If you had any feelings that Enchantment was a fluke, you were dead wrong!
On my review of Enchantment I said it was a sweet love story... if that's true Taken it's slight darker counterpart. While I really enjoyed Enchantment I lovedTaken. I had not expected to like Enchantment so much when I picked it up but it pleasantly surprised me. Taken pulled me out of my chair into a gripping adventure, it was absolutely more my style. I still feel like you can safely let your teens read this series and enjoy it with them. It still has the same charm and wittiness of book 1 but as the saga progresses we gets pulled deeper into Channie and Josh's magical word and the endearing love story.
Charlotte Abel has proven that she can stand the heat and keep producing magical adventures for her fans to get lost in and I plan to have a front row seat!
This is just the Blurb I wrote after reading the ARC, I will finish it and still do one of my full reviews soon! But it just released so I wanted to get something up!
READ it!!!!! It's another steal at .99 cents just like Enchantment, highway robbery!
I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
It’s always exciting to receive an advance copy of a book you’ve been dying to read. You feel a little special and nervous at the same time. You wonder will this book be as good as the first. Will I be able to honestly give a great review after the author shared their hard work with you?
Let me just say, I have no problems here. This book starts off about right where we left off. Channie and Josh together at last but in a perilous situation no less. But if you thought that Channie and Josh would have a break with at least being together, think again. Charlotte Abel imagination is vast. This story is no less “heart on the edge of our seats” than the last.
I can’t say anymore because I honestly hate giving spoilers away. I think a reader should go in with an unbiased mind to enjoy and get the whole experience. I only leave spoilers when I really need to make a point. So if you enjoyed Enchantment, you will not be disappointed with this story. The cliff hanger was a killer, but aren’t they all if they are written well?
For all those that read book one, don’t delay. Get reading already. For those that haven’t, check out Enchantment, then get to reading Taken.
I recommend for mature audiences. The book is not overly explicit but there are mild sexual scenes in the story.
My book boyfriend is Hunter. I love Josh, but Channie might put a spell on me. So,is girl goes for who is available.
I had the wonderful opportunity to read this story. And I must say, Charlotte Abel has outdone herself. The story of Channie and Josh runs twist and turns that rival a modern day roller coaster. Never say that things get easier for those two, because it didn’t.
Life together brought on a whole other set of challenges that this couple had to face. Being independent wasn’t easier than living with their families. Like all people, mistakes would be made along the way. Charlotte capitalizes on this to write a story that would leave us breathless in spots.
With this story we move around the country as the tale unfolds with new challenges along the way. Young yet older, they are faced with decision to make that thankfully many their age would not have to. Throughout though, you asked yourself, what would you do for love?
Oh, Hunter is more in this story than the last. Older and a bit more mature, he seems to take everything in stride. He brings another element that I enjoyed and look forward to more of. Channie’s parents still have their issues which only complicate the mated couple’s existence. We also get to see more of Channie’s sister and her kids which is a bonus. Those triples are a hoot.
All in all, this is a great page turning follow up to an amazing first story. Charlotte proves her imagination has no bounds and I look forward to reading the next installment of this saga.
I received this book for the author for free for an honest review.
Okay Charlotte Abel you are now one of my favorite authors!! I loved this book. It was better then the first one because the characters are coming into their own. We get a more mature sense of Channie and Joshes relationship, even if it includes a lot of sex lol. I like how we get to see Josh learn and grow with his powers. I liked how Hunter, even though he was in love with Channie step down and let Josh be her man and helped josh when he needed it. I like how we learned more about their families and heritage and how they came to be where they are. I liked how Abbey was so willing to help Channie sneak out to see Josh.
I still can't believe how abusive verbally, mentally and physically Channies parents are to her. Her mom is even going to try and kill her. It's sickening. Even so, I can't wait for the next one. I want to know what happens after the ending Charlotte put on this bad boy. It was so mean to have an ending like that!! Now I want the third book today!! Oh well only a month away.
