Are you tired of the same old urban fantasy? Has the paranormal become just...normal?

Have you read enough stories about vampires, angels and werewolves for one (supernaturally long) lifetime? Try something a little different!

...a fun and exciting read that had me laughing out loud on more than one occasion. The romance was so much more believable than other books. Overall a great edgy read with witty characters, snappy dialogue and some great action scenes. There is something for everyone in this book. -The Shadow Realm

This book was intense...I have never read a book quite like this... - Booksessions

...Ignition was a good read. The characters were multi-faceted and likeable. The book explored all kinds of relationships in depth, not just the romance between the main characters. -Wading Through Electronic Ink

Book Description

Jes Anderson should be enjoying the last semester of her senior year. Instead, she’s been having nightmares about fire and brimstone. Her best friend ( and perennial bad influence) Amanda won’t stop harassing her to get a boyfriend. Aside from that, her life is pretty dull.

When a rival school burns down, Jes meets Seth Thomas and his sister Lily in the batch of transfer students. Jes is instantly taken with Seth—well, if taken means she thinks he’s gorgeous, but at the same time for no apparent reason she kinda can’t stand him? Sure, taken. Oh, and apparently he’s not entirely human.

His sister, Lily, on the other hand is undeniably cool and oozes confidence, and is equally stunning. Jes isn’t exactly sure what Lily even sees in her, but the two hit it off, certainly better than Jes and Seth.

Jes rapidly finds herself entangled with the two siblings, and as secrets become revealed, her life is changed fundamentally. So much for an easy semester.

Ezra has always enjoyed writing, probably more than his teachers would have cared for after the Animal Farm meets Warhammer 40k short story he turned in during high school. He continued doing things like that until he finally sat down and wrote a paranormal romance novel, Ignition, self-publishing it in 2012, followed by two sequels in the years to come and a mystery novel after that.

Character drives all of Ezra’s stories. He’s a firm believer in flawed, nuanced characters that may make you laugh, cry or curse them out but will never feel false.

After paranormal romance and creepy murder mystery, Ezra has turned his keyboard to a grounded (mostly) fantasy novel following a snarky witch who is an absolute mess.

Ezra is currently seeking a literary agent. If you are one or know one who might appreciate his work, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

I loved this book!!! It had all the things in it that I love! Humor, angst, suspense and some foul language!! Can I say I loved Jess!! She is the type of girl I would love as a best friend and partner in crime!! She was sassy, strong, brave, and just down right kinda badass! The secondary characters were great too! Her parents and little brother were soo funny and you could tell they all loved each other a lot! Her best friend Amanda got on my nerves and what she did to Jess was pretty shitty but I guess karma kinda gets her back! And Seth.....hmm.....what to say about him??? I really did like him. He was funny and there was definitely something sexy about him but I'm still kinda upset with him for taking so long to get with Jess! I mean duhhh she was perfect for him! And his sister Lily was great even though in the end........well can't give too much away. Any way she was hilarious!! All in all I recommend this book to anyone looking for a well rounded and exciting book. But I do recommend this book for older teens and adults due to sow bad words and a lot of funny sex innuendos!!! I can't wait for the second book!!!!!!!!

This book got into my hands around two or three years ago, thanks to the author himself! I remember he was doing a random giveaway of copies of it on his facebook page and I was like: “Hey, do you have another copy? Hey, i’d love to read your book. Oh, you do? Oh, great!” *gives address, thanks and fangirls*. I got the copy and three years later I finally decided to read it and I am so glad I did! And I’m also glad that I waited three years to read it, because I am sure that if I had read it back then, I probably wouldn’t have liked it as much as I did!

Moving on, moving on, let’s talk about the plot now, shall we? I really don’t know how to explain this plot without exposing little/big spoilers, so I’ll just work my way around with as much as I can. The plot of this book evolves around 17/18 year old Jessica Anderson (also known as, the main character), who just wants to finish her last semester of high school, enjoy her summer and then head off to college, but when Seth Thomas comes into her life, you can say that something else was added to her list of things she wants (you guys get what I’m saying, right, right?). Oh, and also there come new friends, weird dreams, strong feelings, confusion, drama and well. . .a little bit of everything, which is great! But that’s definitely not all, Jes knows that there’s something weird or unusual about him, and as you go through the pages of the story, you get to see how she discovers what he is (in the weirdest/funniest way possible) and how things change between them (and for her) from that day on. Don’t dare think that this book just evolves around Jes and Seth’s secret, because no, there’s so much more (that will make you scream and eat the pages off the book), you just gotta give it a try to see what the heck I’m talking about since I don’t want to give away spoilers. BUT, I’ll just leave these questions here: What exactly is Seth and where did he come from?

