Number Nine—when John frees him from his cell in the power of six, he's ferocious, reckless, and ready to fight back. But being held captive changes a person—even a Lorien. See what Nine was like before his capture, and read about his dramatic escape from his point of view.
A lot of readers would hate Nine because of him being obnoxious. But I don't know why I didn't have the slightest disapproval of his character. Or maybe I already guessed that there's something behind that pretense.
Reading this book, I have learned the real "Nine". Having the fact that I found him being such a jerk to Four, I judged him too harshly. Now that I've read his part of the story, I can see why he became like that.
It's funny because behind that strong facade of his, lied a very distinct character similar to that of four. Just like Four, his Cepan died because of a stupid decision he made (Choosing to stay because of a girl). Unlike him though, Nine became more mature and reserved. What can we say? The hardships and pain he had to endure in that cell would definitely change a person.. (Six?)
Overall, I found Nine as the bravest and strongest of all the Garde characters I have known so far. He ended the life of the very person who took care of him and loved him as his own son, in an act of mercy. His legacies are superior too, giving only him the power of gravity. In regards to strength, Nine is definitely the strongest. If by chance Four is not the inheritor of Pittacus Lore's legacies, Nine must be it then (Hands down).
P.S.
Even with all the praise I'm giving him right now, my favorite Garde is still Six :))
I was a little apprehensive about getting into Nine's head. One of things I loved most about his character when introduced in The Power of Six was his mysteriousness. He was awesome from the get-go, and I was nervous to really hear his thoughts.
I must say, I was surprised. Although his story starts off differently than I imagined, it sets his character even more. Who he was at the beginning and who he is now are quite different--and very much in a good way. I liked seeing his character growth over this short story and in fact, it makes me like him even more.
Nine's Legacy is a great addition to this series, and I highly recommend it if you are at all a fan of the series!
Nine is one of my favorite characters in the series. It's interesting to see things from his perspective and understand what he's been through that has shaped him into the person he is. As reckless as he sometimes is, he is definitely one of the strongest Garde.
It was really nice to get Nine's full story. I have a much better understanding of why he is so stoic. I didn't enjoy him very much in The Rise of Nine (which I read before this), but I can now see the reason for many of his attitudes and choices. My impression of him was mirrored by how Four sees him through his narrative.
Nine, in The Rise of Nine, came across as brutish and irresponsible. Until the end, , just misjudged via lack of background knowledge.
The fact that he had only one encounter
I would say that so far, Nine has become my second favorite Garde. If I had to list them all in order of like-most to like-least, it would be something like this: Four, Nine, Eight, Seven, Ten, Six, Three, One, Two, & lastly Five . :D
To date, I have read the first three Lorien Novels and the first 3 Lost Files' books (all that are currently published).
Oh, Nine, of course, we knew the basics of his backstory in the normal books but here we get Nine's backstory as he and his Cepan stay comparatively well but things soon start to go bad to worse. This novella was wonderful and once more it's wonderful to be back in the Lorien world. But I would still take a small break from The Lost Files and finish reading a few other books and then continue.
People who don't read generally ask me my reasons for reading. Simply put I just love reading and so to that end I have made it my motto to just Keep on Reading. I love to read everything except for Self Help books but even those once in a while. I read almost all the genres but YA, Fantasy, and Biographies are the most read. My favorite series is, of course, Harry Potter but then there are many more books that I just adore. I have bookcases filled with books that are waiting to be read so can't stay and spend more time in this review, so remember I loved reading this and love reading more, you should also read what you love and then just Keep on Reading.
Giving this two stars pains me. But Nine is one of my favorite characters and honestly this novella didn't really quite do him justice. I wasn't a huge fan of the romantic element (a common trend in these books) and I wish there was more about Nine as Nine, instead of Nine as the boy who fell in love at first sight and made stupid decisions about a girl who is frankly unimpressive.
What is it with the guys in this series? Are they all going to become stupid for girls?
Nine starts out reckless and arrogant, making a stupid decision because he's bored and then inevitably facing the consequences. But that's not enough it seems, because he acts childishly, too, freezing out his cepan at a very crucial time because he 'needs time'. Sure, why not worry the guy to death and have your pity party trusting someone you shouldn't trust and ignoring almost everything you've been taught?
Anyway, as frustrating as he was, Nine has now become a serious badass with a huge grudge and his skills will most definitely prove useful to the remaining Lorien.
I enjoyed this far better than Six's legacy. This is because of 3 reasons. The first reason being it wasn't redundant in a sense. You can read all about six's past and how she got her legacies if you read all 3 of the books already. Even if Six's legacy was compiled in one short story where I could easily connect the dots, I didn't get a fresh perspective on her character. This is unlike Nine's legacy mainly because I got to know Nine better. I finally understood why he was being so mean to Four and why he was ready to kill all Mogadorians on sight without thinking much. He became more likable and the author succeeded in trying to make him look good. The second reason is because he made nine look dreamy. I mean come on, who wouldn't fall for a really shy bad boy with super powers and great hair? And lastly, the third is well because I just like it better hehehe
Number Nine is my favorite character of the series. Don't ask me why: I just love assholes like him. When I first met him, I thought "yup, I'm in love with him", and I wanted to kick him. But when I read his story, when I knew what happened to him... I wanted to hug him, protect him and put him into a crystal little box, where anyone could ever hurt him.

Nine is one of my three favorite Lorien characters in this series so I loved getting his background. You don’t learn much about him in the Main series, so this was really nice!
Ha sido interesante leer sobre la vida de Nueve antes de su aparición en la saga principal, aunque realmente no es necesario para leer y entender dicha saga.
I actually intended to read Nine's Legacy after reading The Rise of Nine. Which for a second thought, is wrong. As my friend send me a suggested pattern of reading the IAN4 series, I immediately stopped reading The Rise of Nine and went to Nine's Legacy.
