Princess Whimsy Featherstone is shopping for her trousseau when she is kidnapped and sold as a pleasure slave. When she’s given to a stranger as a gift, she has every intention of denying him. However, resisting the sexy stranger is easier said than done.

King Gaedrian has been injected with fate, a drug that induces a pheromone enhancing mating heat. Every woman wants him but only one woman can free him. Whimsy may be that woman, but she comes from a world where giving into their desire will cause her to be an outcast. Can fate bring these two together?

Description: In a case of some seriously mistaken identity, Princess Whimsy Featherstone is sold to King Gaedrian as a pleasure slave. Gaedrian is quite unhappily under the influence of Fate, a drug that drives its taker wild with lust until he finds his true mate. Can fate bring them together?

The Good: This set-up is great and had me at go. And the world-building in WHIMSY is just terrific. As usual with Ms. King’s writing, the sex is off-the-hook H.O.T. and the build up to it is very well done. There’s also a side character named Dark, who is so cold-yet-complex, he stole every scene he was in. He deserves and truly needs his own book.

The Bad: While WHIMSY’s situation is well-developed, the character of Whimsy herself isn’t. It was difficult to understand why she kept her identity hiddent. An arc between her and Gaedrin’s mom is never fully resolved. Nor is Whimsy’s own inner-arc. She remains overly hesitant until the end, and she doesn’t ask questions to the point of being convenient.

Also, the end of the book, though fun, is rushed.

The Naughty: Erotic. Withheld sex. Virgin.

Editing issues: One typo. Weird dialogue formatting.

Publisher: Evernight Publishing

Length: 38,860 words

Final Grade: B

This book started off so well...and then it just ended. There was so much story left to tell and I am sure I would have rated it so much higher. Unfortunately, it felt like the author just got tired of writing and slapped "The End" on it without bothering to tell the second half of the story. If there is a second part then the ending to this book could have been smoother. I'm glad I trusted my instincts on this one and borrowed it.

This book way surpassed my expectations. I was just expecting a simple story. But I really fell in love with Gaedrian and I love how Whimsy was strong and fought Gaedrian at first. I could feel Gaedrian's sexual frustration. Oh the horrors! I like how he called her "Dessert." I also thought that Dark was a very interesting character and I would love to read more about him.

It would have been nice to get more resolution with her family in the end but overall I was amazed with this story. Would definitely read again!

This book is sooo much better than I expected!!!

It was recommended to me several times and stupidly I kept skipping it.

It’s short but so worth the read. I like reading short romance novels because I tend to only have 2 or so hours to spare. I find that I have to sacrifice the depth of the story, character development, and twist or revelations that I can’t predict. It is rare to find a short story that is satisfying to the mind, the heart, and my schedule.

Thank you Taylor King. This was an excellent read. I highly recommend this fantastic short tale.

Very nice subtly, futuristic tale. Only certain elements of the book focus on the futuristic setting, which for me was a plus. I hate to get stuck trying to picture a different world or planet. Back to the book....

Whimsy is a princess on a rare shopping trip away from her home planet and gets kidnapped. Her purpose become clear when she's bought and prepared for Gaedrian. Gaedrian is a man bound by a curse until he finds the one woman who can bring him sexual satisfaction. He's been going thru women for months and nothing has happened but all that changes as soon as he catch a whiff of Whimsy--- he calls her Dessert. (Hello!) Let me tell you, this girl has got the will of a saint-- she holds out as long as she can but love gets in the way and then.....Oh, yeah!
There is some royal intrigue and betrayal, just to make the romance a little harder. Also some interesting characters that I would like to see again.

3.75 stars. I enjoyed this romance story set in a world where space travel is commonplace. The futuristic society that the author introduces in this book is intriguing and many of the secondary characters leave the reader wishing to know more and hoping the author considers creating a series of sorts. I'd like Whimsy's sister, Veracity, Chaldor, Gaedrain's best friend and Dark, the beautiful cold mystical warrior to find mates and fall in love. The principles in this story are interesting and well suited as a couple. I enjoyed reading how Princess Whimsy Featherstone and King Gaedrain fell in love despite the unfortunate circumstances of their introduction: his being injected with fate, a drug that produces sufficient quantities of pheromone to endure mating heat, and she being captured and sold as a sex slave for him.

Another classic case of started better than where it was headed. Didn't bother to finish once prince shows up at her castle and is instantly arrested... The heroine was frustratingly dumb. Your fiancé lets you just get snatched up by guards, also with some girl at his side, and you don't think that was...disappointing? infuriating? suspect? And then he comes back to get you a longg time later, and also asks you to not tell anyone he was there (and you're like oh, okay!) And you also don't even think to let your prince lover boy know you're heading out? Won't even leave a note. Yikes.

Alsoooo the things he was doing to her while they pretended they weren't having sex because he didn't "pop her cherry?" LOL. If you want the spice with some plot, go for it. But you might just find yourself lifting a brow at the plot a bit.

Honestly, I think this book is incomplete. I expected so much more from this author after reading her other two books and was surprised with how unfulfilled the end of this book left me. The author just left way too many questions unanswered. Did Whimsy and Gaedrian live in peace and have children? If so, how did Editha take that? What becomes of Whimsy's family? Serri? Chardlor? What happens to Dark? Does he ever get rid of that coldness about him? Ms. King needs to definitely have a part II book where Dark and Whimsy's sister, Veracity, are the romantic pairing and she explain everything she failed to complete in this book. I gave it 4 stars because I really liked how different and unique the plot, characters and reality were, but the abrupt ending took away from it all.

The sex is smoking; the characters are well written and interesting. The plot was freaking fantastic! Whimsy is kidnapped and is now a slave to the great leader Gaedrian. He is smoking hot but under the influence of a drug called fate that makes him almost in heat until he finds his perfect mate. It’s a really great twist and utterly hot. I totally fell in love with the side character Dark. I NEED to read his story!

I advise you, do not to read Whimsy near a smoke detector; this book may just set it off.

Good Read

This is a good book. Short but good! But as always I would’ve like a full novel...it definitely could’ve been one; the author is awesome so a full novel wouldn’t have stretched the author’s considerable talents. I will say that even though it was short it was well fleshed out and didn’t lag or appear to be rushed or empty words on a page.

The story of Whimsy and Gaedrian was a slow simmer of hot with the potential of being a full out inferno if it was a full out novel. Recommendation is, get it. You won’t regret it but you will want more.

This was a good science fiction/paranormal. I liked how at times it seemed as if we were in an ancient world, and then all of a sudden you would be reminded that we were really in present tense or the future. I thought the end was a little rushed, hopefully there will be a second book and it will help to close some things that were left unfinished. As always with this author the love scenes were AMAZING!

Exquisite Encore

I purchased this book back in February of this year and just reread today. Thayer King’s writing is just as swoony effervescent this second go round. This is just the type of gorgeous fantasy that seduces you into its world: original premise, innocent and intrepid damsel, sensual manly hero, well crafted supporting characters, vivid settings, and a plot that keeps you riveted. Well done!

This book was really very good, the only reason why I didn't give it 5 stars is because it seemed to end with some of the plot incomplete, hopefully there is or will be a continuation. Dark definitely needs his own story, maybe even Whimsy aka Desserts' sister too.

Great read

I've owned this book for quite some time, and I love rereading it. So, as you can imagine, I would highly recommend fans of romantic science fiction to purchase this entire book series.

I Liked It

It was an old fashioned love story set in a sci-fi world of course. I hope we get to hear more about this world. I believe other books are coming.
