“Imagine a killer who can kill at will from a distance. No gun, no weapon. Nothing more than a thought." Catherine Mans has the ability to see and hear what others can’t. With the help of Homicide Sergeant Cody Allen, she’s turned that talent into a successful profession as a psychic consultant. But Catherine’s past is coming back to haunt her. Someone is threatening the lives of everyone she loves. Nine bodies have been discovered, and Catherine is the FBI’s prime suspect. To prove her innocence, she must unravel the secrets of her past, and answer the challenge of a deranged psychic. Bet you can’t…FIND ME!
Have read a few of this authors books now and this is another solid read from her. I love books that have a super natural feel to it which this certainly hits the spot. Being part of a series means I have others to look forward to
Definitely recommend if you enjoy crime thrillers with a supernatural edge to it.
After reading and thoroughly enjoying Linda's other two novels The Gifts, A Jacody Ives Mystery and Sacred Secrets, A Jacody Ives Mystery, I begged her to let me read and review her latest, Bet you can't... Find Me before it was released. This novel is an intricately woven mystery that centres around psychic investigator Catherine Mans. Catherine is often asked to assist in investigating current crimes by Sgt Cody Allen. Their most recent case turns out to have links to Catherine's sad childhood, a childhood that has caused much confusion to her over the years. When strange circumstances start to affect Catherine's psychic abilities, and the body count rises, FBI special agent Brian Wilkes starts to suspect Catherine's role in the case. Will she be able to seek out the answers she needs to crack this bizarre case or will she be arrested as the main suspect?
Another book I was excited about but turned out to be a bummer, although you wouldn't know it based on everyone's reviews. This is a story about a psychic who is trying to find a serial murderer, only to find out that the killer is also a psychic who is able to possess people and make them do the killing instead. Sound confusing? It was.
The premise sounded clever to me, but turned out to be only confusing. Throughout the whole book I was lost, but it did all come together in the end. By then I didn't care.
I had high hopes for this book because of all the positive reviews and because it seemed like a good premise - a crime thriller with a supernatural twist. Also the author clearly went to a lot of trouble to get it properly formatted and proof-read, and the cover looks great.
Sadly it just wasn't very well written in my opinion. There were lots of points where I just didn't believe that characters, particularly in law enforcement, would act the way they did. I found the romance elements cringe-worthy, not because I don't like romance but because hard-bitten cops and feisty independant women suddenly become blushing, giggling and nervous. The plot isn't that complicated but the way it's told makes it feel convoluted. Also the ending has no real tension, definitely not a twist, because you've been told what will happen quite a long way beforehand.
I could go on but I really don't have the heart. There were some good ideas and if the writing was better it might have been a decent read. Unfortunately, for me anyway, it wasn't.
I came across Linda Prather after "going" to her joint book launch Facebook party with Mel Comley last year and I won Eternal Beauty, the second Catherine Mans book. Being someone who prefers to read series in the right (I can hear some book lovers out there reading this saying it's a "must") I downloaded "Bet you can't ... find me". And it sat electronically gathering dust.
I didn't know what to expect when I started the book but there was murder, intrigue and creepy psychic activity which made for an interesting combination! Having read Caroline Mitchell's latest offering, I have to say despite the lead characters in each series having a psychic at the centre of the action, this has a very different feel to it so don't be fooled that they'll be similar reads. Personally I find books from writers from across the pond do generally have a different feel to those written by British writers. I've not managed to work out why despite reading a number from both sides of the Atlantic. And then there are those British writers who have emigrated whose books have yet another feel but I digress.
The story starts with Catherine and her friends Rosetta and Cody. I loved the chemistry between the different parties of the trio; Catherine and Cody's mutual but unspoken attraction for each other; Rosetta's protective friendship towards Catherine, much akin to a mother hen. Wilkes adds a different dynamic to the group who treat him with the animosity he's probably due when he storms in causing upset!
I'll definitely be reading the follow up, Eternal Beauty and Linda Prather's legal thrillers featuring Jenna James which I expect to be less creepy but equally as enjoyable.
