Lust in the Library: An Erotic Novella

Rate this book
Some like it hot, and some like it in the reference section.

Sara is having a love affair with books. But, since books can't make love to you, it means she's in the middle of a very long dry spell. Until a sexy Brit shows up. Suddenly she's learning just how stimulating a library can be--up against a bookcase, behind the card catalog, on the circulation desk . . .

Meanwhile, Veronica is incredibly frustrated. While Sara and her new man are using the library as their personal adult playground, she's stuck with only her thesis and her sexual fantasies. But Andrew, her crush, isn't above using his . . . assets to get Veronica right where he wants her: alone, in a darkened corner of the stacks.

Lust in the Library is broken up into two novellas, each novella being 50 pages. I had so much hope for this novella. I loved the premise of the sexy goings on taking place in the library and I loved that the hero in the novella is a British professor. But alas, neither novella rocked my boat and I was rather bored while reading them.

We are supposed to believe that Sara and William have been lusting after each other from afar yet neither one has been willing to make the first move. When they finally do, I expected explosions, hot sweaty make-out sessions that lead to hot, sweaty sex. Thanks to Sara's indecisiveness and insecurities, the lust was mainly green light with an abrupt red light. She put the kibosh on William several times and it got tiring especially since they had only 50 pages to get it on. When they finally get together, I was not impressed. It was not sexy, kinda boring and disappointing. I felt zero connection between the two characters and felt that them together was pretty lame.

The same goes for the second novella. I felt that the premise of Veronica's story was very weak and once I started reading it, I was in a rush to finish. Again, boring sex scenes that were kinda repetitive. A weird blow job given so that a book wouldn't be damaged by wayward cum. I found none of this sexy or erotic. I pretty much was shaking my head in confusion the entire 50 pages.

Lust in the Library was a huge disappointment. With the wonderful cover and awesome blurb and premise, I had such high hopes for this novella. I thought that maybe if this was a full-length novel instead of a novella, where the author could provide more back story and character development, that this could be something great. But then I think back to the uninspiring sex scenes and think, no.

To commemorate the Public Library Association Conference, which starts today in Philadelphia, let's talk about Lust in the Library.

Not book lust, although there certainly is a lot of that. Lust in the stacks. Wait, that could still be book lust.

I meant good old-fashioned hanky-panky in the stacks. And in the librarian's office.

Lust in the Library is a book by Amelia Fayer, subtitled "An Erotic Novella". And it definitely is that. But with a title like Lust in the Library it might as well be catnip to librarian (and archivist) erotic romance readers.

Escape Rating C+: This is short, sexy and a whole lot of fun. It's book/library themed adult mind candy.

Unfortunately, working in a library or archives isn't anything like the academic library portrayed in this novella. Darn it. So this story carries a consumer warning about not attempting these activities at your local library, especially if you are a member of the staff!

I picked this up primarily because of the library setting. I laughed out loud several times during this novella. While the sex was steamy, the dialogue was rather laughable (e.g. "You were both that obvious. He looked like he was just about ready to do some research on you."

Very short. There is almost no plot or character development, so the
encounters are quite unbelievable.

Libraries are usually boring and quiet, right? Not in this story!!! The librarian gets some action in the stacks and elsewhere in the library. Even her assistant squeezes in some extracurricular time.

Sara Owens is the youngest assistant head librarian of special collections at the university library; she's only in her mid-twenties. She's a hard working, follow-the-rules type of person. She hasn't had a boyfriend in a while, but has been intrigued by a handsome British professor-type guy who keeps checking out books on various subjects. William Hammond has been doing research in the United States, but is stalling on his return to Europe due to his desire to become acquainted with Sara, the beautiful librarian. When Sara finally picks up on his hints, with some help from Veronica, the sparks fly between Sara and William. Sara does has moments of doubt when her sense of duty is at war with her desire for the handsome William, but he convinces her to fall for him.

Veronica’s job is not clearly stated, but she appears to work as a circulations clerk, checking books in and out. She's a college senior, working on her thesis in the library during her off-duty time. She aspires to be a librarian, hoping to go into the library sciences program as a grad student. Veronica has recently broken up with her boyfriend, Andrew, because she saw him kissing her roommate. Little did she know that it was a misunderstanding since Andrew had a very good reason for what he did. Andrew had to work hard to convince Veronica of the truth, so he used all of his manly talents to win her back.

The narrative is very descriptive and does not disappoint. Down time barely exists in this novella as we go from one sexy scene to the next. I was a bit concerned that Sara doesn’t know much about William before they get together, but this is an erotic novella after all. In real life, how many librarians would actually risk their jobs to have sex with a patron in the library while it’s open for business? This novella is in two parts, with Sara and William’s story in Part One and Veronica and Andrew’s story in Part Two. Both parts are full of hot scenes in the library, fulfilling the title of the book.

Lust in the Library is an erotic escapade sure to increase the temperature in any room you read it in. Be sure to have something or someone nearby to help you out when it gets too hot.

