In the year 878, England trembles under Viking attack - but the deadly Danes are being snatched by sea-monsters. What does this have to do with some stolen zoo animals and a mad bull scientist from the future? Only McMoo, Pat and Bo can find out!
Steve Cole is the slightly crazy, highly frantic, millions-selling, non-stop author of Astrosaurs, Cows In Action, Astrosaurs Academy, The Slime Squad, Z. Rex and many other books (including several original Doctor Who stories).
He used to edit magazines and books but prefers the job of a writer where you can wear pyjamas and eat chocolate all day.
Steve just can't stop writing - if he does, strange robots appear and jostle him vigorously until he starts again.
In his spare time he loves making music, reading old comics, thinking up ideas for new books and slumping in front of a warm TV.
I read this book in mind to use for my Year 3 class (7-8 year olds) for our Saxons and Vikings topic at school.
This book was brilliantly funny! I loved the idea of cow secret spy agents, very different! Also it meant that the book was full of cow-related jokes and puns, which I loved. Like moovillous, ter-moo-nator. It had me chuckling throughout, and I know my children will enjoy all the puns as well.
So in terms of Saxon/Viking information in the story for use in a classroom - this book features Alfred the Great and incorporates the tale of him burning cakes while in disguise and fighting for his kingdom. It has more focus on Vikings and about their fighting skills, but it does mention the Saxons briefly.
I would say this book is more suited for a class story rather than a book to 'study' for factual information. But it will suit the topic well and the children will love it!