Psychics. Not something I would believe in or indeed think that I could believe in so I was very surprised when I found myself not cynical about this story! Linda Prather really drew me in and had me 100% convinced, there was no 'like that would ever happen moments'. I don't quite understand how she did that, if someone was to tell me a first hand account of something like this happening I don't think I could be as riveted as I was to this story. However, I was hampered by the fact I kept reading psychic as physic but that is no reflection on the author although perhaps I should get my eyes tested...
The story starts with a psychic Catherine, who is helping the police with a missing person investigation. Suddenly, the FBI appear and it seems that Catherine is wanted for murder, but did she really do it? The reader is taken on a roller-coaster journey following Catherine and 3 other characters as they try to get to the bottom of the strange happenings. At times it is unclear even who can be trusted or indeed if any of the characters can be trusted. The case finally takes them to Louisiana and the Bayou where the story reaches it's climax and resolves.
The whole way through the story I couldn't wait to read what would happen next, there seemed to be so many twists and turns that I couldn't predict what was coming. I couldn't read the story fast enough, a brilliant read that I would recommend to anyone who enjoys a crime novel, especially if they enjoy something a little bit different to the norm.
Catherine Mans is a psychic making a living as a consultant working with the police when needed and doing insurance jobs, mostly arson cases. The jobs pay the bills and the salary of her assistant/best friend Rosetta Tosallina and she lives a comfortable if lonely life. Until another psychic sets her up as a serial killer, taunts her psychically to ‘Find me.’ and proceeds to destroy everything she loves. Catherine has to find the killer before the killer finishes the job, but in tracking the killer she finds out things about her past she doesn’t remember. Strap yourself in, it’s going to be a high-speed chase.
A most excellent mystery! I was on the edge of my seat, metaphorically speaking since I was actually kicked back in my office chair with my feet propped up on my desk. The twisty turny plot progressed smoothly and quickly with no dilly dallying around. The characters were interesting and well-developed. I didn’t want to put it down and my peek factor was very high. However, like humans have told the Borg since they met, ‘Resistance is NOT futile!’ and I managed (just barely) to avoid peeking at the end to see who the killer was.
I love the fact the story concluded, but an opening was left for more to come. Bring it on! I’m ready!

"Bet you can’t … FIND ME" contains mystery layered upon mystery. There are the obvious questions about the main story thread, the identity of the serial killer that is murdering people close to the protagonist, Catherine, and making it look like she is involved. For the first part of the book, Catherine is also mysterious, as her secret past slowly comes into focus to the reader, other characters, and in some ways, even to Catherine. Last, some of the major players among the supporting cast have their own little mysteries, with questions of motivation and allegiance to unravel.
Catherine is the kind of character who is easy to like. As her past is revealed, she becomes more so, as the reader gains sympathy and respect for her resilience. It appears this will be the first of a series. The other supporting characters who are obvious choices to continue in the series are complex and should enhance the story, as they did here. Sometimes the first installment of a series devotes too much time to establishing the characters and not enough on the current story. "Bet you can’t …" has a different problem, setting the storytelling bar so high that it will be a challenge to beat it next time out.

Bet you can't get it out of your mind. I was so enthralled with this book from the first time I read an excerpt on Facebook that every time the cover passed on my timeline I wanted to cry. I was dying to read it. My feigning was not for naught. Most readers say 'from the first page I was caught' I have to say I was pulled in by Catherine's eyes and held tight by her story.
Linda did an awesome job making everything so believable I couldn't put my phone down. I can't tell you how many times I wanted to throw it against the wall because the screen was so small I couldn't read fast enough.
Great descriptions, translation of language, and transporter into emotions. To cure your boredom, and feed your imagination, I recommend this book.
This was so different from everything I normally read and I loved it! Intense, mysterious... a unique story line that I now find myself wanting more of! The characters were awesome. Each and EVERY one of them and the way this story is told leaves you turning the pages as quickly as possible! LOVED IT!! 5 stars!
This is one of those books that will keep you up way past your bedtime. It's a first-rate, page-turning thriller with a twisty, complex plot, interesting characters, AND intriguing themes. This book held me enthralled until the very last page. I highly recommend it.

