A leading psychologist presents a common-sense, effective guide for working mothers that draws upon two decades of research to discusses the choices that women face, the stresses of a career and parenting and how to cope with them, the effects of children on a career, ways to keep relationships healthy, child care, and how to have a satisfying and fulfilling life on every level.
This might be a better book do women embarking on their careers. Although it was reaffirming to me to hear it's not crazy that I am completely overwhelmed much of the time trying to work full time and be a mom to 3. Also reaffirming that I am not alone in wondering if working is really worth it,should I be home with my kids instead, oh and what about my need for adult interaction. So for all educated women, whether planning to work or not, with kids or thinking about it - this could be quite beneficial. Whatever your choices you are not alone and we have all struggled with it. Find a company that supports you or create one. Support each other. We are all in this together!
This is a must read for any woman hoping to balance their personal lives and motherhood. This book contains checklists for those considering children and extremely helpful ideas for both working mothers and those who decide to stay home. It really helped me make decisions in how to design my life in a way that meets my family’s needs, my employer's expectations, and still leave a couple hours in the week for myself. Zappert's research of countless professional women has also helped me understand working mothers around me. I highly recommend this book to all women.
solid, relatively short book about how female Stanford Business School graduates have put together lives with jobs and children. Interesting format – it has exercises at the end of each chapter to try to help the reader apply the “lessons learned” to her own life. A nice balance of anecdotes, statistics from a study, and good organization by the author.
