Honestly, I adore werewolves. They're one of my favorite things to read, but this is a DNF for me. I read 110 pages and it made absolutely no sense. Werewolves playing football - no problem, normal. Werewolves being super protective of his mate -no problem, extremely normal. Randomly inserted death right at the beginning - what the?

There was no flow to this book. It just went from one random thing to the next, albeit it was all centered around the death, but that's the biggest problem for me. The way that death was played out made absolutely no sense and was more like it was thrown in out of thin air that didn't fit what was happening around it just to cause problems. Then the rest of what I read was just emotional turmoil and everyone feeling guilty over it.

It was completely boring and did not keep my attention at all. I was essentially just going through the motions reading it. Maybe the ending makes it better? Maybe they work as short stories and shouldn't have been put together? I was finally just tired of it. The only thing that was nice was the Alpha's second and only because he was funny.

Mason: You are an alpha male of your pack but yet your girlfriend basically ignores your rules, challenges you constantly and too be honest you seem pussy whipped.. huh..

Darcy: You think you can flirt your way out a gun hold up.. ...

The plot: A pack death so.. instead of mourning.. having a funeral, you know normal things. The alphas decide to practically fuck & then go for a run..

Did i like this book? Would i recommend this book? ...

It was a DNF at 37%.

I never considered myself much of a werewolf fan since vampires were my favorite paranormal characters--until I discovered Belinda Borings' Mystic Wolves series. Now my bloodsuckers have to share the throne for the top spot on my list. This novel contains the first three novellas in the series (Without Mercy, Cherished and Blood Oath) which is wonderful since new readers don't have to wait for the next title to be published--they're all contained in one volume.

Darcy is my favorite kind of heroine: strong yet vulnerable, mature, headstrong, faithful and loving. Her future mate, Mason, is the epitome of what every male alpha should be with his undeniable power, protective instinct and care. What made me love this series so much is the incredible amount of chemistry, feeling, romance and love shared between this couple. Their story has heart and warmth and I genuinely care for them and whatever plights befall them. Call me a diehard fangirl because I am. Action, intrigue, conflict, and tons of romance sets this series above others I've read. Looking so forward to the next title.

This book was So hard to finish and I def. dont want to read anymore of this series. I can sum up this book for you. Main characters: smooch, smooch, I love you, heated make out sessions- oops stolen girlfriend, stolen girlfriend returned, smooch, smooch, I love you, more make out sessions- stolen boyfriend, stolen bf saved, smooch, smooch, I love you.
Blah! I like love stories but this was way over the top most of the book is making out or internal struggles about wanting to make out when not in fact making out, with a little bit of danger thrown in around the edges with not a real strong reason for the danger. I was disappointed, with all the reviews I thought this book would be stellar I was sadly mistaken.

You know I try to remain objective about critiquing someone's life work, but this book gave me a headache and if I'd had it in hardcopy, it would've been flung across the room a number of times. Only sheer willpower led me to finish it.

First off, this is the first book in a series, but when you start reading, all this stuff has already happened. Darcy and Mason are together, war has been averted, and football has commenced. Boring later inserts a flashback showing us how they got together, but, at that point, it's anti-climatic. Why not make it a prologue at least?

Secondly, a supporting character is killed and someone who is very important to both Mason & Darcy. However, rather than mourning or dealing with the fallout, they go romping in the woods. Mason, who should be more devastated than anyone, seems particularly unmoved by the murder of a loved one. He eventually breaks down a little, but it didn't ring true to me.

Thirdly, it was hard to get a grasp on the culture of this particular breed of werewolves. During the first violent scene, Darcy makes reference to the idea that they are taught not to change, as if the wolf will take over, but no reason or explanation is given as to why. In addition, Boring allows her characters to utilize some wolf behaviors while still in human form, implying the human and wolf are meshed together. So why aren't they allowed to change? There also seemed to be some kind of psychic component to this werewolf breed as Darcy tries repeatedly to connect properly with Mason. Darcy and Mason also reference dreams that foreshadow finding their mates. However, the reader is never told how these werewolves came into being, how they evolved into what they are.

