Michael Lesy’s books include Angel’s World and Long Time Coming. In 2006 he was named one of the first United States Artists Fellowship recipients, and in 2013 was the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship. A professor of literary journalism at Hampshire College; he lives in Massachusetts.
Profiles of four photographers, none of whose work interested me. I bought it because a description of one of them, a recluse who thought he was an angel and obsessively photographed people and places of New York, sounded interesting. It's since been republished as a separate work, Angel's World.
Anyway, Lesy does his usual thorough research into each of his subjects. It's not his fault I thought their lives were more interesting than their art. I find his books about historical photos more interesting.