I should say that this book was better than the previous one. The characters have grown and with them the author's skills. The beginning was a little slow, and kind of made me want to slap Channie and Josh for being such crybabies. It felt like the only thing Josh wanted to do was have sex and that's it. It was so annoying. I was so glad about that encounter with the two trackers, that you wouldn't believe it!! Finally everyone was rushing to do something meaningful! Something other than argue over a pot of stew or killing mice or making cornbread. But, all that annoyingly normal stuff was kind of insightful of the characters' thoughts and feelings. And I liked how this time there were multiple points of view. It was nice to hear Josh's thoughts for a change. This novel seemed to take the story to a whole new plane. There was action, lots of running away from things and people, strong emotions and of course - every decision came with its consequences. Towards the end, everything was so intense, I was having hard time breathing. It was really an exhilarating ride.
The characters: *Channie - Oh goodness, this girl irritated me so much with her weird decisions! Protecting Josh would've been much better if she'd actually listened to him. Besides, how could an Empty protect a powerful mage? She brought more trouble than anything else.
*Josh/Valor - I can't wait for him to actually step into his real shoes. Josh is a boy, while Valor is a man, and I really want to see the man. He's been peeking out from time to time both with resolution and cold-blooded decisions. Too bad nobody listens to him half the time. I guess though that this is what keeps the story going. I mean, if everything got solved right away, then there would be no story, so I get it :)
*Hunter - omg, Hunter was hilarious. And the new job he got - it cracked me up!!! I can honestly not imagine him doing those things. His accent was amazingly well portrayed.
*Daddy turned out to be not-so-selfish after all. I felt really bad for him when his wife turned psycho.
*Momma - urgh, just URGH!!! Magic here was like drugs in our world. The woman got seriously addicted and it turned her all Wicked Witch of the West. I really wanted to just see her dead. Harsh, but true. Sorry.
The ending was really powerful. It made me all emotional, but I didn't cry. I was just angry. Such a cliffhanger, Charlotte!!! You're playing dirty!!! LOL Love it :) Really a great read!!
What a ride! Taken is the second book in the Channie series and I absolutely cannot wait for the third!
The title: Perfect – although I didn’t understand it until the very last chapter.
The heroine, Channie: Young, honest, considerate and real. She doesn’t always make the best decision, but all her decisions are pure of heart. Channie is one of those fictional characters that I’d like to hang out with for a day.
The hero, Josh: He is level-headed, strong, and deeply in love with Channie. I like that at least one of them has a normal family for support because they are put into the absolute worst situations.
Hunter: Wow, an incredibly strong character that provides great humor throughout the entire book. I enjoyed every scene he was in and the Las Vegas job search had me laughing out loud at 2 a.m!
Money: (Channie’s Dad) I didn’t like his character very well in the first book but I grew to love this character and the sacrifice he was willing to make for his daughter. There were other exceptional characters as well, but these are the four that two weeks after I read the book, are still crystal clear.
This book had amazing action, a well thought out plot and meticulous attention to detail. I wish I could give it more stars. The ending was unexpected, someone died (No spoilers) and the murderer was a complete shock – I still get angry just thinking about that scene! Bottom line – I loved, loved, LOVED this book! It is exceptionally written and two weeks later it’s still very much on my mind. HIGHLY recommend to all YA, Paranormal Romance, Urban Fantasy fans!
It really makes me so very happy when the second book in a series is just as good, if not better, than the first. Yay! So, having just read Enchantment, I had to pick up Taken as soon as I could get my hands on it and I'm very glad that I did. Taken has action and romance in abundance and I couldn't put it down. The perfect way to spend an afternoon. Third book please.
I generally judge a YA novel on how well it was written and whether or not I'd let my son read it. (Which is a recent development; I've always enjoyed YA novels for myself, but I like the fact that he's now old enough - at almost 12 - to share them.) We talk about the books he's read (I really love this age), so mention of sex and swearing or some violence (within context) isn't reason for immediate dismissal. This book does not qualify, based on those standards, and it'll be deleted off my Kindle after I'm finished with it.
I have to say: I'm not sure how this book classifies as a YA novel. Aside from the fact that the sex scenes aren't as descriptive, it's certainly more obsessed with sex than many adult romance novels I've read. I don't think YA has an erotica category, and this book reads more like soft core porn meets teenage fantasy of playing house. It's not very appealing to an adult, and with the main focus being "omg let's have sex!" (with an otherwise rather weak plot line), I certainly wouldn't want my kid reading it.
It takes a lot to make me seem like a prude (no, seriously), but this book definitely got under my skin and I can safely say that I don't approve of this stuff being targeted towards teenagers.
