Wolf Kahn was a German-born American artist known for his colorful oil and pastel landscapes. He was evacuated from Nazi Germany as a child as part of the Kindertransport and was reunited with his family in the United States. He served in the Navy and earned a bachelor's degree in fine arts from the University of Chicago. He was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship in 1962. On January 12, 2017, he was awarded the State Department's International Medal of Arts.
His work has been exhibited in numerous museums, including the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the Smithsonian Institution's American Art Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the National Gallery of Art, and the Art Institute of Chicago.
I had a hard time putting this coffee table sized book down - I was interested in Kahn's life story, but also in what the author had to say how how the artist's style evolved, and about his choices of color. The plates are luscious - I want to see the actual paintings very much now.
