Jack Prescott waited twelve years for his wife, Caroline. And then, the moment he found her again, he almost lost her. The son of a violent drunk, Jack grew up on the streets, and he understands better than anyone how cruel and dark the world can be. As a martial artist and former Army Ranger, though, he knows how to take care of himself and those he loves. Only one thing can bring him to his knees—the thought of someone harming Caroline. So he made it his mission to teach her self-defense…but not all of their time on the workout mat is work. When a violent monster of a man breaks into Caroline’s bookstore on Christmas Eve, Jack races to her side, all the while hoping his lessons have sunk in, because without her, life isn’t worth living.
Lisa Marie Rice is eternally 30 years old and will never age. She is tall and willowy and beautiful. Men drop at her feet like ripe pears. She has won every major book prize in the world. She is a black belt with advanced degrees in archaeology, nuclear physics, and Tibetan literature. She is a concert pianist. Did I mention her Nobel Prize? Of course, Lisa Marie Rice is a virtual woman and exists only at the keyboard when writing erotic romance. She disappears when the monitor winks off.
3,5 Stars for a short sweet epilog - we meet Jack & Caroline a year later.
Jack is in great form as always. A year later, and none of the energy has abandoned him...
This is a epiloge to the first novel Dangerous Lover, in the series "Dangerous", a book that ended a little abruptly (but with a HEA) and IMO needed this little follow-up. Nicely told, hot, loving and entertaining as always in Ms. Rice's stories.
I liked this follow-up to Dangerous Lover better than Reckless Night, ( the follow-up to Dangerous Passion). Even though this was too short also, I liked the story a little better, enjoyed how Jack is still a bit stalkerific towards his wife Caroline (he just can't get enough of her), and enjoyed a peek inside their marriage. Jack is hugely protective, wants Caroline to learn to be able to protect herself, and it's a good thing becuase Carlonine runs into a little trouble at her bookstore on Christmas Eve. I like how the plot played out, enjoyed the one hawt scene between the insatiable Jack and his lucky bride, but would've loved to have seen . Maybe that's for a future novella? 4 stars
This is set at Christmas time, and it felt just like a gift, because I loved Dangerous Lover and didn't want it to end. This short story is in lieu of an epilogue — Dangerous Lover really needed one, and I really needed to see more of Jack Prescott.
A year ago Jack found his lifelong sweetheart, Caroline. After some home repair, lots of hot sex, and an intense shoot-out scene, he married her (he was the one still standing when the smoke cleared. J). Married life has been good, and Jack, who grew up without a loving family, takes nothing for granted.
In the past year, Jack has been establishing his self-defense school (mainly for women), and consulting for the local sheriff's department. Caroline has been "loved good" by Jack :-)
She's also been working at her bookstore and enduring the self-defense lessons Jack insists on.
Now, as Christmas draws near, some children are enjoying story time at her store when suddenly...something evil this way comes.
Caroline gets to utilize her training and the children get to have hot chocolate and muffins. Peace on Earth and Mercy Mild to people of good will (that totally leaves the villain out). Merry Christmas to all, especially that poor abused woman in the hospital and her terrified son.
Suspenseful erotic romance, with some cussing and M-F sex, including an intense, wall-banging, "I almost lost you" session.
This author can get repetitive, like when her characters mentally hash and rehash things. Not so bad in this book! Maybe because she was constrained to only about 50 pages, Rice wrote a flowing plot, with few mental bogs.

Score Sheet Review Summary:
The Dangerous series by Lisa Marie Rice is one my utmost favorite erotic romantic suspense of the contemporary variety. Hot Secrets is a short, sweet and red-hot novella that takes place right after the very first book of the series, i.e. Dangerous Lover.
Taking place a year into Jack’s marriage to Caroline Prescott, the one woman whom he had never ever forgotten even through the long, hard and tough journey that had brought him back to her doorstep; through Hot Secrets Lisa Marie Rice allows us fans a much wanted glimpse into their happily ever after.
Jack might be besotted to the point of going crazy when it comes to his gentle and beautiful wife, but the one thing that he doesn’t let up on is his need to keep her safe, which is one reason why I fall so hopelessly in love with heroes created by Lisa Marie Rice.
Jack Prescott is alpha to the T, protective to the max and oozes a ton of sexuality just by merely existing in the story. Needless to say, I enjoyed every single minute of this little story which just drove home the point that I miss the beauty that is always a part of Lisa Marie Rice books.
For those who have never read a book from the Dangerous series, this is your place to start because if you are like me, you would be rushing out to buy the entire series before the day is through!