Further, the main characters, Channie and Josh, are both real assholes and this is definitely not a stand-alone book. None of the background is being explained (social hierarchy, what makes and Empty different from a mage or more importantly why some people are mages and others aren't, wtf the war is about, who the hell these people are, why they get the names they get, etc), and the writing is just so immature I can barely stand it. Urgh. (However, I did read the entire thing, even though I had to put it down a dozen or so times.)
Thank you SOOOO MUCH Mrs. Charlotte Abel for writing this book!!! and for sending me an ARC copy (even though I bought a copy and re-read it too LOL)... If I could say in one sentence how I feel about this book, it's this.... Maghon says, "a book that had me happy, sad, frustrated, conflicted, emotional, and DEVASTATED all in a few hours time (as I DID NOT put it down for anything, or stop reading)... I WILL NOT compare you to any other author, as you are unique in your own, and you deserve to have your own category & be used as a comparison".... so ya know, my big mouth says THAT :)
One a serious note, let's talk about how AWESOME this book is... Channie is scared, and frustrated, and stuck... oh, and don't forget about EMPTY... You know, everyone must make choices, and the one's that Channie made we to save her life and the lives of the ones she loved, but it cost her dearly. She got the fairy tale Prince, but had every single other part of her life taken away. I don't know if you can call it a fairy tale in this instance, but at the same time, LOVE IS ENOUGH :) I believe that's one of my favorite quotes directly from the book... you should read it to hear who says it! There is no one who writes like Mrs. Abel, and words flow, like a summer river... beautifully and strong. Seriously, you know the book is good, when you finish it, look at the clock, and realize that hours have passed and you never looked away from the words. If these people were real, I would be driving them in my car and taking them everywhere with me :) that's how realistic her characters are... with that said, let's talk about the characters!
Channie started out being the main character, and in a way she still is, she just isn't alone anymore. She is growing wonderfully, and has matured so much, as being thrust into a whole new world (again) can be a handful. She has her petty, childish moments, but what 17 year old doesn't? I think it's pretty awesome that Channie's ridiculously HORRIBLE childhood prepared her for this story, but prepare her it did, but boy did it throw her boyfriend for a loop...
Josh, is totally unprepared for this life, and he doesn't want anything to do with "this war" as he feels it isn't his to fight, and he doesn't understand things, but he LEARNS so much in this book. and I know that he loves Channie, and to him that is all that matters. He will do ANYTHING to protect her. And by the end of the book, my heart is shattered for him... read it, really, cuz I'm not gunna tell you why I am in pieces of tears for this :)
I secretely have a crush on Yummy Hunter (that's my nick-name for him) and regardless of the situations that come up between him, Josh, and Channie, I am SO GLAD he is on this journey! As for her sister Abby, and the Trips, I LOVE THE TRIPS, I am glad they are still accounted for in this story, but I swear, my stomach fell out of my toes at the end of this story! I cannot say anything else about this, but OH MY GOD!!! WOW... *deer-in-the-headlight eyes... looks devastated* yep, I was very quiet and stunned at the end... ARE YOU GOING READ THIS BOOK YET?!?!?!
There aren't enough stars for this story, so *sigh* it gets a 5 PAWS from me... and cookies too :) LOL... and severe withdrawls already... I am ready for book 3, like a Klepto needs to steal something :) Wonderfully Amazing!!!
Charlotte Abel did it again. She blew me away with Taken! The sequel to Enchantment picks up right where she left off and continues to delight me. All of my favorite characters are back to thrill me again.
Mild Spoiler Alert if you have not read Enchantment: Book One.
Josh and Channie are back and more in love than ever. They are keeping busy turning their little shack into a home. Still in hiding from Dominance, they try to stay hidden at the secret training camp. There is still a price on Channies head and her own mother would sacrifice her to save her own skin. All because of a blood vengeance against Channie's father. Josh is in training to learn how to control his curses in order to protect Channie. He is reluctant to curse anything as it can be disastrous. Aunt Wisdom finally spoke up and said, "Josh, you're a married man. You need to prove you're man enough to protect your wife." Josh jerked his head towards Aunt Wisdom and glared at her, "What the hell is that supposed to mean?" Aunt Wisdom just stood there, arms folded across her chest, and stared at Josh. Hunter said, "I think it means you need to kill something." Josh's energy spiked again. "How about I start with you?"
