good friend Jez’s life. If Mr. Warren marries he will kick Jez out on the streets with no place to go. Leo has received word that Mr. Warren has been selected to marry Lord Pondsley’s daughter Lady Charlotte and neither Jez or Leo wants to see her marry Mr. Warren. The last thing Leo wants, is for Lady Charlotte to live the life that Jez led, pure hell. Leo hears that Lady Charlotte is attending a local event and comes up with an idea. That is, he and Tristan Leo’s friend will seduce Lady Charlotte away from Mr. Warren.

While attending the ball Leo spots Lady Charlotte and Genny Camden, the one women Leo never got over and the one who got away. Leo’s important task is to win back Genny, but that task will not be as easy as he thinks.

I have read many wonderful books by Tiffany Clare and have loved them all. I was really disappointed with this book. I wish there would have been more excitement with trying to stop Mr. Warren from Marrying Lady Charlotte. Also more about whether Jez won her house back. I hope the next book in the series is better as I love Tiffany’s books.

Must we always return to the scene of the crime?

It was going to be an uncomplicated season for Genevieve Camden. She was not going to be on the marriage market, just a chaperone to her cousin. Genny is considered on the spinster track so her only objective was to get her cousin married off to the right man. A simple, unexciting time in the ballroom for Genny and everything was going as planned until Leo set foot in the door.

Leo Harrow, Earl of Barrington was a rogue, scoundrel, and all around horrible person. Well not really, he was a heart breaker though, the one heart he broke was Genny’s, and she will never forgive or forget. He so easily seduced then departed her life without a backward glance; there is no way she is going to let that happen again. Leo has other ideas, as Genny was the one bad decision he made that he cannot rectify if he can convince her it was a boy’s foolish idea to leave that a man would never make. Genny hates the games of love and the war between the ton and the necessity to remain above reproach is imperative to keep herself under the roof of her uncle the only home she has. Leo is in pursuit and Genny is his chosen prey so the temptation to give in is a difficult force to reckon with and Genny truly has deep, heart-felt feelings for Leo despite his past indiscretion.

When the real reason for his pursuit becomes knowledge, she would rather not know the hurt that runs so deep might not have a cure. Leo believes his love for her will over rule any obstacle, but is that a true belief or a wish that will not come true.

Tiffany Clare has the bravado to write a daring story with challenging characters and dynamic breath taking romantic action

Mm this book had good moments and not so good moments. Mostly it doesn't feel fully fleshed out or well rounded with the main characters or the people in their lives. The whole wager scheme felt silly and never really went anywhere, and yet they made it such a huge deal about it at the end it felt kind of contrived. I also am not the biggest fan of the plot where lovers with a past eventually come back together again unless there is a really good reason for them not being together, and his reason was pretty flimsy..also I didn't really like her personality that much. Actually the more I think about the book I would probably give it a 2 1/2..

A new series, this is the first book. A group of friends-quite outside the bounds o fpropriety, yet part of the Ton-rally around one of their own. Leo and Genny had an affair years ago but Leo left without marrying her. Now she works as a paid companion to her cousin. Leo has inherited and is involved in is estate. When they meet, Leo is trying to stop her charge from marrying as that will affect his friend. The sparks betwen them are still there but, the betrayal from before still casts a pall. I think as a set-up for a new series the book was OK, but I think/hope the next books are a little better

I loved this book. I really loved the conflict and the banter between the H/h. I found this novel from clicking through to what others were reading and it didn't disappoint. It was super entertaining and usually, I hate stories where the characters pick up years later. But Clare kept it really simple and didn't inundate you with flashbacks.

A deliciously sexy tale, which I gave a rating of 4.5. Taken from my review at RomanceJunkies.com:

Leo Harrington, Earl of Barrington, and his three friends are considered the four degenerates of society, as they seek their pleasures for the sole purpose of mocking their station in society. With the death of the abusive husband of their friend Jez, the Countess of Fallon, the other three are trying their best to cheer her up. It is not her husband’s death that has her down, but the fact that he has left her nearly destitute, not even providing for her after the miserable marriage he put her through. The heir to her deceased husband’s title, Mr. Warren, treats her with disdain and is no help at all. So she seeks her own vengeance. Mr. Warren has set his sights on a particular young society miss, Lady Charlotte, and is intent on making her his bride. Knowing that this young woman will be present at the evening’s ball, Jez, accompanied by her unsavory companions, including Leo, will be there to set their own plan in action. To ensure that the young lady in question does not marry Warren, they plan to distract her with another courtship. As Leo sets out to waylay Lady Charlotte at the ball, he finds an obstacle standing in his way, someone from his past…Genny.

