And with this second book by Barbara Voors I will leave well alone. We just will not get on. This one was significantly better than the previous one I read by her, but I still found it pretentious, over-written and self-congratulatory. It is a very hard trick to pull off, to write literary fiction without sounding as if it's over-engineered. The language is fine. The plot in this was easier to follow, but I find the hint of other-worldliness of the characters, or their dream quality, grating. I just cannot forget the words and get to the plot and that makes the reading experience dull.