Fourthly, it was in first person and Darcy is, um, how to put this, not exactly what I'd call alpha material. She's an unreliable narrator because she's so focused on Mason and she, presumably, knows all the things that the reader doesn't, so she doesn't feel the need to think about them, leaving us in the dark. For example, we know that the humans are unaware of the existence of supernatural species. Darcy violently kills an attacker and then gets swept away by Mason. No mention of hiding the evidence, of DNA, nothing. The attacker has links to vampires, but Mason & Darcy just go la la la-ing into the woods. Yet, SOMEHOW, the vampires find out and show up. The plot holes, they are huge.

In conclusion, I did not enjoy this book. However, after writing this, I have come to the conclusion that I think it would have been salvageable. The biggest problems were the flow and the complete lack of world-building. There were no spelling or grammar errors. The funeral scene was lovely. Shifting some scenes around, adding some detail here, trimming some interactions between Mason & Darcy there, and you'd have a solid read.

If you'd like to form your own opinion, as of 6/15/12, The Mystic Wolves is currently free from Amazon and Smashwords.

Really, I'd only go 3½♥'s... but I chose to round up solely because the end left me swearing and opening book #2, Forget Me Not on my Kindle. There is a significant cliffhanger at the end of the book, like the last line practically.

I want to say that The Mystic Wolves had large amounts of world building, but it really didn't. Internal emotional drama, yes. Perfecting the art of sex without any actual sex (really intense kissing, basically), yes. And apparently I missed the memo somewhere about why they had to wait for some mating ceremony thingy (almost the beginning of book #2 has since answered that question.)

I'm keen to continue, but I wasn't bowled over by this first book. I am still looking quite forward to reading more from Belinda Boring, book #1 in a series is rarely a knock out of the park to start with.

I immediately feel in love with this book! I love how playful the characters of Darcy and Mason are with each other. You can instantly tell that they are great together and are destined to be together.

I went through so many emotions while reading this book. I love it when a book makes me experience so many..taking me for a very intriguing and satisfying ride. There are so many favorite moments I have in this book, especially between Darcy and Mason, and Darcy and Devlin. Can we say SWOON!!!??! There are of course your likeable characters and the characters you can't help but love to hate. Just enough drama without making it overbearing and just all about the drama. Lovely romantic moments, words, action, a bit of mystery, and rituals.

I absolutely loved the world that Belinda Boring built in her book and the rituals among the Mystic Wolves. Makes me wish werewolves really did exist so I could take part and know that I had a mate out there waiting to meet me that would be my perfect fit.

A definite must read people! You won't be disappointed!

Danger, mystery, and an awesome romance … Yep, this book had it all.

We start out The Mystic Wolves meeting Darcy, the future mate of Mason, the Mystic Wolves alpha, and I loved her right from the start. She’s fun, has a sense of humor, and loves getting into mischief alongside her best friend. And then we meet Mason … He’s, well, perfect. Protective, a bit possessive, strong, caring, and yep, he’s a hottie. The alpha of the Mystic Wolves pack is the perfect package.

During a backyard party and a friendly game of football, a small, seemingly unimportant choice to go to the store, turns the good time into tragedy. But when the pack receives news of another victim, what they thought was an isolated attack turns out to be more. Someone is sending Mason a message. Will Mason and his pack be able to find, and stop, the person behind this before anyone else becomes a victim? You’ll just have to read The Mystic Wolves to find out.

This story really was a treat. I giggled in a few spots, cringed in others, and of course, my favorite part of any book, my heart fluttered … a lot. Darcy and Mason were awesome together. Belinda did a fantastic job with the romance between these two. The passion, the love, all of it was perfect. I could feel every second of it, and loved it.