Now, my favorite part about book reviews; character talk! Through the pages of this book, we get to meet Jessica Anderson (mc), her family (mother, father and little brother), Amanda (her best friend), Seth Thomas (the new guy that comes from their rival in sports high-school that is a h-h-hawty and something else), Lily Thomas (yes, Seth’s sister), Cameron (CONFIDENTIAL) and some other CONFIDENTIAL characters. After thinking about it, I didn’t have any problems with the characters of this book. They were easy to understand and “get along with”, which was wonderful because that really helped me eat this book in like three days! I liked every single character and the way Ezra portrayed their personalities, but I have to admit that I completely loved Jessica (Jes), she was so funny, sassy, random and totally not your typical teen age girl from a book (which made me love her even more). And yes, I know this may sound weird since I’m always complaining about characters, but I loved them all and I need more of them!

To finish this, I’d just like to say: that I’m really grateful over the fact that this book ended up in my hands, I completely loved it even though it was something different from what I usually read, and I can not wait to continue this series when I get the chance! So now. . .aren’t you guys interested in what Seth Thomas is? Or in where does he come from? Or anything in particular? Don’t you feel it calling to you? Hmm. . .

I really enjoyed this book. It was a fun and exciting read that had me laughing out loud on more than one occasion.

I loved Jes. She was so funny and sarcastic and I could easily imagine myself becoming friends with her. Nearly everything she said had me bursting out laughing. She was hilarious! The one thing that I didn't like about her was how she started crying at the slightest thing. Don't get me wrong, she is one tough chick but she was a bit too emotional at times. Another thing that annoyed me was how easily she forgave her friend Amanda when she started going out with a boy she knew Jes liked. I though that was a pretty bitchy thing for a best friend to do and if I was Jes I would have been a bit more angry with Amanda.

I also really liked Seth. He was funny and dorky and seemed more real than the usual dark and brooding types that most YA books feature. He was a great love interest as you could easily imagine meeting someone like him in real life. Lily was also a great character. She was spunky and feisty and some of the things she said were just brilliant. Towards the end of the story though I started to feel so sorry for her as I learned more about the things she has faced.

The story itself was interesting. Nothing much happened in the beginning but things soon picked up about half way in. The paranormal aspect of the book really held my interest. I haven't read any books centered around these creatures. I was actually surprised when I found out what they were so that piqued my interest more. The romance was so much more believable than other books. There was none of the instant love that is in about 90% of YA books. I loved that about this book. I am a big romantic but there are only so many instant-love stories that I can read before it gets dull.

Overall a great edgy read with witty characters, snappy dialogue and some great action scenes. There is something for everyone.

*Content: There is a lot of strong language used so for that reason I would recommend this to older teens.

Teaser:
There were so many scenes where I was nearly crying with laughter but here is one of my favorites:

"'Sup playa?" Lily answered.
Jes didn't miss a beat. "Sorry, I thought I was calling my friend Lily. She's super white, so she's not really allowed to say things like that. Maybe you know her? Dresses kinda skanky but only because she probably has daddy issues?"
Lily chuckled. "Ouch! You're mean today. I kinda like it..."

This is a weird one for me. I’m going to start with the negatives first in this review, which is a little backwards for me. I usually want people to read all about what I like about a book first. That being said, you have to promise that if you read the negatives, then you absolutely MUST proceed to the positives! Otherwise, you’ll be greatly deceived about my overall opinion on this book.