Nine's character in the book The Power of Six is something I find to be interesting. As I've said before, Nine's my crush, of all the Garde.. so far. (I still don't know Five and Eight's gender eh.) As I read Nine's Legacy, I realize that somehow, Nine is a freak. I don't get it when he says that he don't like Sandor's way of raising him up. Like he thought that he wasn't raised as a Garde, which on some point is true. But I just think he had a peaceful 5 year stay in Chicago and that is really lucky for him. But I also get his point, he likes to fight, it's his nature. And now that he's got it, the consequences are layed down.
And then there goes Maddy. The very flirty girl that comes his way. I knew it from the start that Maddy's character is so suspicious to the point that she's being desperate of getting Nine into her. I knew it! Her hidden agenda is probably one of the main reasons for Nine's capture. Nevertheless, I can't fully blame Maddy, of course even I would trade anything just for my parents. But then again, the Mogs are so evil. Poor Maddy. But my Nine is poorer. :( Imagine killing his own Cepan?
NINE: Antigravity. Enhanced hearing. X-ray vision. OH NINE, I AM LOVING YOU MORE. I wonder what you look like. I think I want to meet you someday. Don't worry, I'm a Garde too. Hahaha.
Okay I guess that's all the nonsenseness I can think of, for now.
Next in line: Fallen Legacies! No idea what this is all about.
From the title itself, we can assume that we’re going to be seeing a snippet on Nine’s life. When the first short story of I Am Number Four: The Lost Files came out, it was about Six. I enjoyed the book but since I’ve already read the Power of Six (Lorien Legacies #2) prior to it, I felt that it was sort of a letdown since I’ve caught a glimpse of it from Power of Six. Now, if I read Six’s Legacy (Lorien Legacies #0.5) first, I probably would’ve been blown away by the story.
Alright, I’m babbling about those books when I’m supposed to be talking about Nine’s Legacy (Lorien Legacies #2.5). So, what’s my point behind all that? Well, Six’s life was very interesting but I have to say that Nine’s story was way, way, WAY better!
Truly every man’s downfall begins with a girl. Oh poor Nine/Stanley. All it took was crushing on a beautiful girl and the lack of variation in his everyday routine to make his comfortably lavish life crumble in front of him.
I never really played favorites when it comes to books with a set of leading characters but right now, Nine is my favourite among the characters from this series. This short preview of his life was all it took for him to touch my heart.
Again, I really enjoyed this book. And I can’t wait for the Rise of the Nine (Lorien Legacies #3). One thing I hope for though: is that there would be NO FREE REPEAT of this on the third book. Please! A few sentences or so would be fine but if this comes out like how Six’s story came about – NOT OKAY! It would just spoil the experience.
I really love these in between books for this series. They give you so much more detail about each member of the Garde then you would get from just reading the book. Number Nine's story is really interesting, getting to know him as a character is awesome. You get to learn exactly how he ended up in the situation he was in with the previous book and it sets up the next book really nicely, which I now can't wait for. His cepan, Sandor was really interesting as well and I loved learning about both of their backgrounds and how they stayed hidden for many years. Also, I really like how Number Nine aka Stanley is really different from the other members of the Garde and also how he changes over time, given what has happened to him. It really gives more depth to his character than what was shown in The Power of Six. If you haven't read both the two in between books yet you definitely should because they are really informative with plently of backstory. Go read them now, they are both awesome.
Yay!.. Nine’s story!! Having just finished THE POWER OF SIX where we were given a tiny taste of Nine at the very end, I was excited to get to dive into this and I have to say I wasn’t disappointed in the least. I AM NUMBER FOUR: THE LOST FILES: NINE’S LEGACY (The Lorien Legacies #2.5) is a pretty in-depth account of Nine’s history up to his appearance in book #2. He is an interesting character and a welcome addition to the crew in my opinion. .. Although, to be honest my interest was already more than peaked with his unexpected and bold introduction in the last chapters of THE POWER OF SIX.
Really I had no complaints with this mini installment and the reason for the four stars?... well, because at only 144 pages, I just couldn’t do a full 5. But have no doubts, this is a well worth investment/read (as long as it doesn’t put in a free repeat performance in book #3).
Nine's Legacy digs into Nine's POV and shows us how Nine was and what has shaped his character in the Lorien Legacies series. Nine was quite sheltered by his Cepan until a Mogadorian follows him home and Nine is forced to make his first kill. His Cepan encourages him to experience a normal life (well, a normal human life) and this sets off a chain of events that eventually lead to Nine being held captive in a Mogadorian mountain base for a year before Sam and Four rescues him (in The Power of Six, Book #2). Nine's story was quite tragic and I thought this novella was a worthwhile addition to the Lorien Legacies world since the series doesn't really delve into the back stories of the Garde members.
Wow, this novella added so much to Nine's character, providing not only backstory but then leading into his introduction with Four in the main series. Firstly, his relationships with his Cepan Sandor and a new teenage crush Maddy were well-written and, well, fresh. There was a big focus on a different kind of teenage lifestyle in Chicago, with rock climbing and car drives, perhaps to the other Garde. Then when the story takes its inevitable dark turn I watched Nine tested and broken, all the while developing his legacies. When the short story concluded, coinciding with the events of Power of Six, I felt a whole new level of understanding and attachment towards Nine.
I think that this book is awesome because we never really know what the past lives of the Garde before we meet them in the books! I hope that we see more like this for the other members still alive except Four, Six, and Seven.
I have never been a huge fan of Nine. This story gives some explanations to why he is such a jerk. I have enjoyed these short stories that give a little more background on some of the characters. However, I feel like in both cases I am guessing when their Cepan will die.