Aside from Mason and Darcy, I loved the character of Daniel. He added some much needed humor to the story, and I always found myself giggling when he was around. For the most part, there was just enough back-story to keep me clued in as to who everyone was, why they were there, and what role/supernatural group they were from. I would have liked more on some of the secondary characters, but there are still two more books in this series, so hopefully that will come.

So what held it back from being epic? Simply, it dragged quite a bit. Until I reached about the 50% mark, I wasn’t absorbed in the story. The first half was entertaining, but I could easily put it down, only reading a few pages here and there. But then something happened, and I just couldn’t tear myself away.

In the end, this was a great read and with the cliffhanger ending, I’m really looking forward to the next book. I can’t wait to see how it all plays out for Darcy and Mason.

If you’re looking for a relatively light paranormal romance, and you like werewolves, then try this one out.

I.HAVE.THE.BIGGEST.LOVE.HATE.RELATIONSHIP.WITH.THIS.BOOK. I'm serious I love it so so so so much but then it makes me want to rip my hair out at the same time.
Darcy, what to say about our heroine? She had good reasoning but she just lost it whenever Mason was around, which I understand a guy that hot has to draw attention but she goes from having the thinking capacity of a normal 20 something year old to a drunk, hormonal, love obsessed teenager. She was stubborn which was both good and bad. She didn't budge from her believes but her stubbornness got her in trouble.
Mason... Someone call the fire department this guy is smokin'. Actually screw the fire department grab some marshmallows we're making s'mores. He was just ideal. I love him. I want him. Darcy better back her wolf ass off. He's the typical Alpha, bossy and possessive but he cares so much for Darcy and the things he does for Darcy were just so sweet and perfect and seriously where can I get me one of him I'll wait in line for days if I have to. He's a good leader to his pack and he understands Darcy and doesn't really pull the " me caveman, you my woman, why you not in the kitchen** aggressively scratches head**"
The relationship between the two was great and steamy even though they don't seal the deal but the make-put scenes were amazing, they had me swooning. But my one issue was that it overshadowed the plot. It's good when the romance drives the plot but it becomes a small issue when it's more important than the plot. But don't get me wrong there was still a pretty good even if it was somewhat predictable.
Now the part that pissed me off. The Ending!!!!! What?!?Why?!? Kill me I can't, I swear if Mason pulls something I will beat that lovely, possessive wolf ass of his!!!

Few notes, 1) this was originally 3 novellas (Without Mercy, Cherished and Blood Oath) combined into one book (topping out at about 116 pages in PDF form). 2) I received this from the author (who I work with on blog tours) for an honest review.

Welcome to the world of the Mystic Wolves Pack--Belinda tosses us headfirst into the story, saving much of the backstory of how and when and why for later in the book. The story starts with a happy BBQ and football match between the Pack members, with Darcy and her best friend soon to be sister Jasmine heckling their Pack mates (mainly Mason, Darcy's future mate and Alpha of the Pack, and Daniel, Jasmine's crush). Things are just going so well you know something will happen, but surprisingly it takes a lot longer than one would expect. Its not until Darcy blithely says 'there's no danger' that you know Danger is around the corner.

Therein lies my problem with the book however. Pacing and time management. We have this pastoral scene that I know can't last, so I'm anxiously anticipating what exactly could happen to disturb the overwhelmingly happy scene and it makes me tense and suspicious of everything, asking myself 'What kind of trick are you?' constantly. When the bad occurs its like 'I knew it!' and ruins any tension I would have felt because I knew it would have to be pretty bad for that lead up.

The rest of the book is filled with reaffirmations and reassurances of love and protection, some intense make-out sessions that felt a little awkward considering what directly preceded them (ie: the Bad) and a discordant note I couldn't put my finger on until the ending when I realized what was disturbing me; for all the tension in the book, the emotional upheaval and the fall-out from The Bad, the romance between Darcy and Mason was never really in question. They make it so very clear they are in love that the romantic tension isn't there. And then the end comes along and the author decides to toss in a screw that really doesn't appeal to me just to add the romantic tension the book was missing.