I think there is still some jealousy there between Josh and Hunter. Training is intense and had me holding my breath. There is a lot of tension between the two men and I fear the curses cannot be controlled. The emotional upheaval between Channie and Josh is exciting, intense and funny all at once. Forbidden to be physically joined until Josh is fully recovered from his illness, they are really struggling to obey Aunt Wisdom's orders and keep their intimate encounters to kissing and snuggling. I loved this scene: Channie took his sweater in her hands, then leaned over and sniffed cautiously. It didn't just smell good. It smelled like lemons and sandalwood and Josh. She closed her eyes, pressed the cloud of wooly fabric against her face and drank in his scent. When she opened her eyes, Josh was staring at her. He looked like something out of a dream, bathed in moonlight, bare chest heaving with every breath. A stretching sensation deep inside her chest ached. This hunger was more than lust. It was a physical need as real as the urge to breath. Charlotte's writing allows, no, makes you feel the aching longing between these young lovers. You feel the intense, physical yearning between them. Taken really takes off. There are plenty of adrenaline pumping action scenes and lots of new characters laced through the story, adding depth while not slowing down the the reading. There are a lot of secrets and Channie's family is still a mess. The "trips" are getting older and their antics made me laugh out loud. I like the new power names that are introduced and how they compliment the new characters. The ending is heart-wrenching but encouraging. You will find you have no choice - you will have to read the third and final book in the series. It will be available September 2012.
A huge Thank You to Charlotte Abel for this wonderful sequel.
this is freaking OH MY GOSH!! I'm all hysterical here! How can Charlotte Abel ended Taken like that! this is so not happening! where's the damn third book?! I won't have a peace of mind until I read the sequel! *deep breath* okay, I'm really trying to stay calm here. So, finishing Taken really blows my mind! I mean, WHAT THE HELL?! my heart was broken after what happened to Channie and Josh at the end. that really stung. but anyway, I'm so much loving this book inspite of the heartbreaking ending. honestly I can't wait to read the next book so I can have the Happily Ever After that I wanted for the characters. so, for now I can't do anything but to anxiously wait!! a well deserved five stars for Taken! :D
I waited months for this book to be ready and I couldn't get my hands on it fast enough. Everything that I love about Charlotte Abel's writing was back but even more intense than in Enchantment. I adore the characters and the drama is smart and funny. The cliffhanger at the end is killing me. I must know what happens next! ;-) Can't wait for the 3rd book to be released. Write quickly Charlotte!!!!
Oh, and I just saw that there is a contest to win a date with Hunter in the next book. Since he's my new book boyfriend, I'm crossing my fingers!!! ;-)
The ending of Taken is just ...O.M.G... I don't even have the right words for it. To me Taken was better than Enchantment, especially the second half of the book! I love this serie, but there has got to be a next book in this serie. But when?? when?? This end is killing me ;) Please write the third book as soon as possible...please :P
Channie and Josh's misadventures continue in this somewhat darker, but still charming, sequel to "Enchantment." As soon as I started the book, I felt as if I were right there with them. The chase scene between Josh and Rider made my heart pound. Hunter made me laugh out loud. Channie's mother made me furious. The final scene made me cry and left me gasping. I need the third book, now!
Oh my gosh I can't wait for the third book to come out. This book was awesome. I feel so bad for Channie having to deal with her parents and yet I am so excited for her and Josh. These books are just full of surprises. I couldn't put them down once I started reading them. If you like magic you will love this series.
I really liked Enchantment, but I inhaled Taken. I could not put it down. I think the series really hit its stride with this book. Channie and Josh are one couple you just can't help but root for. My only complaint is the wait for the third book!