Genevieve ‘Genny´Camden thought that her uncle had chosen well in selecting Mr. Warren as a bridegroom for his daughter, Lady Charlotte, but the prospective bride is determined to live while she still can. Siding with her uncle has caused a strain between the two cousins. Firmly on the shelf as an unmarried spinster without an income of her own, Genny must depend on her uncle to be clothed and fed. In return, her uncle has asked her to keep an eye on Charlotte, whose actions are threatening to ruin her reputation. So Genny does her best to see that Charlotte acts like a proper young lady. But then one night at a ball, she suddenly sees someone from her past and recognizes his intention to cause problems for her cousin. So she steps in before he gets a chance to speak to Charlotte. However, this only leaves the way clear for his equally disreputable friend Tristan to step in. As Tristan leads Charlotte out onto the dance floor, Leo follows, with Genny in tow, and dances not one, but two dances with her. Society takes notice and the next day, their activities are reported in the scandal sheets, which are soon in the hands of her uncle’s mother. Now Genny must walk the straight and narrow or she will be tossed out onto the streets. But she cannot forget their intimacies of four years ago. Their affair had ended when he suddenly left her. She had fallen for him and had hoped for much more.

Leo also remembers their passionate nights of long ago and wants to rekindle what they once had. Back then, he would have married her, but his father talked him out of it. He realizes that to win her now, he must win her trust and avoid the scandal sheets. Will he be able to get past the wall she has built up and win her love and trust after having hurt her once before? What will happen when she learns his part in Jez’s plans for her cousin?

A deliciously sexy tale, WICKED NIGHTS WITH A PROPER LADY, the first book in talented author Tiffany Clare’s DANGEROUS ROGUES series, is a clever, passionate historical romance that is sure to captivate readers from the very beginning. I really enjoyed the interaction between Leo and Genny, but I was also spellbound by the other members of the disreputable foursome and cannot wait to read their stories. Rich details, humor, witty repartee, sizzling passion, suspense, plot twists, charismatic characters,
romance, true love and second chances round out this beautifully written story, bringing it to life right before your eyes. After reading this story, I am eager for the release of the next addition to this wonderful series, MIDNIGHT TEMPTATIONS WITH A FORBIDDEN LORD, Tristan’s story, which is due out in May 2013. In the meantime, be sure to pick up your own copy of WICKED NIGHTS WITH A PROPER LADY. I highly recommend it!

First let me say, the writing was great, the story flowed well and for the most part I liked the characters.

I started this book fully expecting to hate Jezebel - what kind of woman asks her friends to ruin a young woman's chance of marrying well? And furthermore, what kind of men would agree to it? I am not a fan of the "ruin an innocent" plot line. It is just dishonorable and scummy. I don't care what happened and why you think you are justified - hurting an innocent third party is wrong.

So I began this book with negative preconceived notions, I was soon set straight, Jez never asked them to ruin the girl, just court her so she wouldn't marry the man who stood to inherit her estate. Not really nice, but not evil either. She really thought she was doing the girl a favor - twisted as that is. After being given glimpses of her life, I could understand why she would want to save the girl from marrying him.

Our hero Leo agrees to "help" Jez. When he goes to the ball to start his "quest" he encounters Genny, the girl's chaperone and his former lover. He then decides that he wants Genny back and will not follow through with his original plan.

Genny is shocked to see Leo after he left her 4 years ago. She is not sure why he seems interested in her cousin and decides to confront him.

The story seems simple enough to follow, but this is why I am torn. So many things didn't make sense to me or seemed a bit too unbelievable.

******SPOILERS*****

I didn't completely understand why Leo didn't go after Genny when he realized that he made a mistake by leaving her four years ago. She asks him and he says - I didn't think you would see me. So he never tried to find out what happened to her? And never even offered to make things right? You ruin her and leave, but never follow up to make sure she was ok? You just assume that she won't see you. UMM, Lame!

I also didn't understand Genny's reaction when she found out that Leo had originally plotted to court her cousin. I was blown away by her reaction - Overreact much? Her reaction in my opinion was WAY OVER THE TOP - totally ridiculous and unbelievable. Being upset and even angry I would have understood - but the way she flipped out was 1 - out of character for her and 2 - out of proportion to the actual transgression that was done. That she referred to it as a betrayal seemed stupid - he didn't betray her - he didn't knowingly and willfully set out to hurt Genny and in fact changed his mind about helping Jez when he realized Genny was involved - How is that a betrayal? Was he dishonest by not telling her from the beginning? Yes, but if I wanted to win someone back I sure the heck wouldn't start out by telling them what stupid thing I was doing wrong. And he never actually did anything and tried to stop his friend from doing anything as well. Not only that but he did tell her - there is a good chance that Genny would have never found out, but he didn't want to keep secrets from her.