Overall this was a mostly entertaining read and the crisis Darcy faces after the Bad, and her part in it, was interesting if drawn out overlong. I'm not really looking forward to how the new character, Amber, fits into the whole thing, but hopefully Mason doesn't off too much of an ass while he's handling the situation.

Series: The Mystic Wolves, #1
Category /Genre: Paranormal Romance, Fantasy
Received from: purchased on Amazon.com
Tour by: Read Between the Lines
Recommended for: 16+ due to violence
Grammar/editing: B – a few small errors

An innocent trip to the store for Darcy, the alpha's soon-to-be mate, and his sister, Jasmine, leads to the first volley of a war being brought to the Mystic Wolves Pack. Mason will need to lead his people while his personal world is crumbling. Who was behind the attack? Can they be defeated before the pack is destroyed? Before Mason is destroyed?

This is my favorite genre, so I have high expectations when sitting down to werewolf pack/romance stories. Ms. Boring does not disappoint! There was laughter and tears and tons of sexual tension. The humor is flawless. It is not easy to convey sarcasm and snarkiness, but Ms. Boring does it and makes it seem effortless and natural. I loved the characters. Of course, our main characters are Darcy and Mason. Darcy has made a purity promise until their mating ceremony. Until then, the sexual tension absolutely jumps off the page (or out of the Kindle in my case). Mason's sister, Jasmine, is also Darcy's best friend within the Mystic Wolves Pack. Between the two of them, the men are kept on their toes and happily under the girls' thumbs. I love the dynamics between the girls and their guys. Then there is Mason. He is perfectly swoon-worthy – alpha, handsome, protective, and yet vulnerable with Darcy. He is this ideal mixture of sweet and stern that gets my motor running.

I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the available books in this series (this month!). A huge thank you to Ms. Boring and Read Between the Lines for setting up the tour for the series. See you on the 14th with my review of FORGET ME NOT!

The Mystic Wolves contains the first 3 novellas in this series – Without Mercy, Cherished, and Blood Oath. I have read and reviewed Without Mercy and Cherished, but hadn't yet read Blood Oath. When I got the chance to review this book, I went ahead and re-read the first 2 parts to refresh my memory. There was some extra story added to the beginning, which I enjoyed. Each part flows together smoothly, so I don't think anyone would notice that they used to be three separate novellas.

The first two stories in this book really are heartbreaking. There are a lot of emotions running wild, such as grief and guilt. While Darcy and Mason are trying to comfort each other, more emotions come into play – like love and passion. Despite the pain that the characters are in, they seem to have moments where they are completely focused on each other, and these moments are when the steaminess occurs.

The last part of this book has some action and suspense moments, involving the wolves and vampires. The ending of the book contains a cliffhanger that is driving me crazy! I won't spoil anything, but I'll just say that I didn't see that coming and I can't wait to read the next installment.

This book is filled with great characters – including a lead female that readers can identify with and the swoon-worthy alpha male that you'll drool over. I think this book is okay for teenage readers. There isn't any sex – Darcy and Mason are waiting until their mating ceremony before taking that next step. That doesn't mean that there isn't any heat though – there definitely are some steamy moments. I really, really hope the next book comes out soon because I'm dying to know what happens next.

Favorite Lines “You can’t what? Confide in your mate? Explain why you think this is your fault? Share how you feel?” I threw my questions rapidly at him. “You asked me to trust you knew what we needed, and I did. You were right, so I’m asking the same. You need this now. Until you share the burden you’re holding onto, you’re going to be off balanced. Let me help you carry it. Trust me.”

“You never realize just how much someone means to you until they’re gone. What devastates me is I never got to say goodbye. I don’t even think I told her I loved her when you both left.”

“Cry your tears, but always remember, even in the darkest of times there is hope.”