Lust in the Library by Amelia Fayer
*A review copy of this book was viewed from Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review*

Part 1:
Sara has been going through a dry spell but that may be over if she can get the courage to speak to the sexy Brit that has been doing research in the library. Veronica convinces her to approach him in his favorite section and she gets more than she bargained for.

William’s research has been completed for a while but he continues to come to the library in hopes of catching the librarian’s eye. His requests are varied in hopes that she will ask him about his research but she doesn’t seem to notice him at all. He’s ready to go back to England but he’s hoping for an opportunity to stick around awhile longer.

Sara doesn’t think she’s good to attract William because she is just a librarian. She lacks self-confidence to approach him on her own but with the help Veronica she seeks him out in his normal research section. She never expected him to feel the same way about her. He caught her off guard that day, neither one of them expected things to get out of hand so quickly.

The sexual chemistry between the two of them was very hot. The sex scene in the library was hot and steamy and every book lovers dream. I loved how William wouldn’t let Sara just walk away either, he wanted more from her than just an interlude in the library.

Part 2:
Veronica is trying to finish her thesis but she can’t stop thinking about Andrew. She is mad at him because she thinks he’s dating her roommate, what she doesn’t know is that he and her roommate have been friends for years. He was just trying to help her out and she kissed him right when Veronica walked up.

Andrew doesn’t understand why Veronica won’t talk to him but he is determined to find out. He invades her personal space at the library and gives her something to think about. When he takes a trip downstairs for some alone time with his favorite art book, he never expected to have an audience.

The sexual tension between these two was evident from the beginning and when they finally get together fireworks can be seen. The scene with the art book was perfect; Veronica was torn between watching him and stopping him.

Overall I enjoyed both of these stories and give Lust in the Library 3½ Flaming Hearts.

“Necking in Nonfiction”
Assistant Head Librarian of Special Collections Sara Owens has long been lusting after sexy academic William Hammond. What she doesn’t know is that he’s equally drawn to her and thinks she’s uninterested. But with a little help from a friend, Sara and William soon find themselves, well, necking in the nonfiction section.

I had high hopes for “Necking in Nonfiction” simply because it features a quiet librarian and a hot British academic. But though I was ready to be delighted, “Necking in Nonfiction” fell flat for me. The eroticism simply didn’t appeal to me and the dialogue and protagonists’ actions at times bordered on juvenile, which simply didn’t fit the characters’ positions. Overall, “Necking in Nonfiction” was a miss for me.

“Fornicating in Fiction”
All Veronica wants to do is focus on her thesis, but her crush keeps invading her thoughts…and her space. Andrew’s determined to clear up a misunderstanding involving him kissing Veronica’s roommate and he’s not above using a little fornication in fiction to persuade Veronica to listen to him.

The plot of “Fornicating in Fiction” revolves around a big misunderstanding that’s fairly easily cleared up. At heart, Andrew’s a good guy who actually had a valid reason for his actions. Of all the characters, he’s the one who came to life the most for me. As with the first story, “Necking in Nonfiction,” Veronica and Andrew’s romance is more about sex than anything else. Had these characters and the storyline been a bit more fleshed out, “Fornicating in Fiction” could have been a solidly entertaining read. As it stands, however, it didn’t really appeal to me.

I like erotica and I like romance, but Lust in the Library didn’t work on either level for me. The characters, storylines, and dialogue tended to be a bit immature and the sensuality wasn’t my style. Perhaps others will enjoy Lust in the Library more than I did.

Working in a library, I just knew I could not miss this book to read and especially when I was in the mood for something nice and quick to read. At only 50+ pages , Lust in the Library is a fast-paced and sex-filled or should I say more lust-filled novella. Written by Amelia Fayer, Lust in the Library takes us into the heart of what seems like either a Public or University Library and we are introduced to the librarians on duty. Sara who is an archives librarian and we discover the youngest ever ( a bit like me and my children's librarian position) and her library assistant Veronica. Lust in the Library is split into two tales , the first is set in the Non-Fiction area and we are introduced to Sara and William- William is a Brit who has been conducting Academic research but he has another reason to use this library, he fancies Sara. Can the two meet between the Non-Fiction and finally get it on ? All will Sara need a bit more cohering - a push and a shove by Veronica ?
The second tale is more make-up sex rather than undiscovered sex and this time takes place between the Fiction shelves - maybe under "S" as we meet Veronica who is annoyed at her boyfriend Andrew as he kissed another girl. Can Andrew persuade Veronica to have a little fin at work in between the stacks ? Is it quiet enough for her to sneak off and to quote Cyndi Lauper's song "Girls just wanna have fun".
Lust in the Library is a must-read personally for all those librarians who ever wonder or dream of what it might be like to ACTUALLY have sex between the stacks or at least hook up near the books :P

I don't think I'll ever look at a library quite the same way again. This hot little short story will have you reaching for a fan and cold drink in the middle of winter.

Sara Owens is Assistant Head Librarian of Special Collections. Every day William Hammond comes to the library to do research. Well, actually he's finished with it, but he doesn't want to return to England just yet. He's hoping to catch Sara's eye and then her heart, but she doesn't have a clue.

When her assistant, Veronica, points out that Sara should make up an excuse to get to know him, she's hesitant. Finally, she goes to his favorite research room and sparks fly.