So my final opinion was, the book was OK, I didn't love it and I didn't hate it. I don't regret reading it, but I wouldn't read it again. I will read the next book and I think this author has a lot of talent, this particular book just wasn't my favorite.

YAY! I made it. I was a little afraid I wasn't going to get this read before tomorrow. However, I have manage, and now doing a happy dance. Anyways, I'm super excited to share the latest read I read, which is Wicked Nights with a Proper Lady by Tiffany Clare. I'm so excited that I got a chance to read this book and I would like to share the story and why I loved it.

First off, it's always fun to read the start of a new series and this one is sure going to sizzle. Granted the start of the book is pretty much laying out the ground work for the other stories, so there is more to come. YAY!

At the beginning, you meet the three dangerous rogues: Leoniadas Harrow, the Earl of Barrington, Tristan, the Marquess of Castleigh, and Hayden, the Duke of Alsborough. Attending the funeral of the Earl of Fallon, mainly for moral support for the Countess of Fallon, Jez to them. And there is no question that Jez needs moral support, especially after the bastard that was her husband left her nothing. How you like that?

Never good to do something like that. It's just the making of a disaster for someone and whoever is caught along the path. So, Jez comes up with a plan to try to break a possible marriage between Mr. Warren (who is the future Earl of Fallon) to Lady Charlotte Lindsay (who is the daughter of Lord Ponsley). Jez doesn't want this alliance to happen, so she ask the help of her buddies Leo, Tristan and Hayden to foil the plan. What better way to do that than to compromise the girl?

Nothing ever goes according to plan especially when there is a delectable chaperone. Genevieve Camden knows all about rogues and the damage they can do. After all she fell in love with one and hasn't quite recover from the past. However, Leo sees a second chance to regain his first love and help Jez out. What can go wrong?

Oh my gosh, what a fabulous read. Once I started the book, I couldn't quite put it down, but I had to for things that had to be down. I mean the story had me aching for more as I read the book. First off, LOVE LEO! Once you get to know the rogue, you think he's not so bad. He's loyal to his friends and he is willing to try to get all he wants in life. Nothing wrong with that. Genny tries to please her family and basically jumps through hoops for them. I mean she's amazing. Another thing I loved from the book was the blurbs from The Mayfair Chronicles. You gotta love scandal sheets and I hope Ms. Clare continues those blurbs in her next book.

Overall, a sizzling read that I couldn't get enough of and I can't wait to see what happens in the next book. I mean with the set up to move into the next story it has you craving to see what happens next. So, now I just need to wait until the end of April. Ack! I have to so long, well I'm not alone in that. So, I leave to today and I hope you check this sizzling read, Wicked Nights with a Proper Lady.

Happy reading.

Four years ago Genny was a young debutante. She had a passionate affair with Leo but after the house party ended he left her and never returned. Circumstances have altered. Genny is now the chaperone for her cousin Charlotte, the dowdy spinster.

Leo and his three friends are notorious (although for what is never really made clear). The only female in his group, Jez has been made a widow which would be a cause for celebration if her wife-beating husband hadn't left every penny to his heir. Unless Jez is pregnant his heir, Mr Warren, gets everything and Jez will be destitute.

Jez has sworn revenge and she has heard that Mr Warren has set his eye on Charlotte so she forces Leo and their friend Tristan to seduce Charlotte away from Mr Warren.

Soon Genny and Leo are pitted against each other as Genny tries to keep her charge away from certain ruin.

Both Leo and Genny have never truly recovered from their affair, Leo certainly regrets allowing his father to persuade him that marriage would be a mistake and so their clashes are fuelled by sexual undertones. So far so good.

But Leo pursues Genny relentlessly. He rides roughshod over Genny's wishes and, despite his constant reassurances that he would never harm Genny's reputation, it seemed to me that every action he took was highly likely to harm Genny's reputation, especially since she was a paid companion. I didn't like that.

Genny and Leo also danced around each other and their feelings. I had no idea whether Leo wanted an affair or wanted to marry Genny. It later transpires that he wanted to marry her from the get go but wanted to see if they had anything in common other than lust. So of course he tries to have sex with her at every opportunity - 'cos that will help!

Much like other series I have read, the snippets in this book which foretell the inevitable books about the other members of the Dangerous Rogues seem more interesting. I guess time will tell whether the snippets are better than the books.

I think this was an okay book. I think there were some great basics and foundations but I think it needed a little bit more.