I'm kicking myself for not starting this series sooner!
I love wolves, love the pack, love the well the love! This alpha is a little different though. He's so strong, so amazing!
Mason is a young alpha who has his mate but hasn't made her his yet. They are waiting for the mating ceremony and are so ADORABLE!!!
Darcy is living the dream she has her future mate by her side and her best friend on her side. Jasmine is Mason's sister and the sweetest wolf ever. When a terrible tragedy happens the world around Darcy crumbles. Mason is there to hold it up for her. Did I mention how freaking adorable they are?
During this tragedy by though I read about the most beautiful sending off and had me bawling like a big ol' crybaby! Yes bawling!
I'm diving into book 2 now.
FANTASTIC YA PARANORMAL ROMANCE SERIES!!

Ahhh love love love love. Belinda writes a fresh new perspective on werewolves and fighting for what you love! I could not put the book down, and wanted to devour every page, which I did but wasn't fast enough. Darcy, mason, Devlin and every other character stole my heart!

Darcy is awesome, kickass and doesn't take kindly to someone threatening her or her pack. Here she is with the alpha Mason(swoons, blushes and drools) and she is not going to give him up without a fight. This book starts out in tragedy and breaks your heart, I could NOT believe what happened and how much I hurt from the little I read and knew this was going to make it to the top of the pile.

Throughout the book you are sitting on the edge, freaking out and trying to think what is going to happen, where is she going to take these characters, what is going to happen and hoping nothing but again you are thrown into the mix and dying slowly! These characters pullout all the stop sand make you want more about them, where will they go, who will back who and who is betraying who.

Belinda pulls out all the stops and at the end when you think finally, finally some happiness you get punched in the gut! This is an amazing read, fast paced, and will keep your heart racing until the end. I recommend this to everyone who

I first started reading and stalking everything from this author by reading this book. Unfortunately I was not aware of doing reviews when I first started reading on a kindle. When I realized recently that I never placed a review for this book I was appalled. I loved the concept of this book. I especially fell in love with a certain vampire enforcer Devlin. Yes you ask this is a book about shape shifters but hey you can’t help but love this man. There is nothing that he won’t do for the main character Darcy. He is always there as her friend, confidant, and protector. I always wanted them to hook up instead of her true mate Mason. Mason is the Alpha of the pack and Darcy will be his mate. This story has so much steam without them even consummating their relationship it makes the reader need to go take a cold shower. Because I am reviewing this after reading Forget me Not and Testing Fate I can tell you that this is a must read to an excellent series and I for one will be looking for more into this series. Even my heart has melted some for the wolf Mason but I will never admit that to the author. Highly recommend this and author has it listed for free grab it while you can.

3.5 Mystic Wolves Stars

What an interesting story, I very much liked the interaction between Mason and Darcy. I did find myself wondering how old they were, they felt young. That’s not a bad thing, but I kind wanted to shake Darcy a little with her insecurities.

Mason does a wonderful job putting those insecurities to rest.

When a threat takes one of the pack members from them the wolves have to find out who and what and why. I liked how they all came together to find the cause. I kind of liked that vampires were more than willing to help and be allies.

Also when the heck was this mating ceremony supposed to be I felt like, come on these 2 Mason and Darcy need to get on with their lives it feels like they are in limbo waiting and we find out near the end. Cliffy by the way! Grrr but it wasn't a big, big one or anything but it does make me want to listen to the next one when it comes out.

I very much enjoyed this narrator too, she did sound a little young but I think she did an overall good job.

This was such a fun easy read. Originally it was put out as 3 novellas, but this was them combined into 1 book. I'm officially hooked now.
Darcy is such a strong female lead, the things that she's put through would make a lesser woman crumble. She takes it all in stride and it makes her stronger. Don't even get me started on Mason, *sighs* he is every inch the Alpha. He's dealt a few crushing blows, but he takes it all on his shoulders and still offers comfort to Darcy and his pack. What a man.
I think one of my characters in the book is Devlin, the vampire Enforcer. I loved his sense of duty and honor. I also really enjoyed the softer side of him.
Belinda Boring really has put together an amazing book, and you will not be disappointed if you read it. I cannot wait until the next book comes out!

