This nonfiction picture book has simple descriptions of what magnets are and can do. I read it to my 1st class to introduce the unit on magnets since magnets is part of Georgia’s 1st grade science standards. I recommend bringing in real magnets to engage the students with the book since the book mentions how opposite poles do not attract, and students will be better able to understand this concept by seeing magnets tried out.
What a wonderful content book about magnets and their properties/characteristics! Most children are very curious about magnets and love to experiment with them. I really liked how the author made a connection between magnets and video games. After reading this, young children will swell with pride when they go back to their parents and impress them with their new understanding/knowledge of their video game console!
S3P2. Students will investigate magnets and how they affect other magnets and common objects. a. Investigate to find common objects that are attracted to magnets. b. Investigate how magnets attract and repel each other.
This book could be used to teach students the basics about magnetic attraction. Students could then have an activity using the magnets to help them really "see" how magnets work. This would be a fun activity and would work well in a 3rd grade classroom.
This non-fiction book is about magnets and what they do, It begins by defining magnets with kid friendly vocabulary. Then it explains what items magnets attract to and repel. The book closes by discussing objects that contain magnets such as a compass, refrigerator, washing machine, etc. This book can be used for small group reading in younger grades because of the way that the book is written. It can also be used to identify new science vocabulary.
This is a picture book that would explain to children, grades 3 - 5, how magnets work and what kind of metal magnets will attract. It will help children to make connections by explaining appliances in the household that use magnets. This book will help to meet Georgia Performance Standards S3P2 and S5P3.
What Magnets Can Do by Allan Fowler is a book that can be used during an explain portion of a science lesson on magnets. It teaches students about what different objects can attract to one another or repel. It also shows students real world examples of magnets which is great for students to understand and connect to their everyday life. I would use this book with students in 3rd-5th grade.
This series of books thus far has been 'not above' what my special needs teen age sons or my 2 year old granddaughter could start to understand...but this book was written for older children...although still a good educational book. It just wasn't good for my children I read it to... but the wording and the education in it is fun and not just boring...
This will be a good informative book to 1st and 2nd grade students when teaching about the concept magnet. If the teacher us the real magnet during reading this book, the students will be more engage with the book and can easily understand the concept.
i enjoyed this book. It is all about magnets and how they work. this book was actually read in my first grade class and the students were amazed at the information in it. they couldnt believe what it was telling them and they wanted to test it out to see if it was true
Great for an introduction to magnets, and what they do. It poses questions to the reader and then eventually answers those questions. Gives a basic overview of magnets and is an easy read. Grade: K-2 Magnets
This is a good book for students to have when they are learning about magnets. It has a good combination of text and many full color pictures. It is a good book to use to introduce magnets before the children actually get into learning about them.
This is a picture book that shows children, grades 3 - 5, how magnets work and what kind of magnets will attract. It will help children to make real world connections that involve magnets.
