Amazing Nearness: Meditations on the Eucharist

Rate this book
A beautiful, personal, priestly reflection on the importance of Eucharistic adoration in Catholic life. Father Dajczer wants you to discover the joy and profound gift that comes when we truly encounter Jesus in the Eucharist.

“This book is an exceptional commentary on Pope Benedict XVI’s encyclical, Deus Caritas Est. It is in the Eucharist that we experience the affinity, communion, and mutual love that can transform us into This One who has first loved us.”  —from the Foreword by Archbishop Joseph Michalik, Metropolitan of Praemislia and Chairman of the Polish Conference of Bishops

A commentary on Pope Benedict’s encyclical God is Love: Deus Caritas Est, this is one of the most beautiful elaborations of that magnificent document I have ever read. It is also timely during this lead-up to the first National Eucharistic Congress in 83 years, at least according to our archdiocese. I don’t go to such ‘Big Events’ anymore like I used to when I was young and still looking for God outside myself, but I do recognize their historical significance. Movements such as that, guided by the Holy Spirit and attended by those who are led there by the Holy Spirit can change lives and even countries for the better. However, the Holy Spirit still changes hearts one at a time and it is not necessary to attend a ‘Big Event’ to be changed in a BIG WAY and drawn in Love to His Amazing Nearness as Father Tadeusz Dajczer writes about in this book.

My first read uncovered a number of insights which were highlighted. This one revealed more. Unfortunately, I don’t have time to write the review now that I want to, but then I plan to come back to it in a couple of months and spend even more time with it before the Blessed Sacrament, so this short introduction will suffice to recommend it to those looking for an EXCELLENT non-technical book for Eucharistic Adoration. This is the book you want which will help you begin/develop/have with Jesus, either before Him at church or even in the privacy of your own home.

I know I read this book many years ago, probably around 2013/14 timeframe. Fr. Dajczer also wrote The Mystery of Faith: Meditations on the Eucharist which was life-changing for me in terms of helping me understand the theological virtue of ‘Faith’ which is why I bought this book.

This book has a special place in my heart. I read it during the Lenten season every time that I visited the Blessed Sacrament, and every section seemed to line up perfectly with the situations I faced in my own life. For me, this was a book of healing that I never knew I needed. The words are incredibly and beautifully pieced together to create a feeling like no other when in front of the Blessed Sacrament. Praise God. This was beautiful.

Great book for a silent retreat - whether it's 5min on a busy day or an extended prayer periods. Best read in the company of our Eucharistic Lord.