1.5 in the series Dangerous by Lisa Marie Rice. This story takes place about a year after Dangerous Lover at Christmas time. Jack and Caroline are married and Caroline hosts a reading for children at her bookstore. An irate, drunken step-father arrives to cause problems and Caroline is at the front line.
Felt more like an epilogue to Dangerous Lover rather than just a short story. There was a lot of explaining their history before the story really got started. Something that an epilogue wouldn't have done. Still, that is what it felt like to me. It was nice to revisit one of my favorite book couples.
I got this via NetGalley. I've only ever read one of Rice's books before, Hotter than Wildfire. When I saw this, I thought it was related to that series so I requested it, but it actually goes with the Dangerous trilogy.
First off, while the file read 58 pages, the story itself is only 30 pages. The other 28 pages are excerpts for the three Dangerous books. This is an Avon Impulse title so it's $3.99 and I don't think any 30 pages of new content is worth that price. The quality of the story is excellent, but I wouldn't recommend paying more than $1.99 for it.Edited to add that apparently Avon decided to drop the price to 0.99 for this title. I definitely recommend this now, especially if you just want to get a taste of Rice's work. Thanks to Lindsay for cluing me into the change.
This book accomplishes its purpose, however, as my immediate reaction was to check my local library for Dangerous Lover, the first book featuring these characters. It grabbed me right away and I was immediately invested, despite not having any knowledge of the back-story. The story packs a lot of punch for only 30 pages and I liked how smart the heroine was. I don't think it really functions as an epilogue, but Hot Secrets gives a glimpse of the characters' lives during their happily ever after and assures the readers they are still being the people we grew to love.
Bottom line, I'm definitely going to get my hands on this trilogy and I would definitely recommend this book as a quick read, but I'd wait for a coupon.
I thought this was a great addition to Dangerous Lover, the first book in LMR's Dangerous series. At the end of Dangerous Lover I wanted more and this gave a view into Jack and Caroline's life after marriage. In Hot Secrets a disturbed stepfather shows up at the homeless shelter where Caroline is volunteering and she has to not only stay calm under intense pressure, but use the training she's learned from Jack. For such a short read there was a nice balance of danger and sexiness. And with Jack, there was definite sexiness. If you're already a LMR fan or like the Dangerous trilogy you won't want to miss this one.
So, I picked up the novella the second I finished Dangerous Lover hoping it would give me a little more info on what happened after Dangerous Lover finished since it ended so fast. Sadly, this still didn't give me the answers I wanted and left me mad all over again because other things ended up happening that ended up not finishing out either. SIGH, leaves me so disappointed.
If anything this story only created more drama instead of answering unfinished buisiness. :(
Very quick follow up story one year after Dangerous Lover. You do get a quick and suspenseful scene at Caroline’s bookstore as she’s reading to children from the local homeless shelter and one of the children’s violent stepfather comes in wielding a knife and threatening his stepson. It’s still the same over protective Jack who can’t wait to start a family with Caroline (and I wish we got to see his reaction to that happening). Overall, it was a nice additional chapter to see a glimpse into their life a year later.
I really liked this check in with the characters from Dangerous Lover, they are settled and happy. Jack keeps wanting to train Caroline, but she isn't that interested until a normal day at the shop goes bottoms up. When all is said and done Caroline is now excited to learn more, waking Jack up to start, much to his disappointment, he would rather spend the time in bed.
Enjoyed this very short update on the first two characters, Caroline and Jack, from the first book in this romantic suspense series. It was short and sweet, some action, some lovin, and "some" updating. Primary setting was in Caroline's book store, First Page.
The rest of the book were previews to others in this series.
Cute short story even tho I wasn't a big fan of Dangerous Lover. Do not like the "c" word and didn't like how it was first used to describe Caroline's female parts and then used as a slur by a creep against another woman. I would just rather it not be used.
Jack and Caroline’s story is one of tight love, true devotion, and a violent encounter that leaves them both holding tighter. But their relationship goes back years to a time when Jack was not on the best road in life and Caroline was his light at the end of the tunnel.
I loved this story the first time and this time even more.
It's great, it keeps all LMR's writing goodness distilled.
It's the first short book I have read by her and I think she nails it, there are authors who don't succeed in writing short books after longer ones, but it's not her case. It's good for a LMR fix in between longer books 😊
How about another addition to the series? I want to know about children. There are lots more chapters to go. Friends to fall in love with other friends. Please consider it.
This is a very short little story about Jack Prescott and his wife from the first book in the series. It goes by quickly and it does have several typos. It was a quick read and okay enjoyable, but I didn't keep the book like I didn't keep the series.
