This collection of funny, irreverent, but thoughtful essays were written between 1994 and 2004 when the author was “going through various transitions–from working abroad to coming home jobless to immigrating to Canada to coming home to take care of her father who died soon after.”
I didn't expect this book to be quite funny.True to its word, it is indeed Positively Mental. A nice change from all the depressing books and movies I've been dealing with lately.
elvira mata inspired me to write good essays and short biography way back when i was in highschool. for me, this is a remarkably good read. the wanderer, the anti depressant dependent, the depressed, the good daughter who missed her father so much. but her comedic writing will make you feel as if the book was a happy read. I even ended the book with a smile
I thought I was the only one, after reading Elvira's first book, I am not alone. Hilarious and honest thoughts of a smart woman coping with the ways of Manila.
Good go through a life of a columnist in the 1980s time. Mental health wise, its stimulating. I actually interact with the book where i put sticky notes about my thoughts about the lines and stuff