Negatives
Okay, so here’s the bad for me. The first thing is Jes’s character seems to do a flip flop for me at the beginning of the book. At first she seems like a timid, quiet, book worm, but then she does this 180 & she’s one tough chick. She still holds onto a little of the girl she starts out as, but she still seems almost like a different person. I suppose boys can do that to you, or yes, even girls. Which brings me to the next thing I didn’t care for. There’s a little bit of lesbian action that takes place. It’s just not my thing. That’s me, though. There are no sex scenes in the book, just make-out sessions. Also, for any mom’s wanting to know what to expect for their teen readers at home, there’s a bit of foul language and some very violent scenes.
I think the kindle version could definitely have used a little more editing, but it wasn’t so much that it took away from the book. There was a scene or two that seemed a little unbelievable to me. Lastly, there were plenty of times that the characters got on my nerves, BUT it was typical teenage behavior and realistic.

Positives
So, my “negatives” list is pretty long. Here’s the kicker – I STILL COULDN’T PUT THE BOOK DOWN!!! I know, crazy right? It irked me in so many ways, but yet Ezra must have been brilliant, because I couldn’t stop reading. Ezra keeps taking you through all these twists and turns, and you just can’t figure out where it’s all going to end & you feel like you HAVE to know! This is sci-fi, romance & suspense all in one!!

I really enjoyed this read. It's a different take on the succubus character. Plot, descriptions and dialog was fantastic. The humor was down right laugh out loud. Towards the end I got a little frustrated as I felt like the author was trying to hurry and end the book. I wasn't too keen on the girl/girl kissing/lusting scenes but I guess that comes with the story line...all in all, a great read. I am looking forward to the next installment. I would like to see more action and lusting since this is a story about succubi. The only real big scene was between two girls and it really wasn't that much compared to other things I've read.

Edgy young adult book with some romance, some paranormal, some great action scenes and fabulous witty dialogue. Snappy characters and a great leading lady you really root for.

This book borders between 1 and 2 stars. I think this is another book I got because it was free. This is the first time I can recall reading a book where it seems like everything is being taken place is from a third point of view/third person. Nothing really interested happens until I was 60% into the book. I mean it’s a teen book and it looks like the big secret was a teen girl liking this new transfer kid who she finds out is a succubus and his sister is different too. I was thinking she might have been a vamp but near the end you find out she’s like him too the female succubus and they both like the teen girl Jessica referred to mostly as Jes. His sister (Lily) gets upset because Jes cares for her brother and she is afraid of being alone so she takes Jes best friend Amanda back to the world they are from. But before this situation Jes was kidnapped by people from where Seth and Lily are from to take him back. Jes got away and I thought this was what the story/conflict was about to unfold but nothing. So Jes goes back to his planet to get Amanda to bring back to earth but the circumstances remained the same so the Lily takes Amanda again and jumps through the portal to a place Seth can't find her. And that it folks that's how the story ends. Anyways, to me nothing was solved there was no plot really and I couldn’t wait to finish it to move on to another book.

Aaaaaand I couldn't finish. Maybe one day when I'm very bored. But.... Meh. It was written in 3rd person, which I'm not a big fan of. And if I had to read about Jes looking in the mirror and liking what she saw one more time I was going to throw my kindle. I'm a bit disappointed because the premise seemed good, but I don't want to waste my time getting half way through a book to see if I can hang on too the end. Again. Maybe later but for now... Jes... Stop it with the mirror.

This book was pretty well written. I was a little surprised at some things that happened that I don't usually read about, so am not sure if I would read other books by this author, but he did well writing the story. I was frustrated with not really having Seth's feelings for Jes cleared up. I would have liked to know how long he had feelings for her, etc. this book is for older teens and adults.

- It was good... but not great. I mean yeah the plot was okay and it seemed pretty straight forward, but the romance was shifty at best and the author made one of my favorite characters a complete ass. Also the main character, Jess, was always angry about something! She was like RAWR and GRRR everytime she was left out of Seth's loop of information. It was very irritating at times.

I liked it. I've started the 2nd and I'm kind of disappointed. This one had action and angst which carried the story well. I hope Backdraft picks up. I have a bad feeling I'm gonna be mad at a bunch of fictional characters and that alone cracks me up. Jes' family is great but she needs to pick better friends. lol

The writing was so bogged down with uninteresting description about Jes and the plot just moved way to slowly. Should have been a much shorter book.
