An excellent reference not only for parents of children disabilities, but for any other friends or family members. It is a book I would recommend to parents, especially those whose children have been recently diagnosed.
Batshaw covers the most prevalent disabilities (Autism, Down Syndrome, Epilepsy, Spina Bifida, etc.) He explains the causes, symptoms, and treatments in easy to understand language. I actually found this text very helpful in my own research, especially when trying to decode the heavier medical terminology in Batshaw's other popular reference book, "Children with Disabilities."
The downside to this book is that your child probably has only one, or maybe two of these disabilities. It may not be worth purchasing this entire book for one chapter on your child's disability when you can purchase other books that go into much greater detail. However, I would definitely recommend trying to borrow a copy of the text or checking to see if a local library has it.