This caught me off guard. I was not sure what to expect and found myself totally involved in the story. I liked Darcy from the moment I met her, she is a strong woman who has a strong sense of who she is and what she wants. Mason is the epitome of what an Alpha should be, strong, centered, capable, and devoted to the protection of his people. Devlin is the Vampire enforcer who is friends with them both as well as others in their pack.

They are being targeted by an outside force which wants to take over and destroy the alliance they have with the Vampire King. By attempting to break Mason through his loved ones, especially his future mate Darcy, this interloper has bit off more than he can chew.

A very nice introduction to these characters which has made me anxious to read the next installment and find out what happens to everyone.

I was very happy to grab up this book while it was free, it was one I had been looking forward to reading. I was not disappointed at all.
Starts out fun, funny and spending time with family/pack. Things change though, and you go through just as many emotions as Darcy and Mason.
I loved that no mater what, Mason always showed Darcy how much she meant to him. Even when he was hurting and needed the emotional support. Although, he would never show it, since he is the alpha.
Lots of twists and turns, and just when you think things are going to be ok-Bam! something else happens.
Darcy, Mason, Daniel and Delvin are a great team!
The end shocked me just as much as I could feel the shock in Darcy. I can't wait to read more.

The Mystic Wolves by Belinda Boring

2 Stars

I was given both ‘Mystic Wolves’ and ‘Forget me Not’ for review and when I began reading I thought I had accidentally started with book 2. The book began with a ‘pack’ football game that ended with a BBQ. Finding they had no sauce for the steaks, Darcy and Jasmine go into town to buy some, but end up being cornered by a gunman. The gunman was apparently a close friend of the pack and was secretly hoping to have Jasmine as his mate…even though he was a human not a wolf. At this point I was rather confused, so I stopped reading and went to check that I had infact started with book 1 of the series….I had!

By not having any background information it left me unable to connect to the characters. the fact that the gunman, ‘Gary’ was a close friend of the pack should have added shock value to the incident, but because we had not seen him before the attack the horror element was lost. It was mentioned that Darcy was new to the pack but there was no explanation of why she had come into this pack or what her life was like with her previous pack. There were things we should have been told but weren’t and this made the read quite frustrating.

The relationship between Darcy and Mason, her soon to be mate, was very strange. It was important that Darcy be ‘pure’ for the ritual, so the two had never ‘got it on’, but they were constantly making out and had no problems showering together or spending the night together. It is slightly unbelievable that young people could be put in these situations and not get carried away, especially as they were so ‘hot’ for each other!

It is no secret that I HATE cliffhangers and under normal circumstances I would be tearing my hair out when I get to the end of a book and don’t have the answers I want. That was not the case with this story. Cliffhangers that bug me are ones that have been a build up throughout the book and when we get to the end and expect a conclusion we are left with a blank page. This cliffhanger came out of left field, it wasn’t part of the story until the last page of the book and I got the distinct impression it was written as an after thought of ‘how can I get readers to want to carry on with this series’.

There are a lot of things I didn’t like about this work, the unnatural dialogue, the unbelievable interactions, the thin story line, the tagged on cliffhanger and the poor editing….(a lot of missing words, quite annoying!) but I did like the cover and I did like the overall idea. I am hoping that as we get through the series—I will be reading book 2, and then book 3 for the blog tour, that Belinda has gained experience and has been able to decide which information needs to be included in her books because of relevance and which don’t because they slow the pace.

The Mystic Wolves is the previously released first three novellas of the Mystic Wolves series, Without Mercy, Cherished, and Blood Oath. They have been bundled into one book.

The Mystic Wolves is one hell of an emotional roller coaster ride, told from Darcy’s point of view. She is the future mate of the Mystic Wolves Alpha Mason. Darcy is full spirited and enjoying life hanging out with her friends and pack mates, playing football and enjoying backyard grill parties when one small choice to go to the store changes everything she knows. Attacked and left to make choices that she never imagined she would have to make in her lifetime Darcy fights for her life. She loses something in the fight and begins to doubt all that she is.