"Bet you can't...Find Me" is a psychic mystery/thriller by author Linda S. Prather. The premise is that main character Catherine Mans is trying to hunt down and stop a psychic murderer who can possess the bodies of other psychics to commit crimes. The plot is interesting and well executed, keeping me hooked with the original storyline as I continued reading. I found the book to be different from many of the thrillers I've read recently, and I particularly liked the psychic vs psychic angle. The plot does take twists and turns, but I didn't have trouble keeping up all the way through to the end. This is the first book I have read by this author, but it won't be the last. Recommended for fans of supernatural thrillers.
Bet you can't find me is a mystery combined with another mystery. Catherine 's company is called Psychic consultant. She is working with Cody Allen on a missing person's case. He heads up the Homicide division. Cody is called into the Chief's office and told he will be working with Brian Wilkes of the FBI there have been a string of unsolved murders and they seem to have a connection to Catherine. Suddenly her world is turned upside down. Her phones are tapped and someone is following her. People she knows are being brutally murdered and someone is trying to point the Police to her as a suspect. Can her Psychic powers help her find the real killer?
The supernatural meets FBI. Murders monitored by the FBI are happening because of a connection to Catherine Mans because of her psychic abilities. They believe her to be committing them through her abilities. Now those close to her will need to prove she did not do it and stay alive in the process.
Are psychics the new zombies? Seems i've read more books with psychics in them in the past 6 months than in the past 6 years. Nevertheless, i did find this book suspenseful and interesting? I found the twists and turns within the realm of possibility. I will definitely read another book by this author. Recommended.
I was given a copy of this book for an honest review by LibraryThing
Catherine has a company called "Psychic Consultant." She is helping Cody Allrn who heads up the homicide division , on a missing person's case. They have developed a trust between each other and Cody believes in her ability to see things others can't. One day Cody is called into the chief's office. He has been informed that he will be working with Brian Wilkes who is with the FBI. It seems that there have been a string of unsolved muders that have a connection to Catherine.
Suddenly Catherine's world is turned upside down. Her phones are tapped and she has noticed someone following her and watching her every movement. People that Catherine knows, are suddenly savagely being murdered and someone is trying to point the police to her as the suspect. Is she guilty of these heinous crimes ? Can her psychic powers help her find the truth?
The book has many twists and turns. It delves into the voodoo, psychic world that has many secrets and spirits. It takes us into the backwoods of a town that is well known for spreading terror and fear on those thst don't believe in the supernatural. The author , Linda has written a book so intense and heart pounding , and filled with tension that I could not put the book down. She has done a great job of developing characters that are strong , supportive and have a willingness to sacrifice theirselves in order to save others.
This is my first book I have read by Linda Prather but it will not be the last. There is a second book in this gripping, nonstop action story that I have to read. Thank you Linda for a book that have all the elements needed for a must read.
I grabbed this one because I was looking for something a little different. I like to listen to audible as well as read books. So when I came across this one. It intrigued me. Plus, I have to keep it a little PG for the work environment. In this book we get taken on a mystery, beginning with strange things happening to Catherine. Including all clues pointing to her for being the murderer of all these bodies that keep piling up. Now to keep Catherine out of jail, It's up to Catherine and her friend Cody to discover what is really happening.
As Catherine starts to get closer to what is really happening, stranger things begin to happen, and she starts to fear for the lives of anyone she is close too. She starts going going back to places she hasn't been since she was a child. Places she couldn't remember, but all signs are pointing there, and she has no clue what she is really about to get into.
The author developed the characters well into the beginning and I only connected deeper with them as I kept reading. (Or listening as it was). This book had lots of twists, and definitely, an I didn't see that coming. It was very well written with a great plot that was carried out flawlessly. I was hooked from the beginning of Chapter 1, I knew I would enjoy this book. and I did. Very happy I read this one. Oh and also can you imagine... something you can't see, start talking to you? in a creepy younger girl voice, saying.. Bet you can't ........ Find me.... and you turn around and nothing???? I was hooked. Definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a good thriller, and something different to read.
To begin with, I wasn't sure that this book was necessarily for me. I don't tend to read books about psychics, but I quickly got drawn into the story and struggled to put it down. I was quite interested in a psychic helping the police, but what I really enjoyed was how creepy the story got! I loved reading about the Bayou and really enjoyed the different languages (with translations) that the author took the time to include.
