Kiedy przeczytałam to w wieku 8 lat, zakochałam się tak, że co jakiś czas wracam do tej pozycji i za każdym razem jest tak samo dobra. Wspaniale wykreowani bohaterowie, wciągająca historia i przede wszystkim CUDOWNY klimat. Pomimo że jest to książka dla dzieci, to bardzo serdecznie polecam ją zarówno młodszym jak i starszym czytelnikom.

Przyjemna lekka i szybka

I read this book as a child and loved it. The acting, the cafe, a sister called Kitten, doing 'the costings' for the cakes. It all stayed with me.

I was very disappointed to discover that despite shelves of Enid Blyton and Chalet School, plenty of E Nesbit and even The Family at One End Street, this book was not still at my Mum's.

But this week my friend Marion, remembering a conversation we had had about it, gave me a copy for my birthday. The same Puffin imprint, with Harriet on the cover and scrawly, scratchy illustrations of Kitten, and cakes and the theatre inside. You know the phrase "she was transported back"? Well I really was, as I opened the book I knew exactly what the first sentences would be.

The story is still lovely but that's not really the heart of it; after 40 something years I have read lots of good stories now, probably some better ones. It is all the associations that it has for me. The main one of which is with my daughter, now 20, who is named after this Harriet (with a little bit of John Irving's Harriet Wheelwright and Jane Austen's Harriet Smith thrown in).

Lunchtime reading. I envy the days where girls could quite easily make friends with a random man in a cafe, just think of all the friends I'm missing out on now!
Wish I'd read this when younger, would have picked up some useful acting lingo and pepermint creams too.

Many years ago. I got my copy from the Donnell Library as I recall. Opposite the Museum of Modern art on West 53rd Street. I loved that library. Kids and Young Adult section on the second floor.

Miło się czytało książkę, która miała taki wpływ na moje dzieciństwo, właśnie w dzień dziecka. Pamiętam, że kazałam sobie czytać ją wiele razy zanim potrafiłam sama.

Jest to historia o Ani- dziewczynce o dwóch warkoczykach i o jej 5 lat młodszej siostrze Prudencji, nazywanej Kicią. Obie zatrzymują się u ciotecznej babki, kiedy ich ojciec wyjeżdża na 6 miesięcy w sprawie pracy.
Siostry szybko oswajają się z tymczasowym domem, który znajduje się na piętrze cukierni ,,Pod pierożkiem z Wiśniami", gdzie wystrój składa się z wiśniowych tapet, wiśniowych fartuchów i wisienek namalowanych na porcelanie, w których podaje się między innymi pierogi i ciastka z wiśniami.
Lekka i przyjemna książka, jednocześnie ukazująca lepszą stronę poznawania świata z perspektywy dziecka (i posiadania młodszego rodzeństwa).

Poza tym w polskim wydaniu cudowne ilustracje wykonała pani Maria Orłowska-Gabryś, dodając tej książce jeszcze więcej uroku.

Jakby ktoś chciał, to w internecie krążą dwa pierwsze rozdziały przeczytane przez aktorkę głosową o niesamowicie pasującym ciepłym głosie- Agnieszkę Kunikowską (znaną np. z polskiej wersji Fiony ze Shreka, Maksa z Maks i Ruby, albo Triss z gier Wiedźmin).

Niestety kolejny raz wspomnienia okazały się mieć niewiele wspólnego z rzeczywistością. Nuda, straszna nuda. I tylko ilustracje Marii Orłowskiej Gabryś wciąż przemawiają do mojego wewnętrznego dziecka. Choć chłopców nawet one nie zachwyciły.

To było takie przyjemne! Dokładnie to, czego potrzebowałam.
Sympatyczna i urokliwa historia pewnych dziewczynek, które jadą do cioci prowadzącej cukiernię.
Idealny przerywnik pomiędzy poważniejszymi lekturami czy na zastój czytelniczy. :)

This is an absolutely charming book. It was my favourite as a child and I spend many years trying to buy it in English (I read it in Polish). Finally found a first edition paperback. It has been out of print for a while.

Harriet has to travel to London with her sister Kitty to stay with an aunt because her father travels to Australia on business. She's unhappy and lonely until she learns about theatre and gets to star in a play. With the money she earns she helps the aunt who runs a little tea and pastry shop called the Cherry Pie. The book ends at Christmas with a happy unexpected visit from the father.