Mason is the perfect Alpha. He helps Darcy through a horrible tragedy. He reminds her of all the reasons that he loves her, why he has accepted her as his mate, and that together they can get through this guilt that is affecting both of them. In return Darcy helps him with the stress that he is going through as Alpha, the blaming himself for the attack, the guilt he is experiencing over the consequences of his choices. Darcy and Mason are excellently matched! The love they feel for each other is an almost tangible element to this book.

Readers are swiftly moved into the working of the pack as they discover that the attack was not an isolated event. The Mystic Wolf pack must now unite to find out who would want to harm members of their pack and why. The overall flow of the book moves readers at a fast pace where the pages don’t stop flying by.

Stop at this point if you are not interested in reading a potential spoiler. I would have easily given this book a 4 star rating had I not had the following two elements presented to me at the last minute.

The last paragraph of the book is a woman that Mason knows (I’m assuming from his past) showing up on his doorstep. She throws herself into his arms declaring that she is his future mate. This combines two elements I hate in a book. The first is a cliffhanger. The second is a potential triangle. The declaration of I’m your mate may ratchet up the sexual tension, but it really ruins a romance for me. This may just be a personal preference on my part. Also, the fact that Darcy is a virgin and her and Mason is impatiently awaiting their mating ceremony to consummate things has brought the sexual tension up anyhow. It made the other woman seem very random to me.

Are you new to paranormal romance or maybe looking for a “light” paranormal read? The Mystic Wolves by Belinda Boring is a quick and relatively light read with moments of amazing humor, heart-breaking pain, a deadly mystery and hard determination to solve it. An innocent trip to the store turns deadly and the pain hits close to home for pack alpha, Mason and his future mate, Darcy. Someone is sending Mason and his pack a message, but who could willingly kill innocents with such brutal ease?

Struggling with guilt and grief, Darcy is determined to avenge the death of her best friend, but her hot-headed ways could only lead to disaster. Can Mason and his pack ferret out the vile coward making a play for power? Is it another wolf pack or is it other supernaturals with their own agenda?

Belinda Boring has taken a different approach to writing paranormal fantasy, without chapter upon chapter set aside for sensual moments, she gives us Fade to Back moments that are just as note worthy and sigh-inspiring without being “in your Face,” about it. Also missing are page after page pounding out gore and mayhem. The rest is delightful filler, enriching and rounding out this tale.

Ms. Boring has created unique individuals from the lethally somber to the incredibly comical and allowed the reader to draw their own mental fantasies regarding their futures in other additions to this series. For me, I found the simplicity and straight forward approach taken by Ms. Boring to be a refreshing break from more complex and dark paranormal tales.

I do love me some werewolves, and The Mystic Wolves has plenty! Not to mention some Vampires, Witches, and who knows what else is going to show up. Things start innocently enough with a fun and flirty pack football game and BBQ. But things take a horrible turn when some genius utters these famous last words.

“Relax, Bro. What’s the worst that could happen?”

A good chunk of the book is taken up with our main characters reeling and dealing with the tragic events that have unfolded. Everyone deals with things in their own way so let’s cut them some slack eh!?

When the big bad is rolled out, things devolve into a bit of a mess. They are a pack of wolves right? It’s unfortunate they don’t get to act like it a whole lot yet.

A bombshell goes off at the very ending that lets you know the drama will be flying in book 2 of this series. I know I’ll be continuing on to find out what happens.

All in all this was a pretty good book, I did feel a bit out of place throughout the whole thing though, like I missed an episode of the show and I don’t know things that everyone else seems to know already. I really enjoyed all the 4th wall book references, and the scene with Devlin reading was absolutely hilarious! It reminded me of Spike narrating a moment between Buffy & Angel. If you know what I’m talking about, you’ll know what I’m talking about! There were plenty of swoony make-out scenes that shoved up against the YA border so I’m curious to see how that’s going to progress as well.