On the whole, the characters were well-developed and interesting. Catherine was mysterious at the beginning of the book, which made it a little difficult to like her, but as the book progressed and I found out more about her past and the events that she had to go through, I started to really like her. I also really liked the character of Rosetta. She was fun, quirky and fearless. However, I didn't like the character of Cody and thought that he needed to be developed more as his character felt a little flat at times.
This book was interesting with many twists and turns. Leading up to the end of the book, I found it impossible to put down. I had absolutely no idea who the killer was, and just when I thought I'd guessed, I found out I was wrong! The author concluded the story but still left me eager to read the next book in the series, which is an impressive skill. Definitely recommended!
This is the story of Catherine. She is a gifted psychic who uses that gift to find missing people and investigate arson insurance claims. Now someone is killing off members of her family, and friends of her family - a family she had left behind 10 years before. Who knows her so well that they could do such a thing?
This was a very clever thriller with many twists and turns. Catherine was brilliant as the heroine trying to piece together her past to try and find out who the killer was, and why they were trying to frame her. The pace was quick and relentless and at times left me breathless. The descriptions of New Orleans and the Bayou made me feel like I was there. There was a huge twist in the tale and when the twist was revealed, everything else made sense! I loved the idea of using a psychic killer, after all how do you catch someone you can't see? The ending was climactic And seemed to leave the way open for more - possibly a series? I recommend this as a totally different kind of thriller - a psychic thriller.
When I bought this I did't realise the paranormal stuff was the whole story. I don't normally read this genre and my issues with this book exemplify why. Having said that is wasn't all bad, in parts it was a bit of fun but...
I know you have to suspend disbelief to read these sort of books and many of the thrillers that I do enjoy but please - make it somehow plausible and/or logical. I kept wondering "why did he/she/they do that?" There seemed to be no rationale for a lot of the Machiavellian intrigues. I mean wouldn't it have been much simpler to kill Catherine as a child???
I won't put any spoilers out there but as you're reading away (if you even bother to pick this up) just ask yourself why? Its like some people took the most complicated and convoluted approach so the story could incorporate even more paranormal activity. And there never was a proper explanation about how/why Catherine ended up with the Mansfields. Anyway, I'm over it.
On The BookWhisperer thrillers aren't something we see much of. This was a step outside the box, and broadening of my reading horizons. With little to no romance, and a suspenseful and terrifying story of murder and mystery from page one it is not something I would have expect myself to enjoy so well. Catherine was a very interesting character, and one that I must follow along closely. Nothing like me, she is someone that I didn't anticipate the next more, and find myself anxious to see what will happen next. This is very creative and entertaining journey into a completely unknown world full of psychic abilities and danger. While I wouldn't necessarily make the leap to say this was the best thing I have read; I do have to say that it has earned my respect as a good story. Maybe it will lead to a new horizon of thriller novels that I may have never dreamed to see.
This is not a book that I would have normally picked up but I did so as it was a group read. I have to say that I absolutely loved it. Very original concept and a story that I got completely sucked in to. The characterisation was fantastic and I cared about the goodies and wanted the baddies to get their comeuppance! I would love to read more from this author and also more from these characters, I really want to know what happens next for them!
I had to lower the review today, I realized when someone asked me how I liked this book today and I could not EVEN REMEMBER! It has been what 4 months and I have already forgotten EVERYTHING? So I re-picked up the book and went Oh ya....I remember this crap... Crazy psychic bullshit, some voodoo, alligators, and a lost twin. Lots of death and some bullshit to swallow so you can forget logic and finish the story... Hmmm make that two stars coming off today.....
It wasn't a bad story but when you are reading something that's pretty much based on fantasy, you have to take a lot on faith. I'm just personally more into stories that could possibly be true. This was more about the psychic abilities than the murder investigation. Like I said, it was well-developed, just not my cup of coffee.
One of my all-time favorite books. I love Linda Prather's writing and I can't wait to get my hands on her next books. This one does not disappoint and had me reading late into the night. If you're a fan of Criminal Minds, this has a similar feel but with a psychic twist. If this piques your interest and you're a psychological thriller lover, you won't go wrong with this book or this author.
I enjoyed this enough to get the next book in the series. Some of the characters felt flat, especially Cody, but hopefully he'll be fleshed out more later. Rosetta is a great character, although there eventually was a bit too much of the tea and cookies. So far, it looks like the second book is starting out well.
