Does fasting have any real value? How can an empty stomach be of any advantage to you?
Fasting is an ancient practice that has enormous benefits but is often misunderstood. Shrouded in mystery, it has even been mistaken for dieting. In reality, fasting is so much more than depriving oneself of a few meals.
The Mystery of the Empty Stomach will help you discover, understand, appreciate, benefit from, and enjoy this ancient practice.

I was going to decide to do my very first personal fasting (other than our congregational fast in Victory Tacloban) and I'm really blessed that I got to read this book during my preparation for fasting days. This completely changed my perspective on fasting and gave me the desire to really fast in a deeper level. This book was full of wisdom and grace that it helped to have a true Christ-centered fast. I highly recommend reading this and I will definitely read it again for my next fast 😊
Fasting has been mistaken for dieting, especially in the popular culture. Taking it from its social contexts, many people think it’s about looking good and feeling fit, in the modern and busy lifestyle we carry. What we do not know is that fasting is an ancient practice with enormous mysteries that go way beyond depriving oneself of a few meals. Fasting requires faith. What a connection right? This short read is worth reading and re-reading every once in a while.
I read this during the prayer and fasting week and it gave me a different perspective about the reason why we ought to do fasting aside from depriving ourselves of food for a while.
A very quick read but with a ton of content. It's a very timely book right now since we are having our annual prayer and fasting (day 3 of 5 today) in our church. I have been doing this since 2013 but it is only now that I see fasting in a much deeper and lovely way. Indeed, it is not a sacrifice nor a religious duty, but about the matters of the heart and our relationship with Christ. I couldn't give justice to all the lessons this book gives, so it's better if you read it instead.
For anyone who has questions about why we Christians fast, this is a very good book to pick up. It also gives new and incredible insight about our faith. I am now happier and will look forward to fasting than ever before. Thank you, Ptr. Joey Bonifacio!