Meanwhile, Veronica is heartbroken because she caught the guy she likes kissing her roommate. Andrew was only trying to get the roommate away from a party before she could make a fool of herself, but that's not how Veronica saw it.

Andrew has no clue why she won't talk to him so he confronts her in the library. By the time the dust clears, it's plain to see how she got the wrong idea, and it's up to him to remedy the situation. And he does. In the library.

This is definitely a hot read for those of you who like some spice in your books.

As you can probably surmise from the title, this novella is definitely erotica. Unlike the book above, this one has some very steamy, yet tastefully written love scenes. There are 2 different stories within the novella. I think I liked Sara and William's story the best out of the two. They have been lusting after each other for months and when they finally do something about it, it is explosive. I felt like I could believe in their relationship and their HEA. Not so much in Veronica and Andrew's case. I felt like they were more immature about things that initially went wrong and I wasn't convinced there would be anything lasting.

While I enjoyed the short story, I did feel like there was a lot of repetitive phrases within the love scenes themselves. Veronica and Andrews scenes were very reminiscent of Sara and William's, so they didn't hold much appeal for me. I feel like the author would have done better to mix things up a bit. If you like erotic tales, then you will probably like this one. Give it a shot when it hits the stores.

What I Learned:

- is that there is still this giant stereotype about librarians. Through the short story, Sara did nothing but think she wasn't good enough because she was only a librarian. Librarians need a Masters in order to do what they do!!! That is a lot of hard work and dedication!!! It honestly makes me question what other occupations are misrepresented in fiction!
- is that as much as I enjoy a good lusty yummy erotica, I need me some back story. I think I can handle short stories as long as they were characters I had read in a longer story.
- is that I can't handle mousy women. Have a little pride and value in yourself!
- is that despite the fact that I REALLY enjoy lots of dialogue, I don't like being told things. I much prefer descriptions.
- is that yes, I may be completely over-reacting, but holy crap I can't believe they did that in the library!!! Pleasuring each other, masturbation, holy cow! As someone who has walked in on such behaviour at a library, I just.......
- is that I ultimately just did not enjoy this short story.

1/5 - I didn't like it

I'm not sure how to review this, or even if I should admit I read it. I am more of a Janet Evanovich, Robyn Carr, Susan Elizabeth Phillips school of romantic writing. I love books. The idea of librarians getting some was attractive to me, so I got this for the Kindle.
and a page or two into the book, I said "OHHHHHH." not quite what I was expecting. It a bit more...detailed than I'm used to. definitely more kinky. it was also really short. Novella? no kidding. almost more like a short story.
which I'd have been fine with it being a short story, only about Sara and her Brit. I enjoyed their story, what there was. Veronica and Andrew, on the other hand, were kind of unappealing to me. I didn't think Andrew's behavior had been appropriate, and so when he got high and mighty about it, that was just dumb. even their sex scenes were nastier and less appealing.
which isn't to say this is bad writing, I guess, despite some obvious typos. It just doesn't seem to be my genre. I prefer to leave a bit more to the imagination, I think. I loved the librarian part of the story. otherwise, it's a good thing this was only .99 for the Kindle.

So I saw this in the LJ ebook originals section, it was only $0.99, and I had a B&N gift card. So how could I not read it?! :)

I'm still not sure that erotica is really for me, but I certainly fall into the niche market for this one--librarians. Of course there wasn't really any character development or much plot or anything besides sex, because that's the nature of the genre. For what it was though, I thought it was pretty good. The first story seemed a bit less likely (librarian hooks up with complete stranger in her office!) than the second (college student and her crush finally work out their sexual frustration in the library), but both still worked out for their purpose. Some of the sex was sexy and some of it was just plain weird (save the art book by performing oral sex!), but it is was it is.

I think that if this is your kind of thing, you'll like it. Me, I enjoyed parts and laughed out loud at parts (that weren't meant to be funny at all), if that tells you anything.

Since this is a short novella, there’s not a lot of time for character development, and some of you may find that detrimental. But if you’re looking for something different and hot, this might interest you. It’s definitely for those of you who like some spice in your books, but don’t have a lot of time to read.

I enjoyed this short novella, but wish it was longer. I would have loved to have seen more the sexual chemistry build up, but because of the short length both female leads (Sara and Veronica) jump right into the affairs. The sex was well-written, but it would have been even better if we could have spent time with them both before and after. Still, I would recommend this to other readers.

As I work in an academic library, I felt compelled to see how the author would portray the librarians. Overall, she did a good job of putting the tale in a realistic context with the protagonists performing their duties properly. However, no library I have been in has had this much carrying on in the stacks. Read and enjoy the action.

I got this book on Amazon because it was an Avon book, it was free, and it looked hot! And yes it was! I'm pretty new to erotica, but seriously, how can you go wrong with hot library sex? And the heroes? Yumtastic.

I'm not sure why this has such bad reviews but I enjoyed it. Since its a novella I didn't have high expectations for character development/depth. Yes its unrealistic but its an erotica, let's be real. I still liked it though.
