Kevin Smith is an ordinary guy. He works a plain job. Owns a normal, but disorganized home. And plays like every single man. In short, he is the average male. Until one day on vacation, he takes a run in the park and rescues a bag lady from mugging, after which his life is never the same.

The mysterious lady grants him one wish. Assuming the woman’s offer is false, Kevin returns home with thoughts of a past conversation in his mind. Later when he steps from the shower everything has changed. The disorderly home is no more. All his vacation chores have been completed. And most surprising of all he has seven wives.

Will this unexpected twist turn out to be the blessing he hoped for, or a curse he wished he’d never asked for?

This plot is pretty unique and a bit on the daring side, enough so that it completely intrigued me and I couldn’t put the book down. I had to know which way the author with go with this. While the pace of the book is pretty slow to begin with when it picks up it becomes more than entertaining and completely hysterical. There is a bit of a Dumb and Dumber sense of humor in the book that has you covering your face with your hands and going “ Oh Gawd Kevin!”

Review:

"Love Octagon" by Felicia Rogers was a good read. How Felicia Rogers told this story was really unique. I laugh so hard at all of the things that were going on in the novel. Truly "Love Octagon" was humorous. I guess you can truly say be careful of what you wish for. This was especially so for Kevin Earl Smith when he took a weeks' vacation. Kelvin had dated a co-worker named Angela but nothing really had come of it(so he thought). Kevin had many plans during his vacation such as cleaning his house, fixing the patio, and mowing the yard. Kevin had the guys over from work that evening (Mark, Fred, Jerry, and Tom) for BBQ. They all had an enjoyable time talking men talk and one thing that had been discussed from one of those talk shows was never having to lift a finger if you have multiple wives. It seemed that Kevin really did some deep thinking about this because the very next day when he is doing his run he stops a mugger wearing a ski mask from attacking
a old bag lady. After he chases the mugger off the the bag lady..she tells Kevin that he has one wish. Kevin had no glue what that meant. However, when he returned home strange things had happened... there was now clean laundry, clean floors- wiped cabinets, outside-the mowing had been done, broken shelf fixed and CD's picked up.This was very strange because he had not left his home clean in any way. This left
Kevin wondering who had done this.... his mother, friends, or gremlins?

The next morning upon awakening, Kevin has seven wives, nine children and a larger clean house. The thought of being in the Twilight Zone came to his mind! Where did these people come from? Now Kevin was wondering how all of these people could exist in one house and how in the havens could he survive this. Would he able to be with Angela... maybe as number eight? How would Kevin get out of this mess? Each day of that week was a interesting one and in the end was it a ........

Well, I don't want to tell you what happens next but this is a good read.. do pick up this novel to find out!

Truly, Felicia Rogers has a way with her writing that you keep you turning the pages. The characters were really interesting and I liked the one phrase: What happens during vacation ... stay on vacation. And yes, I would recommend the book "Love Octagon" as a good read.

Love Octagon is a difficult book to classify. Slice of life, sort of; humor, definitely. A morality play in one sense, but hilariously slapstick in another. Perhaps the best category might be inspirational chick lit, except it’s told from the guy’s perspective. Mister Mom taken to the fourth prime?

Author Felicia Rogers takes a few chapters to get into her stride, but once she does, the laughs don’t stop. [SPOILER ALERT] Kevin’s an ordinary guy, maybe a little messier than most, but he’s got good intentions. He’s taking a week’s vacation, not to get it on with good-looking Angela in the breakroom, but to clean his house so he can locate the floor and open the front door again. But he keeps getting sidetracked. There’s an entertainment with the guys, and the opportunity to sleep late, and he keeps running into Angela at various places, and she even seems pleased to see him. But that’s not getting his chores done, so to pull himself together, he goes for a run. When he comes across a mugger attacking a little old bag lady, Kevin chases the brute off and the bag lady--get this--tells him he can have one wish before she walks away, leaving him staring.

When he wakes up the next morning, he has seven wives, nine children, and a spotless, magically expanded house. At this point, you know what’s coming--disaster. Can seven women live in the same house without committing murder? Can one man survive them? And is Angela doomed to be Number Eight? An ordinary male overmatched by the house and kids isn’t a new plotline, but this presentation sure is, and the ending will have every woman smiling. The guys, well…

[END SPOILER ALERT] Author Rogers has a dry, straightforward writing style that invites sniggers even while I couldn’t decide whether to pity Kevin or laugh at him. The characters are delineated although difficult to keep straight without a scorecard, but I can’t say that interfered with my enjoyment. All in all, five strong stars counting the extra points awarded for sheer originality.

