I was disappointed in this book. I'm not quite sure what I expected, but this really wasn't it. I found most of the suggestions to be cliche and like something out of Parents magazine. I ended up not reading it for days at a time and then reading five or six of the chapters in a single day.
It really isn't worth picking up. I think I had been hoping for something that would be a little more fresh or fun, but this book fell short of that.
It probably isn't worth reading unless you are really struggling to get your footing or have never touched a magazine for parents.
There wasn't anything particularly bad about this book, but nothing particularly good, either. Martin provided advice that amounts to slow down and enjoy your kids, don't compare yourself or family to others, etc., but none of it struck me as particularly original. I might enjoy the book more in print format, because it would be nice to flip through from time to time. The book was well written, short, and I liked the quotes at the end of each chapter. It reminded me a little of a "Chicken Soup" book.
This was a quick, inspirational read and came at a good time for me. I was looking for something light and encouraging as a mom of young kids who got into a "funk." The book is full of short chapters offering nuggets of advice like: be grateful for what you have, don't hold your child to adult standards, give generously. She reminds mothers that although the everyday routine can seem mundane at times, these years are the fulfillment of yesterday's dreams. Don't let them pass by without enjoying them. Make them count.
Easily a new favorite to go back to again and again. This book highlights 30 ways to reset your thoughts as a mom to be more positive and productive, something I need a lot of as a longtime cynic. Some ideas I had pondered over before reading this book, but I love the author's perspective, anecdotes and suggestions. At the end of each one page section, she leaves you with an inspiring quote. Right up my alley. A quick positive read I will revisit soon. Loved it!!!
i have to admit that the cover + the title almost put me off from this one, but it was highly praised on a blog i frequently read. it was a collection of thoughts that i wish i'd read before having kids - practical, encouraging... all-around good "stuff", for lack of a better word. the author is genuine, realistic - everything you'd want from someone giving parenting advice. i purchased it for my ereader, i enjoyed it that much.
This is a short book that I read all in one sitting. It has a lot of wonderful tips for moms to relax and enjoy motherhood. I plan to go back through some chapters and write down some of these tips. I enjoyed that the chapters were short and each chapter focused on one thing. I especially liked the quotes at the end of each chapter. The last chapter was my favorite. Imagine being in a nursing home and reflecting back on your life. "Your chaotic present is someone else's nostalgic past".
Good book, gives great tips on ways to change your thinking when stress and negativity arises. How to relax when everyday mom chores pile up and just make memories. Love the quotes at the end of every chapter too.
I liked this one. Nothing was groundbreaking or shocking, but it all made sense. I highlighted quite a bit and I'm glad I have it around to skim through when I need it. Also, while she mentions God, she doesn't beat you over the head with it. I appreciate that!
Thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. The chapters are short which are perfect for busy moms. Each chapter made you think and gave a new perspective on motherhood. I highly recommend this book for busy moms who are struggling with motherhood and parenting.
Loved the layout and the quotes at the end of each section. I've read most of the information before but it is always nice to hear it again because as moms we often forget.