This series gets better with each book. I love how you can feel the depth and devotion between Channie and Josh in the way the story is written. It was a real page turner with lots more action than the first book. I am anxiously waiting for the next book
Better than I thought it would be. Brief summary: Josh and Channie are hiding out in Arkansas when trackers find them, and they have to fight for their lives and flee. They return to Colorado and their families, but they must hide the fact that Josh is now a Mage. Things at Channie's house have changed. Her sister has returned with the father of her children, and the Book of the Dead has driven her mother crazy. Josh and Channie continue their relationship secretly with the help of Josh's cousin, kassie, and Channie's friend, Hunter. Trackers and the Vajkyaviks catch up to Channie's family and they are forced to flee again. Josh and Channie steal the book from Channie's mother, trying to find clues about how Josh can end the Mage war. Unfortunately, Channie's mom wants Channie's heart as a blood sacrifice to the book, and she's willing to kill anyone who gets in her way. In the end, not everyone is left alive, and Channie and Josh now have a new obstacle on their path to true love.
Review: This book was packed with action in the beginning and in the end. The middle dragged a little. I enjoyed the changing point of views between the chapters. Josh uses his Mage powers in some really cool ways and Channie's family was truly an awesome display of dysfunction. Hunter was great comic relief and just hysterical as he acclimates from rural Appalachia to the modern world. I alternately liked and didn't like the main characters' relationship. They had mature moments displaying their affection and commitment to one another, while at other times they were immature, idiots who hadn't really learned how to communicate. I guess i have to remember that they are teenagers who just happen to be married and living through some extreme circumstances. The ending was a mind-blowing cliff hanger . There was a lot of violence and mature content in this book. I'm hooked for book 3. :)

"Taken", is the second book of the "Channie" series and what an awesome continuation of the series. I stayed up all night last night as I could not put this book down! Josh and Channie continue on their road to being married and have many struggles along the way. This book takes them through many hard times but through it all they remain strong in their love for each other. Most of the people from the last book revisit in this one and it was nice to get to see Abby (Channie's sister)as well as become introduced to the father of the Trips. (The triplets) Many things take place in this installment and also a few betrayals. The ending is explosive and left me on the edge of my seat and wanting to get a hold of the author and beg for book #3 right away! It is terrible that I have to wait and I just hope that the next installment comes out very soon! I adore this series, and I am now a loyal follower to Charlotte Abel. I have tried to figure out what exactly it is that has made me love this series so much. All I can say is that the characters that Charlotte has created are so real, and they are the type of people that you would want as your friends..The love that Channie and Josh share is just so strong, loyal, and pure and I am rooting for them that they get their happily ever after. I become so fully absorbed into this world that I don't like to leave it..For a YA book that is an extraordinary find for me, there are few books in this genre that have fully engaged me like this. It is going on my keeper shelf for sure!! Just please hurry and write #3!!! I will be waiting "impatiently" for it to come out! This book was thankfully given to me by the author in exchange for an honest review!
In the second installment of Channie's story, we pick up right where we left off with a married Josh and Channie hiding out in the Ozark mountains. If you at all felt even the slightest bit bored or aggravated with Channie in the first book...you won't feel that way with Taken, I can promise you that.
Channie has grown up quite a bit in Taken. Josh still struggles between what he knows to be right and what could potentially save his and Channie's lives. Hunter is still a wee bit annoying, but I feel he redeemed himself quite a bit in this book. Aunt Wisdom I could take or leave, though. And Channie's parents...don't even get me started! The ending was just whoa...cliffhanger!
Just like with Enchantment, I stayed up all night to finish Taken. Not because of a blogging deadline, but because I just HAD to finish it all at once. September is too far away for the third and final chapter in Channie's life!
I've been meaning to review this for a while:)I'll finish it up soon, but i just wanted to say what an amazing author Charlotte Abel is and how great this book is. I loved it, theres even a quote in the synopsis above that quotes me saying that I loved it and couldnt put it down! If you liked Enchantment, then you will love Taken. It is everything you loved about Enchantment and more, more action, more magic, more love. And when it ends, your going to wish the third book was already out. The characters have more depth, you see sides to them you didnt know that they had. Not all of them make it out of this book alive:(
I recommend that if you love the magical world that you go pick this up and read it:)
This installment was better than the first one - more eventful and exciting, but also more tragic and heartbreaking. Josh was a selfish jerk at first, but then he improved a lot. Channie was her old self with many foolish decisions and actions, especially in the end with her stupid idea of no-remember spell. I liked Channie's Daddy in this installment, and Hunter was hilarious! Who were truly adorable - triplets - awesome kids! The book is a page-turner, but too much tortures for protagonists to my taste. Can't wait the next book and hope for a happy ending!( hint - hint to the author :-)