Should be required reading for pre-marital counseling classes.

Despite Kevin being a bit of a typical 'smack upside the head' male, you can’t help but sympathize with him. I mean seven women all on their monthly and one lone man. Yet even though you might find yourself sympathizing there is still a part of you that can’t help but feel slightly vindicated as we watch Kevin get his. As his character grows and develops there an even deeper sense of connection and vindication all though in an all together better way.

There are some editing issues that threw me out of the book but still I have to recommend it. If I had to compare it to anything I’d lean towards What Women Want. That chick Lit that inspires, brings forth emotion, a little romance, and humor that’s sure to leave you rolling on the floor.

This is a very humorous story that perfectly captures the old sentiment “The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence”. Kevin Smith only realizes this when he has to literally deal one of his dreams - the reality of multiple wives. It was a nice change in a chick-lit novel to have the main character and point-of-view come from a man, and the crazy situations that occurred had this reviewer laughing out loud at certain points. A recommended read.

Love Octagon centers on a young man who wishes for seven wives who will keep his house and do his chores. When he gets his wish, he realizes that multiple wives only multiply the issues within a marriage. Not only does he learn to be careful what he wishes for, but also begins to see his own selfishness and immaturity. While I enjoyed the book, I thought it dragged in spots and got a little repetitious.

If you are looking for a light read for the beach, Love Octagon will keep you entertained.

Be very careful what you wish for!

Reading this story I decided that Kevin Smith's picture was in the dictionary by the word procrastination. Why do today what you can put off until tomorrow. But it just seemed like each day, tomorrow never came. What is the saying? The path to Hell is paved with good intentions.

What would happen if a stranger granted you one wish and it came true? But your mind was focusing on the silly conversation at work with your friends, a wife for each day of the week and you would never have to do a thing? Yea, right, seven wives and lots of children in one household, nothing can ever go wrong there! So will this unexpected twist turn out to be the blessing he hoped for, or a curse he wished he’d never asked for?

"Your greatest desire shall be fulfilled, one wish you may build. It was like she'd been leading him down a path he hadn't been able to see. When his eyes were finally opened to his loss, his misery, his need for repentance, was when his life changed for the better." Now can Kevin and Angela find happiness when they get together and talk without others interfering?

Laugh-Out-Loud Entertainment!
This was a wonderfully entertaining romp from Felicia Rogers. It was filled with fun and likeable characters and was a laugh-out-loud ride! Some of the situations Kevin ends up in are nothing less than hilarious. Though this is a funny, lighthearted story there is a lesson to be learned. You will just have to read it to find out just what that is though. I guarantee you will find yourself giggling and even a little frustrated with Kevin as he tries to cope with a houseful of women & children he has all of a sudden acquired! Thank you Felicia Rogers for giving me some good laughs!

Wonderful mix of hilarity, magic, and repentance! What an imagination and a compelling read that I found very difficult to put down. The scenes had me laughing. The message of repentance and the lessons learned in this light book will be one I will remember for a long time. This will be a book I will want to read again and again.

I tried to finish this, but hated the characters, and the long, drawn out descriptions of every minute of the main character's day. The author tried to cast a humorous twist on it, and I appreciated her writing, but the characters and plot didn’t draw me in enough to care; they just annoyed me.

Kevin thought he knew what he wanted. He wanted multiple wives so his house would stay clean constantly. Wouldn't any many want such a luxury? Due to saving a woman in the park from a mugger, he finds his deepest desire come true. Soon that desire turns into a nightmare. Can he find a way to undo this wish or is he doomed to the mess he's asked for?

I really adored this story. I didn't at first. It was kind of mind-numbing. It seemed a little fake. I chose to stick it out anyways. I'm so glad I did. It was hilarious and adorable. I loved every bit of it! This definitely shows that people can change and better themselves. My only wish is that I could have seen some of the work buddies and Angela more in the book.

The audio book was great! The narrator did a great job. I loved his country accents on many of the characters. It kind of gave it a home vibe for me. It was a very impressive narration, to say the least. I'm amazed I got it listened to so fast!

I fully recommend this book! It's adorable! It's clean! It's wholesome! Let's not forget about the fact that it's so hilarious! There were many times I just couldn't stop laughing! It's a short and easy read, but it's so worth it!