P.S. : I just found out that this book is actually three different novellas that have been stitched together into one story, which actually eases my mind a bit and makes me look forward to the rest of the series with full novels.

Mason is the alpha of his pack. ... Hold up? You're the pack leader, but your girlfriend doesn't obey any of your requests. What? Darcy makes the worst decisions, flirting your way out of a gun isn't going to work. There was this death at the beginning. What's it supposed to make you feel? Grief? Sorrow? Joy? Pity? I felt nothing. Nothing at all. Death at the beginning of a book to me makes no sense. Just a waste of time to read that, we didn't get to know the character at all, aside from the fact that she was a werewolf who couldn't control herself or her "inner wolf".

The ending too. Cliffhangers don't bother me. But when a cliffhanger leads to a very predictable ending? Becomes boring. It wasn't even part of the story, the story did not build up at all for this surprise ending, I had expected an epic conclusion because I must say that the world building was good and the characters were well written too.(They're just idiots.) And the most likely love triangle? I've never read ANY of Belinda Boring's literary works, so I can't really base my opinion on the love triangle(aside from the fact that the new girl won't win Mason), because I really don't know how she'll write it.

I really don't have much to say. I also didn't like the fact that it just jumps to random scenes throughout the book during mourning period or after a make-out scene. However, I did like the world building and the unique characters, but they never developed...which is terribly sad. Ummm, let's see...I liked the fact there was no love triangle until the end(great job!) and there were some good characters that I would sort of describe as perfect(no names. (: )

OK, so I'm not entirely sure how I feel about this book. It didn't quite appeal to me the way I expected it to. I didn't dislike any of the characters, but I didn't connect with any of them, either. It felt like being thrown straight into the story for some reason. Something just felt incredibly off. I don't think the book was bad, per say, it just wasn't my thing. It felt so unbearably typical or something. I mostly skimmed, because I hate not finishing something. The thing with Avery was only slightly interesting. And why is no one questioning what he was saying about some power Darcy supposedly has? And that ending. Really? Was that necessary? That's definitely not the first time something like this has happened. The heroine and her love think they can finally be together with no problems when his "true mate" shows up to throw a wrench into things. And not only does the hero not deny it, he confirms it. I suppose it's as good as a cliffhanger as any, even though it's really typical and obvious, but it makes me want to see what will actually come out of all of that. Even though the usual thing should happen and the new girl won't get the guy. It should be predictable, but I'll probably read it anyway.

The majority of this book is centered around one girl's death. Can you say "Depressing?" And when it wasn't completely focused on the death, and the total grief that it brought, the main 'Love Couple' was left making out and getting very hot-n-heavy. Umm... Ok.. Let's pretend THAT makes sense.

Seriously, though. Even though there was virtually no action (there were maybe a handful of adrenaline-inducing action scenes) this book wasn't half bad.

I really did enjoy the romance between Darcy and Mason. I'm certainly not one for a romance-centered read, and I think that maybe the drama with dealing with the death of their family/future family member helped to break up the mushy romance, but theirs didn't bother me in the slightest.

I will say this, however; I seriously freaking hope that the next book has ALOT more action than this book saw. I don't do 'mushy romance,' and there's only so much of it that I can stomach before I go off and slap somebody just so that I get a freaking reaction.

If there was ever a more perfect blend of Love and Loss, I've yet to hear about it or thoroughly engross myself into its pages.

Oh boy. So I originally had this rated at 4 stars from the first time I read this. But I was also a teenager in high school, and this was the first book I ever downloaded on my nook. So safe to say, I didn't know any better just how awful this was.

1. Darcy is the worst.
2. Mason is hardly any better
3. Every kissing scene was the same and had me rolling my eyes the entire time.
4. That cliffhanger was awful and unnecessary. It just seems like a poor ploy to get people to buy the next book, which I'll admit I'm almost curious enough to, but not quite.