For example the whole premise is that the h & h met at a house party 4 years ago and had a passionate time with lots and lots of sex. Then the hero leaves because his father says that he shouldn't marry Genny. Umm yeah the guy is a lord and he had sex with a debutante. Normally that would be the basis for any kind of marriage. The fact that he would have sex with a girl and just expect her to marry someone else just doesn't seem right for the time period.

I also had problem with the ending. For once you have a hero that fesses up to his problems before the heroine heroes about it. What does Genny do, she flips and basically says if you love me you will never see me again. They make up at the end but Genny's forgiveness happens off the pages and the hero never really explains anything.

This also leads to Jez and Genny. Genny confronts Jez. Jez makes some smart ass remarks and Genny moves in with Jez. Then there is nothing except later on Genny says that Jez seems like a sad woman. I really wish there was more development there. For instance Jez could tell Genny about her husband and why she thinks the guy is evil.

Also there is the whole thing about the bad guy wanting to raises takes that affects the hero. That whole idea was just a basis for people to join together but it doesn't really go anywhere.

As I said this book has some great things. I really like the characters and I do want to see what happens to the other characters. I just wish there was more.

Genevieve Camdon and Leo Harrow, Earl of Barrington, meet during a house party 4 years earlier. Now they are attending another house party. She is companion to her her cousin.
Protecting her cousin's reputation and protecting herself from Barrington prove impossible. Genevieve is caught in a scheme to stop her cousin's impending engagement and future marriage.
The plot had strengths and weaknesses. The scheme to stop the marriage was poor and the fact that it caused a rift for the possible couple was hard to believe.
Genevieve's uncle, Lord Ponsley, was horrid. His attitude and treatment of his niece, making her a paid companion to his daughter, was outrageous. Understanding that women were considered to belong to their family and used to gain prestigious marriages and improve their families standing in society.

A tale of love, passion and some wicked nights. Another hit for this author. I have so enjoyed her stories. Another must read for historical romance readers. Bland, dull. In London May-August 1846, rogue #1 Leo Harrow, Earl of Barrington, meets old flame Genevieve Camden again at dinner, dance, shop, opera, greenhouse where he "can name just about every flower" p 168, but she suspects seduction. "He'd always appreciated her in the flesh" p 190. Their bodies instantly, constantly, vividly recall hot nights.

Likely sequels, Tristan, Hayden, and new widow Jez try to save Genny's cousin Charlotte from possibly villainous Mr Warren. More description of hair frippery than personalities. Nobody has any oomph. No action or mystery.

"What in hell? Goddamn it" p 109, Jez is with child. Skip, skip, "silky wetness" p 236. Skip, "scheme to ruin my cousin's engagement" p 288. Skip, end.

It was all right. But there was too much waffling in it for me. The hero didn't even think of marrying the heroine he basically secretly ruined years earlier, until the end of the book. Of course the heroine was a willing participant, but this is suppose to not be contemporary.
So the romance just wasn't ringing true to me. It was more lust. Especially when they met again.

This just dragged on. That is all that happened in this book. Two people having an affair, twice.

Just a bit shallow for my taste.

I absolutely adored the first books I had picked up from Tiffany Clare so I was extra excited that she was jumping in to a historical romance series, one of my favorite book genres. Unfortunately I was a little disappointed with the story compared to her earlier titles. I still enjoyed the characters and Ms. Clare has wonderful technique in being able to convey the richness and beauty of the ballroom and the overall setting. I was just missing a bit of conflict in this story. So this story wasn’t for me but I still love Ms. Clare and I’m excited about the rest of the series.

A titillating, fun excursion into Regency England and its twists and turns of romance. This story has what every good historical romance contains and that is a sexy, male specimen living just on outer limits of acceptable ton behavior especially as it pertains to relations with the opposing sex. And of course, the smart and sassy heroine is not left out. A very entertaining and steamy tale with its own ups and downs, but arriving at a happily ever after .

Kind of a slow read and at times it felt like you were going in circles but I did enjoy the theme of the book. And Genny was a great character though she almost takes over that of her love interest Leo.

It wasn't horrible, but I felt like the author played pretty fast and loose with Society conventions to make the plot work out the way she wanted, and the whole nonsense of the wager that so upset Genny felt very forced.

I really liked the background set up an characters in this new series! I honestly can't wait to get my hands on the others in the series. If the second is as good as I hope I will buy the whole series an add Tiffany Clare on my must buy list! Highly recommend.

I know I said this should have been a novella. Then I wad shocked at how abruptly it ended. Not too sure I will read the rest of this series or not.

It is the mark of a good romance when you read the last line and immediately look up when the next in the series comes out. I can't wait until April.

Ok, enough to make me want to read the next in the series, I was more intrigued by Charlotte and Tristan, then the two leads in this one, hopefully it only gets better in the next.
